3.6 16 oz. Aroma is dark bread, maple syrup, toffee, vanilla, baby puke. Pours black with a thin collapsing tan head. Taste is moderately to highly sweet, approaching cloying, moderately bitter, with flavors of maple syrup, dark bread, earth, licorice. I dunno, some offnotes and it's kind of weird.
3.9 Tall can from LCBO. Pours fairly big frothy and bubbly brownish head and has a pitch black appearance. Thick dirty lacing remains. Lively carbonation. Aromas of coffee, maple sap, a bit woodsy. Flavours are sweet, chocolatey, cocoa, some brown sugary notes, molasses. The maple syrup is noticeable but too many other flavours for it to make a bigger impact. Full bodied mouthfeel, thick and slightly oily sensation on the palate.
3.8 Black appearance with a small light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, mild char, light chocolate and hints of maple syrup. Similar flavor, rich, dark and bittersweet with a full body and a warming finish. Good.
3.5 can that pours unclear dark brown with a small but very creamy medium beige cap offering good enough retention and lacing. strong pecan nut flavours, dark complex caramels, maple syrup sweetness - clearly not fermented if any at all; rum-like spiciness, other spices. moderately low carbonation, medium to full body - very oily and smooth; hot, sweet and artificial finish. fake flavours alert (impossible that this is only vanilla and real maple syrup - from a quebec/canadian ticker).
4.0 Can: Racked 2 months, 7 days ago...pours a viscous deep black with a MASSIVE mocha colored meringue cap that lasts....aromas are a delight with maple, vanilla, roasiness, dark fruit and some eathiness....Flavour is rich, sweet, like vanilla maple oat porridge with coffee, hop bittering rides in the background up front, then in the long wet finish becomes a more intense bittering....wow, what a substantial brew for sipping after clearing snow from the sidewalk or after skiing or snow shoeing...even though it hides its alcohol completely, I would not quaff this big boozy brew in the heat
4.2 Can from the LCBO. Very dark mahogany with a large dark brown head that fades slowly leaving tight lace. Nose is maple, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, roast. Flavour is medium- maple sweetness with an equivalent coffee and chocolate bitterness. Mouth is full and creamy with soft carbonation and a lingering light bitter finish. Not as boozy as 12.5 would indicate. Definitely leans to the sweet side, so best as a sipper. 9/4+/8/4/16
3.2 Pours dark black with thick heavy body texture that has sticky feel to it. Very syrupy. Taste of vanilla and maple is well balanced with roasted malts rounding the taste. Bit sweet at the end.
4.0 sweet additives and beer don't mix. but if anything could make it work...
3.9 Can from LCBO. Let me just say this is deliciously chocolatey and roasty, with a kind of burnt marshmallow nuance. The maple compliments all of that. This company makes some beers that are like S'mores by the campfire and this one is certainly really good in that way. Light smokiness, some hop dryness controlling the almost syrupy (but not quite) sweetness. Pours and looks and smells like a RIS. Serious fun. Sensuously sugary.
3.9 Can from LCBO. Maple syrup, vanilla, and roasted grains aroma. Sweet taste up front with maple notes, leading into bitter dark chocolate finish. Solid but I was hoping for more.
3.6 473ml can from the LCBO. Pours an opaque deep brown colour with a small head. Aromas of maple syrup and a hint of coffee. Taste matches the aroma with some sour notes. Full bodied with moderate carbonation. It's a nice desert beer but too sweet for me.
3.6 Brewed from Brunswick Bierworks in Toronto and canned at 11.5% ABV. Appearence: Dark with some faint haziness with a good sized head for a flavoured stout. Mouthfeel: Chunky and sweet Taste: Lots of maple beans, cocoa, vanilla extract, liquid caramel and sea salt Finish: Medium with sweet toffee and maple As the name goes, its pretty maple and vanilla dominated. If you like those things you'll love this beer. For me, its a bit unbalanced.
3.0 super dark, dense colouring, viscous, minimal head dark brown. intense maple syrup dark grade aroma, coffee, sweetness. very sweet, malty, sugary sweet, huge maple syrup with mild vanilla extract. not artificial but tastes like a maple syrup cake or confection from a store. not my kind of thing, kinda just pounding through it. massive 1d taste. people like this kind of thing?
3.9 16oz can. Poured a black color with a medium sized tan head. Maple syrup, dark fruits, chocolate, roasty with warming alcohol.
3.9 473ml can. Black with a foamy tan head. Flavors are roasted cereals, coffee, burnt caramel, vanilla and maple syrup with woodsy notes. Full body, soft to moderate carbonation, oily texture.
3.6 On tap at Craft Beer Market Toronto. Pours a very dark brown colour with large puffy light tan head. Aroma is big maple syrup with vanilla and mild roast. Flavour has lots of maple sugar plus a little vanilla and chocolate. Lively fine carbonation. Nice.
3.9 Can from the LCBO brewed in Toronto, with maple syrup and vanilla beans, at 11.5% ABV. Pitch black colour with a creamy mocha-coloured head, good retention and some decent spotted lacing. Maple syrup nose over heavy roasted malts. The taste has the maple sap tasting the whole way with the roasted malts, and chocolate notes. A tad liquorice, coffee, vanilla. Some nice hops in the finish to not linger as syrup on the tongue. Not too rich, so very well-brewed for the style. A nice winter warmer dessert.
3.9 Canned. Dark black body, massive beige head. The aroma has cocoa and brown sugar. The taste is strong and sit-ups without being alcoholic. Vanilla and maple syrup is strong here.
3.9 Taster during a Darkest Day event. Appearance: very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, sweet. Taste: along the same lines, a bit of maple syrup on the back. Overall: pretty good imperial stout.
3.6 maple syrup with some roast in it. thick is. fun dessert pour. st biet mkt esplanade.
3.6 Medium bodied. A little sweet. Maple is super faint. Lots of nuttiness and vanilla sweetness. Roasty malt on the finish.
4.1 Can from Cask & Flask in San Jose, CA. Aroma is black olives, tiramisu, dark chocolate, some licorice, chocolate ice cream, maybe some liqueur (almond or cherry). Taste is tangy and oily dark chocolate, smooths to some dry cocoa or instant coffee, some caramel / vanilla (presumably the maple) in between. Excellent aroma and mouthfeel, surprisingly not too cloying and well balanced.
3.7 Dark brown to black colored, small non lasting tan head. Dark malty, roast, chocolate, loads of maple, lactose, coffee, very sweet, medium bitterness, light dark fruit, moderate alcohol in the finish and warmth. Full bodied, soft carbonation, creamy. Bit too sweet.
4.3 Tried at Keans Head Nottingham. Thick black colour with a tan head. Aroma maple syrup and nutty. Big sweet taste. Full body.
4.0 From a 16 oz can into a stem glass. Aroma of dark malts, washroom. Pours black with brown head and lace. Medium carbonation and significant mouthfeel. Flavors of dark malts, dark chocolate, espresso notes, caramel. Overall rich, bold, flavorful and well balanced.
3.8 Inky viscous black pour with wisps of chestnut brown head. Earthy and rustic in the aroma with smokey roasts notes, wood, dark fruit skins. Nice woody/smokey thing going on in the flavor. Rich and dense with espresso roast and dark fruit skins. Body and character slowly become oppressive due to their weight and intensity.
4.2 A rich, silky imperial with subtle notes of sweet maple and bitter chocolate. Also a slight twang of fruit, maybe raspberry. A complex and impressive imperial stout.
3.7 From tall can. Pours a thick black with minimal head. Smell is deep roast. Taste is sweet, moderately bitter - dark roasted grain, some bitter hop and a maple note throughout.
3.9 Maple and roast. Caramel. Pours oily and thick. Pretty well balanced and nice. Mocha head. Bittersweet end. Tall can.
