Orange Blossom Pilsner Squared (OBP^2)

Orange Blossom Pilsner Squared (OBP^2)

When you make a pot of coffee, but only use half the water, you get some pretty rich coffee. That’s the approach we took with our latest offering. OBP Squared, with half the water, has 11% alcohol by volume - twice that of original OBP.

The result is a bold, distinct taste of its own. Made with twice as much real orange blossom honey, all-natural ingredients and no refined sugar, it really is the new king bee of beers.

2.4 Bottle from Lazy Dog. Pours a transparent amber with the most miniscule ring of off white head. Aroma is very faint, some basic malts/hops with some fruit. Taste is pretty bad, overly sweet with nothing to balance it. The sweetness masks the abv.
3.3 Poured this beer from a regular bottle into a mason jar glass to drink. The beer had a rich, deep amber-orange color with a good-sized foamy off white head with pretty good retention, cling and lacing. Its aroma had strong notes of honey, along with orange, and bits of wheat, grainy hops, and perhaps some caramel malt. The beer had a somewhat sweet orange and honey flavor, but mixed with a lighter grainy bitter effect as well. It had fairly average carbonation, and thickness, with a somewhat wet and watery body. Thank you for the beer, Dayton!
2.1 It pours and looks clear. It is actually a rather light orange in color. There is virtually no head and no lacing to speak of. The is a distinct smell honey with orange. It also has a sweet sugary smell to it. The first thing that hits the taste is alcohol, then flower with a hint of honey. The alcohol was overwhelming to the degree that it actually damaged the taste.
2.8 Cloudy yellow with a white head. Aroma is honey and a bit of citrus. Flavor is a bit cloyingly sweet on the honey side with a bit of orange juice flavor. A little thick and artificial tasting. Wife: 3.5
2.3 Bottle. Pours golden orange with a white head. Big sweet honey, booze, and coriander. Not horrible, but too big and syrupy boozy.
3.1 Very sweet. Drank from bottle so no appearance notes. Thicker mouthfeel. Would love to re-rate.
2.3 Bottle at the World Beer Festival - Columbia on 01/22/2011. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Sweet orange and dry pils malt aroma. Very sweet orange pils and corn flavor. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.
3.0 Bottle from Knightly Spirits, Kissimmee, Florida. This golden beer pours without any head. It has very strong, rich honey, orange and grape? flavours with caramel and vanilla on the warming alcoholic finish.
3.0 What can you say that the description doesn?t. They took the original and concentrated it to make a double version. Sweet, floral, grainy, crisp, with an added booze punch you don?t notice until you have had a couple.
2.9 12oz bottle. Small white head atop crystal clear light amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, orange, light hay. Taste is sweet, honey, light orange, faint straw. Medium-full body, some stickiness, low carbonation.
2.3 Meh. Weak aroma. Sweet initial flavor with a sour finish. Pours an amber color with no head. Won't drink it again.
2.9 Bottle thanks to Santa! Pours a clear orange with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a strong earthy honey and sweet grains with a bit of booze. Flavor is similar with sweet grains and strong honey notes backed by some warming alcohol.
4.3 Surprised by the low ratings on ratebeer of this one. I think it's beautiful. Honey in color. Strong honey aroma, and even stronger honey flavor. Not carbonated much at all, and is quite thick. Almost reminds me of a honey liquor -- the number one note here is honey early, often, and ever present. But it's a fresh honey, sweet but not overly so, and masks its ABV of 11 completely. If this were how meads tasted, I would book a time machine for the Middle Ages. Highly recommended!
3.0 Clear deep golden orange pour with a thin ring of white head and a little fizzy ..... aroma of honey, orange and caramel malts ..... taste is malty with a little warming booze, but it doesn’t have that boozy dry flavor ... honey, caramel malts, and some orange ..... mouthfeel is thick, flat and syrupy ... finishes very dry ..... interesting brew
3.1 Sweet taste of honey! Sticky, bready, malty, I wonder if they used honey malt?
3.0 12 oz bottle...Clear orangey liquid with little to no head. Big caramel and orange flavors and reminiscent of a mead or barley wine. Quite cloying on the finish, but good none-the-less.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Dark copper with a small, tan, creamy head. Smells like orange marmalade, honey, and caramel. This beer is cloyingly sweet. Heavy body, very thick and sticky. Overall, this is pleasantly flavorful beer, but it is overly sweet and sticky. There are worse things in a beer, though.
4.1 Sweet malty aromas. Nice! Big caramel and orange flavors. Now this is a pilsner I can get behind. Overall the best pilsner I have ever had.
2.4 Jesus Christ. This is squarely in dessert-beer territory, if not beyond (and not in a good way). Huge and sugary with slightly floral orange notes. The only thing that sets this apart from bottom-shelf artificially-flavored malt beverages is that the sweetness and the fruit are well-balanced and taste perfectly natural. I’ll give Thomas Creek props for that, because brewing something like this without making it taste like a Freeze-Pop or a Capri Sun can be tough. Certainly not a "drain pour", but I had to put it back in the fridge for later in the evening - was definitely not ready for it.
3.8 With a flowery sweet aroma and a great light brown and a perfect fomy head. The nice simple flavor lingers and leaves you coming back for more. Great beer!
2.4 Sweet, floral honey aroma, as expected - vanilla notes. Bad label, dark orange beer, not much head. Sticky, harsh, malt liquor flavors, tangy, fairly dry, all things considered. Slippery mouthfeel, though well carbonated. A burning swig to it. Unfortunately, this reminded me of former Soviet bloc strong lagers. ABC, Bull Run.
3.4 Pretty sweet and syrupy on the tongue, with very little of the alcohol you’d expect at 11%. Still a little sugary for me, but an improvement over the regular OBP for sure.
3.0 bottle. amber with minimal head. very sweet with lots of honey. alcohol hidden fairly well. a tad syrupy. somewhat mead-like.
3.5 Knightly Spirits single that I bought on a personal dare because this seemed to have malt liquor written all over it. But holy crap, it was good. Sweet honey and malt with zero hint of the ABV. I did drink it pretty cold but I enjoyed it.
3.8 Pouts a beautiful clear dark gold; mead aroma also smells like Midas touch; syrupy mouthfeel sweet; hides alcohol exceptionally well; very nice.
3.6 Bottle. Sweet floral honey and light malty aroma. Clear copper with a small tan head. Intensely sweet floral honey flavor with a solid malty backbone. Alcohol is amazingly well hidden. This one goes down easily and could really sneak up on you.
3.4 Tap at Mellow Mushroom. Pours clear amber with a small off white head leaving lace. Aroma is sweet malty fruity and hoppy. Flavor is fruity, a bit vinous, barely no malts which is odd plus the 11% ABV don’t seem to be there. Sligtly bitter and some tea flavor, too. Finishes sweet and tea bitter.
3.6 12 oz bottle from brew3crew. Pours a clear honey amber with very little head. Nose is sweet honey and orange citrus with sweet corn in the background. The flavor is much of the same with less corn but plenty of sweetness. Slightly dry finish. No hint that this is 11%. Interesting.
2.5 This is an odd, yet interesting one. There is a definite note of sweetness and citrus that really comes through from the honey and the orange. It’s a bit intense, but a very interesting drink.
3.8 Bottle to taster (thanks, brew3crew). Looks good for a beer of it’s type; orange with thin lacing. Smells solid; the honey comes through nicely. Tastes good; again, the honey definitely comes through, but in a good way. Remarkable easy to drink for an 11% beer. I enjoyed this.
