Ommegang Game of Thrones - Valar Dohaeris

Ommegang Game of Thrones - Valar Dohaeris

Valar Dohaeris is 9% ABV, brewed with pils, wheat and oats, flaked barley, and hopped with noble hops. It pours a beautiful copper-tinted hue with a full, fluffy white head. Sweet grain and honey are prevalent in the aroma. The flavor opens with a bright sweetness thanks to the Belgian candi sugar used in brewing. The finish is moderately dry and effervescent with just a hint of Belgian yeast character.

3.6 750ml bottle. Has floaties in it, so right off the bat makes me wonder how this could be top 50. Maybe a pinch oxidized...some green apple, but more honey. I guess it is the candi sugar, at least from the description, but I really get a honey malt tone. Some orange as well. Soft on the palate, drinkable. Good, but not really in the top tier.
3.5 Bottle at Craig and Lisa's. Pours a golden yellow with white head. Aromas of coriander, straw, honey. Tastes of straw and honey.
3.8 10/25/2016 -- from notes: 750ml bottle, from Dutch's. Split with Steph S. Hazy golden orange color. White head, leaving pretty great lace. Great orange peel, spice, zest in the nose. Mild belgian yeast, little breadiness. Touch of vanilla, cake-like breadiness. Moderate-plus sweet, light to moderate bitter, little alcohol heat. Medium to bigger body, mild dry. Good full mouthfeel, mildly creamy. Smooth carbonation. Great tripel. Nice balance. Good big flavor, yet nice dryness, not too sweet, easy to drink. Nice to enjoy with my sandwich
3.4 2018-01-07. Hazy amber body, moderate head. Aroma is earthy, notes of peas, hops, pale malt. Flavour is similar, earthy veg character over pale malt base, light yeast. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. I enjoyed it more than my notes would suggest, but it was mostly just okay. 7/3/6-7/3/13-14 Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.
3.7 [10001-20180106] 750mL bottle. Fragrant floral toasted sweet yeast aroma. Hazy, orange body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Boozy sweet toasted fruit grains flavour. Medium body. Good. 3.6 Pours a golden colour with light orange hues. Tiny sediments through it. Warm cap, frothy, long lasting with some foamy lace. The nose is very close to most Belgian Tripels. Fruity, bready but overall quite yeasty. Hints of grains and grassy hops do come out eventually to show the American side. The taste is pretty reminiscent of the style and very light all-around. As in, quite drinkable for 9% ABV. Apples notes, light honey, blonde ale cereal, hints of spices. Well done. Just expecting more sweetness from the Belgian Ale yeast like the north American version. I could not tell this is not from Belgian.
3.6 750 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a cloudy golden colour with good-sized white head. Aroma is apple/pear, tropical fruit, bread and light spice. Flavour has lots of fruitiness with apple, pear, pineapple and banana, as well as bread, candi sugar and light spiciness. Subtle booziness. Nice one.
3.6 It pours murky gold with brownish tinges; the head is off-white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: toffee, orange-zest, citrus marmalade, and yeast. The taste is lightly sweet that finishes very dry. The palate is medium bodied, with medium carbonation - the finish is medium. Overall, it's quite jammy - nice.
3.5 Bottle opened for premier of season 7. looks and smells like a triple. Taste opens and improves as it warms a little. Hints of heather. Decent.
3.8 (Bottle) hazy, bright yellow colour with a tall white head; aroma of jam, honey; balanced flavour, starts sweetish then turns into a long, light bitter finish
3.8 Bottle thanks to my Mom I think. I'd held onto this thinking that I'd rated it and not loving triples. Turns out this is a great triple and that I have not had it. Miracle. Pours a clear orange color with a medium white head. Fresh vibrant oranges, sweetness, toast, very smooth. Yeasty, light dough. Nice.
3.6 Bottle from the lcbo. Slightly hazy yellow pour, with a huge white head. Very yeasty, and fruit Aroma. Lots of pineapple and tropical fruit. Slightly boozy, sharp cereals. Finish is medium bitter, sweet, with light candi sugar notes.
3.7 Pours foggy dark toffee gold with a small white wisp. Aroma is sweet candi sugar, earthy malt and light hopping. Taste is much the same, a little yeasty in the finish.
3.2 Having Game Of Thrones on the beer didn't sell it for me, just the style of beer did. I've only watched season one of the show years ago so the name reference on the bottle goes over my head. Anyways. Pours a really nice golden colour with very ample off-white head. Great aroma, yeast, malts and sweet stewed fruits. The palate is thick with a fine alcoholic finish that isn't too nasty or deterring. Decent.
3.8 750 ml bottle purchated at the Rideau/King Edward LCBO in Ottawa on October 7, 2017. Hazy copper orange, big head. Sweet spicy fruit aroma, notes of zesty peach. Fruity alcohol taste, very spicy, dry yeast finish. Very nice, it have to live up to that show!
4.1 Bottle from LCBO. Pours an page deep golden colour with two finger of lasting head. Flowery aroma with notes of bananas and a hint of citrus. Taste matches the aroma with some herbal notes and spicy finish. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.
4.3 I found this one at LCBO last week and wanted to try it with my brother who is a big fan of the show. I know nothing about it, but I can tell you that the beer is quite good. Had it a supper after a long day building a new deck with my brother and a good friend. Perfect setting for a good beer. No disappointment.
3.9 750ml bottle with cork and cage from LCBO. Pours an insane amount of frothy off-white head that sticks around for quite awhile. Has a hazy golden appearance. Aromas of Belgian yeast, bready malts, herbs and floral hops, a little bit perfumy. Flavours are very fruity, lots of Belgian yeast notes, bready and sweet malts. Full bodied, great retention. Somewhat excessive carbonation. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Very good!
4.0 750 ml bottle. Cloudy orange colour, dense white head, nice lacing. Sweetish malty and fruity aroma with notes of yeast and spices. The taste is sweetish malty, with honey and apricots, and a warm, spicy hoppy finish. Very tasty.
4.1 Bottled. Medium brown orange body, big white head. The aroma has peach, strawberry. The taste is chocolate, with a smooth cognac finish.
3.8 750 ml. bottle. Pours golden orange with a nice white head. Aroma of fruit, yeast, and grain. Taste is stone fruit, yeast, grain, malt, some honey, and a bit of spice. I enjoyed this one.
4.4 A very good Tripel. Omega get certainly understands Belgian beers. Good fruity notes with a dry hoppy finish. Couldn't ask for much more

2.6 Golden, thick head. A lot of plasticy phenols on the nose. On the palate it’s kind of thin and plasticy, with a touch of alcohol in the finish. Really not a great tripel.
3.8 On tap at Bailey’s Taproom, pours a hazy golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out a nice Belgian yeast character, with livid candied sugar and dough. Flavour is along the same lines, with candied sugar and Belgian yeast, imparting a pleasant estery character. Well-done American-made Belgian beer.
4.1 Bottle. Golden body with a large, frothy, white head. Aroma of toasted grain, floral hops, musty basement, apricot. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. A straightforward tripel and that’s good. It has none of the overwhelming clove spice, banana and annoying sweetness of many American tripels. Plenty of depth and Belgian character. Taste of honey, light lemon, floral hops, light mustiness. Delicious.
3.8 I drink this beer with a lasagna and spicy food, not sure that I would pair it with spicy food thanks bye
3.1 750ml bottle. Clear, deep orangey, copper-ish golden colour with average to huge, thick, fluffy, fairly lasting and lacing, off-white head. Fruity hoppy and sweet-ish malty aroma, notes of apricot. Taste is moderately sweet malty with minimally sugary, bready and biscuity touch, hints of honey, fruity, yeasty notes of apricot find further fruity hop support. New World hop addendum accounts for facility and drinkability due to an avoidance of tackiness.

4.2 DATE: May 7, 2017.... OCCASION: Game night is over, but Game of Thrones-themed beer never fails to deliver... GLASSWARE: Duvel tulip snifter.... pours a medium amber body that floats some serious driftwood as sediment... the head is white as the North, just as resilient and foamy with appropriate lacing.... a swirling centrifuge twists violently in its midst... lacing is appreciable and organized... first aroma kicks of banana, bubblegum. candied apple, honey, and toasted oats--quite a nostril full... the impact of its sip is full on at the teeth, with an awakening of the throat as well... medium-bodied, but no fooling its 9% ABV--and no apologies, considering its namesake... the wheat is detectable, making for a deliciously soft balance between the oats and hops (which suggest Saaz or Tettnanger) that evokes a breezy, flowery setting--perfect for a spring night such as this... goodness, there is something strange at work in this one, like Arya Stark’s time in the House of White and Black.... should this be celebrated as a tremendous one-off with distinctive character, or written off as simply another fine Ommegang Belgian that will sneak up and hammer my consciousness once I finish it? God bless Ommegang for their tireless work to bring savory Belgian fare with subtle variations that make each release a celebration in its own right.... short lived but highly recommended....
