This is a traditional porter, made to warm the bones. Nearly black in color, Stovepipe Porter has a rich palate and a roasted, hoppy and slightly herbal aroma.

2.8Draft: dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Like roasted chocolate... Aroma and flavor. Good, but nothing to write home about.
3.9Roasted malt smell, a little chocolate. Very smooth, crisp Porter without giving up taste. Not watery, just balanced.
3.612oz pour from bottle. Dark, cocoa foam. Bitter finish with a slightly thin pallete. Enjoyable, but not elite.
3.1It pours a dark brown leaving the same color body with a one inch off white head that lasts for about thirty seconds. Some nice standard light foamy lacing appears around the sides of the glass. No carbonation is seen rising. The smell centers around the coffee with some chocolate in the background. Some light honey appears. The taste is pretty much the same, but in a good way. The palate is about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, just an overall standard feel. With the ABV where it is, this is still a very drinkable beer. Overall, this is your typical American Porter, nothing special, but nothing bad.
3.6Poured black with thick beige head (very nice). Aroma is of roasted malts hints of smoke. Smoky flavors with touches of caramel or molasses and coffee; leaves you with a dry finish, is definitively a beer made to warm you up as a porter should nice representation of this style of beer.
3.4Bottle. Poured a black color with two finger frothy head. Aroma is coffee bean, cocoa. Medium light bodied. Creamy palate. Slight milkyness. Ok. Easy to drink darker beer.
3.1Opaque black/brown color with an off-white head and streaks of lace. The taste is oily caramel/chocolate roasted malt with a hint of smoke. The flavor gives way to small bittering near the finish, but the sweeter taste lingers far into the finish. Decent porter, but a little heavy. Not one that cleanses and refreshes.
3.6On tap at Strange brew, comes to the table a solid dark brown/black color with a smallish creamy off white head that doesn’t last very long. Smells of chocolate and caramel with hints of roast and earthy hop. The flavor is toffee caramel, brown sugar, and chocolate, with hints of roast and earthy pungent hops. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Nice simple porter, certainly nothing that’s going to rock your world, but a nice drinker just the same.
3.0Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Pours black to brown with a beige head, aroma of nuts, some smoke, milk chocolate, flavor of malt, chocolate, bizarre sourness, relatively watery.
3.6355ml bottle. Nice looking pour, solid black with a mocha head. Taste and smell are pretty standard for a porter, roasted malt and a hint of chocolate. Slightly herbal hops on the finish. Creamy body. Overall, this was a very good representative of the style, nothing bad, but nothing special or different.
3.4Poured from the bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a dark brown/black color with a dark ruby hue along with a small creamy-foamy off-white head with low retention, and modest lacing and cling. Its aroma had a roasty chocolate and coffee malt complex with notes of earthy and grainy hops, along with some oat and caramel tones. Its taste was sweet roasty chocolate with light coffee and some bitter grainy and earthy notes along with a touch of oats. It was a fairly wet beer, and was a touch watery with a creamy body, featuring average carbonation with a touch of fizz and a dry finish with a somewhat chalky aftertaste.
2.9Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks zvikar. Pours dark brown with a dark tan wave. Deep roasty aroma with some wood. Tastes sweet and roastish. Light body, soft carbonation.
3.812oz into a pint, color is dark midnight, black magic marker. Taste is malty, roasty, dark choco, mixed nuts, grainy granola, and sweet sugared molasses. Head is tiny and leaves an inconsisten ring round the glass. Body is full, mouthfeel is dry and sweet. Name fits the beer, as one can picture either enjoying one near a stovepipe or in a stovepipe. Nice VT brew.
3.0Pours dark amber with a small light brown head that disappears quickly. Kinda light on the aroma side with hints at best of grass and hay. The taste is also rather light for its’ style with a light to medium bitterness. Again, rather thin palate for a porter with average carbonation, medium body and a dry finish. Though it’s brewed just down the road from where I live, you might think that I’d rate it higher, it is just not that good.
3.4Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks zvikar. Very dark to black with a very light brown head. Roasty aroma of coffee beans and some dark chocolate. Bittersweet roasty flavor with coffee and a dry finish. Medium-bodied.
3.3Dark brown pour. Decent head. Coffee nose. Crisp carbonation. Hickory, chocolate. A bit of unpleasantness, almost vinegar-like; but decent flavor.
4.7Great color and character. Smooth aroma without the bitter aftertaste of some porters. Comparable to Guinness without heaviness and better flavor.
3.2Bottle. Pours black with big big tan head beautiful. Not much aroma slight roast. Taste is very thin light coco so so porter
3.7Poured from a 12oz bottle (thanks to Dave L from PA - drank Apr ’12) at room temperature into a snifter to an off black, dark chestnut brown colour with a thin tan head which soon reduced and dispersed to little more than a puddle atop the glass.
Lacing present above the beer line throughout drinking.
The aroma was non too powerful. A little roasted malt with a modicum of coffee and biscuit in the background.
A solid tasting porter dominated by roast malts and chocolate, the latter which I didn’t really pick up on the nose! A little tobacco and wood in the background and a sweetish malty finish.
The mouthfeel was just right for me, medium in body with a smooth finish and minimal carbonation. This beer invites you back for more with every sip and I only wished I had another bottle to crack open!
Overall a decent porter and certainly one I’d go for again. At room temperature from the off, this beer got better on each reviewing field, the aroma and appearance were ok, but the all important (to me) taste and palate were excellent!
Definately one to visit again!
3.7Bottle. Coffee brown color. Foamy dark tan head. Rich coffee and nutty aromas. Very malty flavor in coffee and nut, roasty, and a touch of herby hop. Rich character and drinkable. I enjoyed this very much.
3.6Appearance is a small brown head with nearly black color. Aroma is a sweet coffee. Taste is a blend of chocolate and coffee. Overall definitely my style.
3.2This is a decent porter. Pours very dark with a slight brown head. Has a hint of bitterness to it, which is probably from the hops. Roasted flavors really come through.
3.5Pours dark brown with a creamy medium tan head...nice lacing and retention. Aroma is lightly roasted and slightly nutty...touch of metallic. Flavor is roasty...mild char...touches of chocolate and cocoa. Mouthfeel is light/medium with a roasty, charred finish.
2.912oz Bottle. Tasted at the RIFT Porter tasting. The weakest porter of the evening in my opinion. Salty, warm, watery pretzels come to mind, followed by carob and toast. This just doesn’t develop malt depth and manages to push out a range of odd starchy flavors in the process.
3.6Draft. Deep black. Hoppy and malty at the same time. Really crisp for a dark beer. Really good
3.3Bottle at Shop-N-Save event, 4/21/12. A quality porter; my favorite of the event. Roasty scent with a medium bodied, crisp finishing palate. Very roasted coffee taste through and through.
3.3Aroma of coffee and a flavor with black licoriche on back end and a bit of a wet palatte but flavorful beer overall. Bit like spent coffee grains though which seep into your coffee. Not bad.
2.212 oz bottle.
Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Decent lacing and not very much carbonation. Aroma is of coffee and licorice with a little bit of sweetness thrown in. Flavor is somewhat thin . Chocolate, coffee, caramel.
3.5Pours a nice dark color with a two finger light tan head. Smell is robust, rich coffee and roasty flavors. Taste is a bit roasty, some coffee, some chocolate, but very subtle. Slight bitterness, almost a bit sour. Drinkable. Medium bodied. Decent porter.
3.5Bottle... Poured pitch black with a khakie head. Nose had dark, roasted grains, quite earthy. Full bodied, nice carbonation. Dark coffee, smoke, tobacco, dark grains and ash. Mildly metallic with dark barley grains, molasses that was bitter-sweet.
