3.5Aroma lacks a forward alcohol presence which is nice. Great foamy pour that took forever to dissipate. Chocolate notes that aren't too overbearing in the taste.

Pours deep mahogany into a Trappist glass. Mocha head with good retention recedes leaving scant sheets. Dark caramel, roasted nuts and sweet malt aromas. Crisp with dark chocolate covered caramel and pit fruit upfront turning to bitter espresso in the lasting raisin finish.
3.5750ml. Like 15 bucks or something..errr...wut? Pretty solid Belgian Dark Ale. Big fruity notes, quite complex. Big and sugary, grounded with a deep Black Malt tone, but aggressive yeast tones and alcohol. Not unlike classic Trappist Ales, but maybe a little sugary and overbearing instead of sublime.
3.3Poured from bottle 1/28/16, fresh. Large tan head that lasts. Dark in color. Smooth flavor with less aroma then I was expecting. Tasty though
3.5750 cc from Capone’s. Pours hazy dark blackisj with minimal tan head. Nose is blackberry, yeasty funk, florals. Tastes yeasty, with heavy notes of blackberry, vinous fruit, and florals.

750 cc from Capone’s. Pours turbid chestnut with 3-finger splotchy tan head that laces irregularly. Nose is funky rock sugary malt, with figgy fruit, oaty cacao, hops. Tastes semi-dry, malty, yeasty, with figgy fruit, spice, cacao, and a dry finish. Very complex.
4.1750 from Mile High. This is a great looking beer. It’s a very dark brown with an everlasting khaki head and dense lacing. Lots of fruity and spicy esters come through in the nose. Plums, dates, a dash of toffee, cola, earth, and baking spices. The palate is great. Ommegang knocks these beers out of the park. They just project craftsmanship. The yeast is the centerpiece in the flavor, giving layers of fruit and spice. It’s hoppy enough to let you know that it’s an American made beer, but not so hoppy it seems weird for the style. Notes of plums, baking chocolate, dark cherry, red wine, soil, and a dry finish make up this delicious beer. I love this beer, but it seems too similar in character, ingredients, and quality to Three Philosophers to warrant the $16.99 . The bottle actually wasn’t price-tagged, I just snatched it up on a whim.
3.4Deep plummy brown with a thin off white rocky head. Nice plum and date tones on the nose, something sweetly herbal and Belgian-musty. Dry flavor with Belgian dusty farmhouse tones, dry date, dry plum, slight booziness and a little clove. Too many fruity undertones without any sweetness to play it up.

At Big Beers, Belgians, & Barleywines Fest 2013. Black in color with a lasting foamy head. Mild aroma of dark earthy malts, currants, and a light, leafy hop presence. Flavor is fruity yet spicy with a combination of dark and light belgian fruit esters, like plum and pear, with spicy peppery yeast, and dark sweet maltiness. A little too light bodied--medium overall. But I really dug the flavor.
4.0Poured from 22 oz cork and cage bottle. Pours black with big creamy, foamy head. Aroma is cocoa, dark fruit, and spicy yeast. Creamy mouth feel. Dark fruit upfront, dried plums, dark cherries. Some chocolate in the middle and a earthy Belgium yeast in the finish.

Tap at Fire House in Eau Claire. Dark cola pour with a foamy white head. Yeast, banana, and dark fruit. Very good.
3.8Big bottle purchased at Total Wine & Spirits. Consumed with commonshawn and Double T’s. Basically dark brown with an off white head. Aroma is Belgian like with dark, slightly funky, fruit. Taste also has a distinct Belgian funk. Dark fruits (dates) play a big role. Definitely benefits from warming up with a stronger depth of flavor. Tartness. No sign of hops...malt is presiding over this effort. I’m slightly underwhelmed but it’s still above average. I foresee myself giving this another chance.
4.5Big bottle from total wine and spirits with commonmac. Poured into goblet. Cola color with full off white head. Nice Belgian nose full of dark fruit, alcohol, sugar, and yeast. Sweet, sugar, licorice, then some yeasty funk. Tastes terrific. Finish is clean and smooth. Soft and very pleasant body. I looked into the crystal ball and predicted I’d like this and it was true.
4.0Bottle at JB’s. Pours dark brown with a large creamy tan head. Aroma of dark fruits. Flavor is dark fruits, some dates and medium dark malt. Nice thick malty body with some alcohol.

On tap at Macgregor’s. Poured a dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is a bit fruity with some yeast. Also chocolate and some nuts. Taste is quite malty with lots of different flavors. Some nuts, raisins, and a touch of vanilla. Pretty sweet overall. Very nice.
4.0750 c&c from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours very dark brown with a huge, creamy tan head. Aroma of plummy dark fruits and treacle. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor is plummy dark fruits, maybe some dates, medium dark malt. It’s not particularly hoppy, and certainly not dry. Very tasty tho. Almost as tasty as a plummy quad. Seems to have some spicy notes after awhile. Gets a bit earthy as well.

750, c&c, from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Fred’s ever on top of new releases. New to me anyway. Pours dark brown/black with a creamy/foamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate with some dark fruit and herbs. Maybe anise. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate, cola, somewhat burnt malt, darker fruits, anise, yeast/spice - there’s a great lot of things in this. Finish starts with banana, ?, and goes on to be a spiced, herbed doppelbock kind of thing. Kudos to Moortgat for enabling Ommegang to make such great ales. Wonderful stuff.
4.2Cocoa, dark fruit, a touch of spiciness all are nicely integrated in the nose. Appearance is very dark, can’t tell if clear or hazy, I think clear, orange highlight. Very thick fluffy tan head. Great taste and palate. Very bright, prominent carbonation in the mouthfeel. Cola taste along with dark fruit. Creamy feel then hit by the carbonation, and a bit of grittiness and a dark sweet dark chocolate finish. Really enjoyable.

The star of my night. In a flute glass, dark, auburn shade, creamy looking head. Woody, smokey, spicy nose. In the palate is spice, cloves, apples. Creamy mouthfeel, a tiny bit of hops , dryness at the back. This stuff rocks.

3.7[Batch 1] Opaque black with a medium- sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, dark fruits, sherry and some burnt wood. Taste of roast, dark fruits, cocoa, light alcohol in the finish.
4.3{From notes}. Pours a dark, murky brown color with a tan head.
S: nicely balanced array of roasted grain, dark fruits, baked bread, vague spices and caramel.
T: Plenty of dark fruit mid-taste and in the aftertaste, with a kick of dark chocolate in the finish. A trace of light smoke.
M: superb -- full body and very creamy.
O: exceptionally enjoyable and better than expected, even from a premier American producer of Belgian style beers.
4.4There is a sweetness to this beer that I didn’t expect upon pouring it, as it pours very dark and smells like a wintry ale. It’s powerful but not overpowering, and is a great winter beer to drink.
3.6Art of Darkness Pours a dark red black with a tan head that nice lacing. Nose is dark fruits and caramelized malts. The taste is a bit dry with some figs, raisins, chocolate and some lingering Belgian yeast byproducts. The body is medium to thin, but with some texture. Finish is slightly sweet. Very nice Belgian Dark.
3.9From bottle into snifter. Black semi clear, tan head around edges. Huge molasses, dark fruit, anise, pepper. Sweet, light bitterness, oily body, some bitterness. Herbal bitterness, long anise, very good.
4.2From 750ml, corked, from a 3-pack bought at Costco around Dec (3+ months), poured into an Ommegang branded Belgian tulip glass
Aroma: Cherries, fruit, maltiness
Appearance: black, frothy tan head
Taste: Medium sweet, light bitter
Palate: Medium bodied, creamy texture, bitter/dry almost a dark chocolate bitter-like finish
Overall: Really surprised there’s no fruit or spices in this. The yeast must be incredible. Lots of cherries on initial aroma which fades a bit to more maltiness. Incredible body and nice Belgian dry finish with some dark chocolate overtones on the finish. Easy to drink, hard to find anything to complain about.
4.2Very nice roasted Caramelized malt aroma with banana nutty Belgian yeasty in there and maybe slight cocoa. Taste is a very smooth Belgian dubbel with a bit more body and maltiness than some others. Really smooth and very tasty. Slight sweet finish, but not sugary. Nice spiciness from the Belgian yeast.
