Ommegang Game of Thrones - Seven Kingdoms

Ommegang Game of Thrones - Seven Kingdoms

Seven Hells! Seven Kingdoms Hoppy Wheat Ale, the newest beer in the Game of Thrones series from HBO Global Licensing and Brewery Ommegang, is slated to debut this spring ahead of the premiere of season six of HBO’s critically-acclaimed and Emmy award-winning show. The brew will be available all throughout the realm – the United States that is – both on draft and in large-format 750ml bottles.

Seven Kingdoms is a marriage of a traditional Belgian-style wheat and a hop-forward American ale – but unlike so many of the marriages on the show, the resulting hoppy wheat is pleasant, playful and inspired. At 6.9% ABV, it possesses a nuanced complexity that pairs nicely with the hop-forward characteristics that make it surprisingly refreshing.

“We love bringing as much inspiration, thoughtfulness and creativity to the Game of Thrones beers as we can,” said Mike McManus, Innovation Manger at Brewery Ommegang. “This last season, the imaginativeness of the show was pretty astounding so we aimed for a beer that could hope to match that. A fusion of two wonderful styles was an idea that really excited our team.”

“With Seven Kingdoms, Ommegang has crafted another excellent brew which we know our fans will love,” said Josh Goodstadt, Vice President of Global Licensing at HBO. “The world of Westeros is varied and complex and this varietal embodies those characteristics while offering a new and unique taste to beer drinkers.”

Seven Kingdoms pours a hazy pale yellow with a thick cap of pure white foam. The aroma is floral, citrusy with a touch of passion fruit and a slightly herbal hop aroma underpinned with yeast notes of banana, ripe fruit, and spicy phenols. The taste is a full, round hop flavor with tart orange and lemon with a substantial wheat maltiness and the finish has slightly lingering hop notes without being harshly bitter. The mouthfeel is smooth and silken owing to the wheat and oats.

The new brew is hopped with Bravo, Centennial, Citra, Cascade, and Columbus, and brewed with pilsner, white and red wheat, oats, and a touch of sugar to lighten the body. Ommegang’s unique house yeast is used in both primary fermentation and bottling conditioning.

3.9 Corked bottle, I am a sucker for this series. Hazy yellow gold, large white head with good retention. Aroma is wheaty, faint Belgian yeast spiciness, and a lemon lime hoppy note. Flavor matches, and is a very nice meld of wheat, yeast, and hops. Comes off a bit saison-like for a lack of a better way of describing it. Very surprised at how they got lemon and lime notes out of these hops and not as much as the typical "American" hop notes you typically get. Nice stuff.
3.8 Bottle. Poured hazy amber color with an average to large frothy white head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy wheat, citrus and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spice sweet flavor with a medium spice sweet finish of moderate to long duration. I would recommend this to a friend.
3.6 750 ml bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale wheat malts, floral and herbal hops, moderate bitterness especially for the style, citrus character, yeast, mild spicy character, lingering floral soapy character.

4.0 750 ml bottle from LCBO, served quite cool in a tulip glass. App.: Cloudy bright yellow with a tight and fluffy white head. Aroma: Quite spicy and citrusy, resinous hops, peppery, light fruity esters, a little yeast/wet bread dough, a little floral honey, biscuit and kind of a bread crust thing. Palate: Medium body with full and somewhat aggressive carbonation. Flav.: Spicy with nice fruity esters, citrus peel, a little earthy, wet bread dough and yeast, biscuit maltiness, quite good; off-dry with fairly firm bitterness and a long, estery/fruity and somewhat spicy finish. Nice beer.

3.8 Pours hazy yellow with a frothy white head that laces the glass. Aroma is citrus fruits and wheat. It has a wheat, citrus and banana flavour with a mild bitter. Wasn’t sure about a beer based off a tv show, but I was pleasantly suprised.
3.6 Bottle from LCBO. Spicy and slightly fruity aroma. Piney taste, resin, citrus, spice, moderate bitter finish. Good.
3.7 Birthday bomber thanks to my lovely wife. Nose is lemon zest, wheat and white pepper. Sip adds grapefruit. Somewhat balanced but bitterness wins out. Honey/herbal finish.

3.8 Pours a cloudy gold and makes a thick white head. Lacing a bit down the glass. Aroma is of hops and biscuit. Complex taste of wheat and 4!different types of hops.
3.6 Stupid LCBO. Love, love, love the "regular" brews that Ommegang makes, though the G.O.T. line has left me...unimpressed. This pours a cloudy golden, a cloudy head. Hoppy nose of resin and flowers and yeast. The taste is heavy hops of resin, flower and a little bitterness, over a bed of sweet malt and a little yeast. Good, not stellar.
3.8 750ml cork and cage bottle from LCBO. Pours a huge foamy bubbly white head and has a hazy golden appearance with sediments clearly visible. Leaves some dirty lacing behind. Aromas are wheaty, some notes of yeast, citrus and floral hops, quite nice. Flavours are mostly wheaty, yeasty and citrusy. Also some hints of bananas, spices and oats. Some nice hoppy notes and little bitterness but nothing too overwhelming, very well balanced. Lively carbonation. Has a nice smooth and creamy mouthfeel, very silky. Good stuff!
4.1 750ml bottle from LCBO. 6.9% alc./vol. Pours an opaque gold colour with one finger of white head. Aromas of grapefruit, banana, citrus and some floral notes. Taste matches the aroma with some peppery notes and ends with IPA-like dry and hoppy finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
3.8 Hazy yellow pour, big white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, big lemon, citrus notes, lots of wheat, and lemon zest. Nice mouth feel, lively carb. Finish is again big on what a with a strong lemon flavour. Huge lemon zest, and lemon rind with a strong citrus pith bitterness. Nice stuff.
3.8 Draft pour. The beer is a hazed yellow with a white head of foam. Good retention. Aroma is herbal and perfumy. Lots of perfumy notes. Medium body and medium moderately carbonated. Mildly bitter and has nice esters. Pretty good.
4.2 Smell of hop, lemon, fragrance. Come in light yellow with thin white crown. Taste smooth, happy hop, slightly sour with lemon & citrus, somewhat bitter but good balanced. Somewhat slimy texture. Well rounded beer.
2.7 nice color subtle taste. love the bouquet and the finish. a nice light taste
3.7 Bomber. Thanks to KL. Fruity nose, with light Belgian yeastiness, some wheat, Pale blonde color. Light wheatiness, mild but persistent bitterness. Sweet fruit emerges in mid palate. Balances more or less in finish. Medium body. Pleasant. Maybe a touch too sweet, but good.
3.8 Bottle from Hegedorn’s. Nice noble-like hop nose, lemon, herbs, wheat. Lemony, crisp flavor, wheat comes through nicely and creamy. A bit too sweet, but otherwise well done.
3.5 Sugary wheat taste with lots of bright hops, but it is wheat forward. Good drinkability, though a bomber is forcing too much on us.
4.0 Keg at Sedona Charlottesville, 4/4/16. Hazy golden, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of pale malt, wheat, floral hops and lime. The taste is wheat, spice, lemon peel, lime. Medium bodied, well balanced, pleasant.
4.0 Extremely active carbonation in this golden brew capped with white foamy peaks. Aroma is full of juicy citrus, tropical notes, spice, yeast, and light soap. Medium bodied. The spice is much more evident in the flavor than aroma. Tropical fruits, citrus, candied notes, and light boozy heat. Finish is spicy and medium bitterness. Lightly dry. A very "fresh" tasting brew with a good mix of fruit and spice. Easily the best hoppy wheat ale I’ve had and on of the only ones done properly, IMO.

Medium body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Well balanced and easy drinking. Very nice.
