3.8Classic oatmeal stout. Dark chocolate with the best of Samuel smith essence
3.812 oz. bottle. Pours a medium well retained, light beige head, with slight lacing, over a clear dark brown (SRM 35) body......nose is roasted malts, with coffee, chocolate, mild hop spice, balance to the malts.....taste is heavy roasted malts, with cocoa, chocolate, coffee notes, mild caramel tones, dry throughout, light oat tones, finishing with mild hop bitterness, balance to the malts.......mouth feel, medium creamy body, no alcohol, moderate carbonation. A lovely, easy drinking, cold weather beer, with the appropriate malt dominance. BJCP 9/3/16/5/8
3.512 oz. bottle at home. Pours dark brown in color with a medium sized khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, chocolate, a splash of vanilla cream, a hint of plums, light yeast, decent.
3.3Draught pour- pours pitch black with minimal head but nice latticing. Subtle roasted malts on the nose. Dark roasted malt, ashy on the tongue not much depth. Pretty level in taste throughout an ok stout.
3.712oz bottle from Shenandoah Hops. Dark chocolate aromas, faint roast. Black with a mostly fading beige head. Lightly sweet, chocolatey, mild roast. Medium-full bodied, very smooth.
3.6On tap at 40 Brews. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of roasted malts, dark fruits, coffee and chocolate. The taste was similar to the aroma with more roasted malts, dark fruits, coffee, chocolate and a nice smooth bitter aftertaste. Good stuff.
3.7Bottle. Coffee, raisin, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Black with large brown head. Mildly sweet raisin, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter ash/hay flavor. Good body - mild carbonation. Pretty good.
3.7It is a lovely pour, soft mouthfeel, w/ a kind of a bland flavor. It’s easily drinkable w/ that great feel but a little more flavor could make this a masterpiece!
4.2Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Pooler, GA. The appearance is pitch black with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is coffee, chocolate and malt with spices. The taste is similar to the nose. An excellent oatmeal stout.
3.0Very little roast in aroma and flavor. Has the appearance and body of an oatmeal stout---but mostly just Belgium yeast.
2.5Meh. Not too good. Well made but I’m not a fan of stouts with Belgian flavors. Aroma was pretty weak. Roasty malt with notes of coffee. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thin off white film for a head. Taste was better than the aroma but not really appealing. A battle between bitter roastiness and sweet bubblegum. Very thin with a light watery finish. Decent carbonation.
3.612 ounce bottle, stamp on bottle says best by 9/2017. Served in a Spiegelau stout glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch and a half tan head that stayed around for a while. There’s a decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like oats, dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, dark bread and roasted malt. For the most part I think the taste is the same as the aroma, but there’s also some coffee and cream flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s smooth and easy to drink with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was an enjoyable brew, certainly worth a try! $3.49 for a single bottle.
3.4Bottle from a lazy dog,
Deep brown bordering on black with a tightly bubbled khaki head that persists, Earthy roasty, spicy on the nose with bits of chocolate and dark fruit. Taste is somewhere between oatmeal stout and Belgian Dubbel. Decent enough drinker, but not exactly working for me.
3.7Pours dark and inky, opaque in the glass, with a medium khaki head, excellent
retention. Aromas of oatmeal, chocolate, caramel, toast, and a hint of coffee grounds. Medium body, smooth, velvety carbonation. Lightly sweet, with a mild dark chocolate bitter finish. Harmonious and delightful.
3.012 ounce single from Totalwine, home of the laziest workers in retail .. Dark brown .. Awesome foam.. . Gritty charcoal, burnt oats, black bark .. Mouth is light, quick flashy finish .. . . I can’t swim and other lies I’ve told you..
3.3Sampled on draft at Double Wide Grill in Irwin this beer poured a black color with a small foamy tan head that faded quickly and left minimal lacing. The aroma was toasty and roasty malts and a bit of wood. The flavor was roasty and toasty malts with black licorice and a bit of dark fruit. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.
3.5Bottle. Bros, where’s the Oxford comma!? Nose sweet and inky, pour dark brown that never comes close to pitch, head very dense and rocky light brown. Taste medium bitter, lightly sweet, full of really excellent, fresh dark roast, lots of flitting ash, scorch, grain, coffee, toast -- the roast is layered and easily the best thing here. Touch airy but not too much, fruity esters a bit higher than I’d like, even to the point of clashing, and splash of cream with a squirt of lemon. Smooth medium body very repeatable, a little filling, but then that lovely roast enters and stays a while in the aftertaste. Just a regular stout, really, but well made. [2017.03.04: 3.5]
3.5Pours a dark brown color with khaki colored head. Cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, and some bread on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with cocoa and roast. Very smooth.
3.512oz bottle. Foamy beige head on top of a black-brown body. Solid, classical, good. Medium to full bodied. Not cloyingly sweet or gimmicky, which is sort of radical these days. Very drinkable, well executed, but middle of the road still.
4.2Pours a dark brown color with khaki colored head. Raw cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, and some bread on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium to full bodied. Finishes with cocoa and roast. Smooth.
3.6Deep brown color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing. Aroma of malt, chocolate and yeast. Light to medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, coffee and fruity yeast. The finish is charred malt and yeast. Decent overall.
3.6Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of Belgian yeast. Medium to full body. Flavors on the palate are a blend of spicy yeast phenolics, roasted malt, a hint of sweetness. Interesting stout with a Belgian twist.
3.7Bottle poured in Ommegang glass. Pours a deep brown complexion with thick head and minimal glass lacing. Yeasty, bready aroma with some dried fruit and pepper. The flavor is roasted malt, black coffee, bittersweet chocolate and pepper. Enough flavor to enjoy more than one. Smooth oatmeal palate.
3.8Bottle. Pours a deep black with a medium sized tan head. Roasty with some nice yeast notes. Medium bodied, soft plum character, earthy, a nice herbal touch from the yeast. Slow roast into the finish. Lovely indeed.
3.612 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Poured typical stout dark brown, almost black with a 2 finger bubbly mocha head. Good retention and lacing. Nose yields aromas of dark pitted fruits, chocolate covered cherries, roast and oatmeal cookies. Light sweetness with all of the above represented in the flavor. Medium bodied and silky smooth on the tongue.
3.9Roasty aroma with a bit of truffle in the body and a bit of peppercorn for the finish.
3.4bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Strong aroma of malt and chocolate. Nearly opaque brown-black color, frothy brown head that stays at one-finger,bands of lace. Taste is toasted malt, medium fizz, and bitter chocolate. Thick, creamy texture that turns a little chalky in the finish. Not particularly complex. Good, not great.
3.2Roasted, coffee notes are also pungent and sweetly bitter. Simple and straightforward and perhaps not as rich as some oatmeal stouts.
3.4An interesting name for a beer. Good Stout, but definitely not great. Needs a better flavor and more alcohol!
3.2Aroma:Not much aroma.
Appearance:Dark like a stout should be deep brown.
Taste:Smooth, not overwhelming.
Palate:No afterbite.
Overall:Nice stout, Above average, would drink again.
