Otter Creek Kind Ryed IPA

Otter Creek Kind Ryed IPA

A big, unfiltered American IPA built to accompany the big Eastern Winter. Just like an epic bluebird day follows a snow storm, a peppery build from the Rye-malt accompanies glorious hop notes of pine, citrus and fresh grass.

The bold Rye-malt backbone warms the soul, whether after a long day on the slopes with your buds, or just sitting in front of the fireplace at home.

At 60 IBUs, Kind Ryed uses a combination of Apollo, Simcoe, Chinook and Centennial hops to create a drinkable brew that won’t wipe out your tastebuds. The new look bottle label and packaging artwork goes out-of- bounds and embraces the freeriding spirit of our Brewmaster, Mike Gerhart. It’s his bus that adorns the label and his recipe that fills the bottles. Hop on the bus and take a Kind Ryed with us.

3.5 A cloudy amber that some find unappealing. Why? Lots of good stuff floating in there. The aroma is very malty with bread, caramel and floral notes. The flavor is nicely balanced with the malt up front and the bitter hops rounding out. Nice medium body feel.
3.7 APPEARANCE - dark golden straw in color with good turbidity (thank you rye!) and a cheerful white head. NOSE - strong floral hops immediately. Very pleasing. FLAVOR - good ipa flavor with a bit of an aftertaste I can’t be certain of. NOTES - solid rye ipa.
4.0 Another great standby for a cheaper hoppy beer. Great Amber color, nice hop aroma and a good flavor at the start as well as a strong finish
3.6 12 oz bottle poured into a tumbler..copper color with a fluffy white head..aroma of pine,resin,spices..hoppy,resinous flavor with decent bite from the rye..solid.
2.3 Drank from a twelve ounce bottle, thank you Katrina!! :) Aromas of pine and flowers. Has a light initial taste, a very hoppy/bitter middle flavor and a very light crisp and light finish. A decent beer, complex, IPAs just are not my jam.
4.1 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 11/6/2014. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, light caramel, bread, spicy rye, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready rye malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, bread, spicy rye, and floral/grassy earthiness. Large amount of pine, citrus rind, and spicy rye bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, pine, light caramel, spicy rye bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate bready rye malt flavors; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and resinous/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent rye IPA. All around great complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate bready rye malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.6 This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a thirty seconds. Light lacing strung about the glass. The smell had a nice balanced blend of sweet citrus over top of a light grapefruit, fresh and bright with a light grassiness coming in and out. The taste was bittersweet thoroughly balancing a crisp light spice into the mix. A sweet to lightly spiced aftertaste leads to a decent balanced dry to wet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation hit appropriate for the style and for me. Nice bittersweet grapefruit harshness rolls over my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good AIPA that I could have again.
4.2 Bottle to shaker glass. Pours cloudy amber/orange, nice 2 finger frothy head, nice lacing, great retention. Aroma is citrusy and bright. Taste is incredibly balanced, nice peppery rye malt sweetness, complex bitterness. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, resin yet creamy mouth feel. Finishes slightly sweet but mostly long and pleasing bitters. Tasting notes of caramel, pepper, grass, spruce, lemon rind and grapefruit. Wow, this beer is fantastic! I’m on the bus!
3.7 A handsome rye IPA. Big, sticky head on a dark gold pour. Humid, floral aroma and a well balanced flavor. Very good.
5.0 Bottle into glass pours a cloudy yellow. Fantastically bitter hops dominate. Intensely flavorful pucker factor without being offensively harsh. A fun label, not too much alcohol, an overall perfect beer!
3.8 Bottle from Harvest Market. Wicked tangerine, but a bit heavy on the mineral.
4.0 From 12oz bottle, variety pack, poured into 16oz tulip glass Aroma: loads of hops, citrus, pine, touch of caramel Appearance: hazy golden, off white head Taste: Medium bitter, dry peppery/spicy finish Overall: Really enjoying Kind Ryed seasonal. The finish is great with a dry and somewhat peppery/spicy finish. Great hop choices with good balance with citrus and piney hops. Really tastes like what an American IPA should taste like (from hops). Very nice use of Rye malt. I’m not a fan of Rye beer, but this one is more than acceptable. Enough rye to taste, but not overpowering.
3.7 Pours a nice clear gold color with some decent head retention and lacing. Smells mildly of rye and malt. Has a nice taste of rye and grass. Has a nice taste overall, but is nothing special.
3.6 Aroma: Rye, Bready Malts, Mildly Bitter Appearance: Hazy Amber/Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head, Decent Lacing Taste: Rye, Bready Malts, Mildly Bittering Hops, Mild Citrus Hops Mouthfeel: Average Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Drying
3.5 Bottle. Orange rye malt and orange peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with small head. Sweet orange, rye malt and moderately bitter orange peel flavor. Body on the lighter side. Pretty good.
3.7 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured cloudy, orange with a nice head and some lacing on the glass. Aroma is not too strong, citrus fruit, melon notes, and some malts. Taste is complex, malty, sweet, fruity with a hoody finish. Nice beer very enjoyable.
3.7 Bottle: Hazy, orange-brown with a puffy, off-white head. Orange and orange-peel aroma.Rye malt, caramel, orange flavour... Herbal/pine hopping. A very nice rye....not overly spiced. Very solid.
3.6 Growler from Growlers to go This growler is going to Columbia, SC. the IPA poured a clear light amber with an off white head . The aroma of piney hops and sweet caramel malts greet you. The IPA has a nice medium body with average carbonation. The ale easily swirls in your mouth spreading a light bitterness. Bitterness trails closely behind, pushing the beer to an assertive dry yet spicy swallow.
3.6 The aroma doesn’t really energize me--it’s fair. The taste is pretty substantial with plenty of juicy hops and some of that rye coming through. Appearance is a bit chunky with lots of floaties--not my preference. Finish is bitter and copacetic. Solid.
3.7 12 oz bottle, cloudy dark golden hue with thick creamy white head, some lacing, smells of spicy rye malt and some pine, medium texture, not overly hoppy but also not much in the way of distinguishable hop profile, some bitter and a hint of sour, pretty good, nothing all that great but drinkable
3.7 A really enjoyed this balanced, slightly malty sweet rye notes. The Centennial, Simcoe, Apollo and Chinook hops are not too bold yet offer a nice hop complexity. Very nice.
4.1 Surprisingly nice IPA that has a nice, hoppy profile that is very pleasant to drink.
3.3 From tap. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, peachy and grapefruity. Smooth fruity, crisp hoppy and citrusy. Lingering crisp hoppy finish.
4.6 12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. This was a very pleasant and rather complex IPA that has a few mystery ingredients to add to the mix. Highly recommended.
3.8 pours hazy bright golden with a creamy off-white head offering good retention and lacing. peaches, dusty citrus, cantaloup and other melons, mint, gentle pine needles, light danky tropicalness, clean yeast, lightly doughy pale maltiness - well dosed rye peppery spiciness, soft pepper and pine. light carboantion, light body - oily, balanced spicy-peppery-citrusy finish. pretty solid! much enjoyed!
3.7 Moderately hazy orange body with sustainable white head. Decent lacing. Grapefruit and floral aromas up front with distinct peppery finish on the nose. Fresh pine and more grapefruit in the taste. Dryness is smoothed out with malty rye that is kicked up with hoppy bitter notes. Enough substance and crispness so as not to tip the scale in either direction.
4.0 cloudy, light amber color; citrusy, floral hop aroma; a nice, bitter, citrusy hoppy beer with a great rye malt flavor; light, dry, rye malt base; dry, bitter, rye finish
3.6 12 ounce bottle from Nate as a Christmas sampler. Very hazy golden with a big off white head. Sticky lacing. From a distance grapefruit is smelled and closer to the glass more citrus and bread. Sharp bitterness at the beginning and plenty of grapefruit and more citrus. Some tropical under that. Rye is barely evident. This is nice.
3.8 really quite good rye IPA with great floral and citrus aroma and appetizing head. very bright and well balanced, resiny hops and a bit of dry spice. Awesome after a day on the Vemont slopes.
3.2 Pours a hazy amber with a medium off-white head. Lots of particulates in this unfiltered beer. Aroma is a piney hoppiness. Unlike others I can’t discern a clear rye component, no peppery flavor. It’s a fine IPA.
