3.0 Fra fat på Brass Monkey, Plymouth 22 Sep 16. Mørk gyldenbrun. Juice-aktig. Lett plommearoma. Smaken fyldig. Sherry. Tørr avslutning. Hadde vært et utmerket dessertøl.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a clear amber colour with a thin off white head. Aroma of fruitcake, raisin, some toffee, slight red berries, a little red wine, a hint of brown sugar and subtle spicy hops. Taste of raisin, dark fruit, some red berries, slight fruitcake, a little toffee, a hint of metal and subtle spicy hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A bittersweet, fruity, spicy hop bitterness in the finish. I like the complex aroma, the fruit and the amount of hoppy bitterness balancing out the heavy sweetness, however it’s not rich in flavour enough. Decent though.
3.5 Cask ale, shared with Finn at Brass Monkey. Deep mahogany coloured body, Frothy beige head leaving crocheted lacing on the glassware. Chocolate malts on the nose, lightly roasted. Fine blended taste profile of chocolate malts and dried fruits. Malt-fruity bitterness to a pleasant finish. Medium bodied. Perfect drink after my bacon and chicken salad (Plymouth 22.09.2016).
3.0 Pint in London Inn, Torquay. Pours rich dark brown with bubbly of white head that recedes with significant lacing. Aroma   raisins, port, rich maltiness. Strong alcoholic taste. Sweet in the palate.
2.9 Clear copper color with small tan foam. aromas of fresh ground malt, dusty flour, grains and hay. Palate, full body, thick-ish texture and sweet sugary finish. Taste, sweet of malt, biscuits and grains (simple). Overall, sticky, sickly sweet, not esiest beer, nice but not for me.
3.1 Appearance-light copper brown with disappearing golden foam, aromas- sweet malt, dates, and caramelised chestnuts (marrons Glacés). Palate- medium to full bodied, quite flat and quite sticky and oily in texture. Taste- malt, simple, dissapointing. Overall- great aromas but somewhat lacking in palate and flavour.
3.6 From the cask at Reading Beer Festival 2016. Complex, malty and clean, and tasty and well rounded beer. Otter have gone up in my estimation.
3.0 Butelka 500ml. Mahoniowy ciemny kolor. Piana zoltawa dosc wysoka szybko opadajaca .Aromat nikly slodowy . Orzechy chmiel ciastka delikatny karmel.W smaku slodkie wyrozniaja sie orzechowo- owocowe nuty. Lekko slodowo -karmelowy finisz. Pijalne Marcin G
3.4 Aroma: caramel, bread malts, grain. Appearance: clear amber, small, off-white, frothy head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: malts continue and remain very dominant, some unspecified fruitiness coming up, soft carbonation. Overall: very nice aroma, bit weak palate, but overall OK English "Strong" Ale. Bottle from Waitrose, Exter.
4.1 Quaffed this as a draught at Milton Abbas street fair on a fine sunny day, delicious, a lovely clear ruby red colour, rich rewarding raisin fruits, malty, this beer would be perfect with a ploughmans.
3.5 15th July 2014 Chelmsford Summer Beer Fest. Cask. Light haze on this deep amber beer. Residual bubbly pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Rich malts but not heavy. Good semi sweet dark toffee. Ripe fruits blend well with the toffee. Traces of hard candy fruits and sweet esters. Toucb of floralness. Light finish. Dark toffee lingers on. Good stuff.
3.8 Bottle. Bright amber with a cream head. Sweet and fruity with some pear drop notes. A somewhat bitter finish. Full flavoured and good.
3.6 Half-pint at the 2014 Lincoln Beer Festival. Good looking dark, deep brown beer with a full white crown on top. Malty from the start, this is a fruity, wholesome brew that oozes flavour. The hops keep the maltiness in check to produce a lovely blend that is easy to drink, mildly bitter towards the finish.
4.1 Appearance: Clear copper with 2 finger thick ivory head. Aroma: Chocolate malt, bread, floral, treacle, umami. Taste: Medium sweetness and bitterness with low/medium sourness. Palate: Thick smooth texture, light/medium body, average carbonation, lingering dry, raisin, prune, chocolate malt, bready, treacle, herbal finish. Comments: Lovely and glass lace.
3.5 Clear copper colored beer with light brown lacing foam head. Aroma is lught caramel, some yeast, some barley. Taste is bitter with some gras notes. Turning more bitter in time. (Velp 201311)
3.8 Bottle pours coppery amber with light beige full head that laces. Aroma is rich, caramel, dark fruit maybe a hint of yeast. Fruity sweet start with a counterbalance light bitterness to finish and linger. Some pleasant alcohol warmth . Full palate. Medium carbonation. A good beer.
3.4 It has to be the quality of the water filtered down through sandstone that gives this beer such a great crystal clean flavour. Chocolate bitter sweetness and barley wine warmth and depth. Quite a sharp green hop citrus ending that lingers on the palate. Quick to make you squiffy!
3.1 Pours a dark amber with a nice frothy white head, aroma is dried raisins, dates, taste is pleasent, bit fruit with some caramel, chocolate but metallic undertones.
3.5 Pours like a brewed ice tea, complete with tea-ish head. Scent is caramel, pepper, dark fruit. Taste is very bready and dry... Sweet front, bitter back. A very good ale.
3.3 Cask in a pub opposite Exeter Cathedral whose name I forget. Full-bodied for the style and quite sweet, with hints of bread, raisin and orange coming through. Nice bitter.
2.8 Copper-brown in colour with a strong aftertaste, although the strength is hidden somewhat by the fruity sweet flavours which are also evident in its aroma.
3.6 50cl bottle. Pours a lovely amber with gentle bubbles and a nicely proportioned head some of which remains. The nose has raisins and flour. The taste has flour and toffee this time and chocolate biscuits on the finish. The palate is rich but very tight, then a compact middle section which continues into a long dry finish. Overall, a nice strong bitter.
3.7 Bottled 06/05/12. A russet coloured beer with an off-white ring of head. A fruity aroma with sweet and slightly sugary notes. Predominantly malty but the hops are there too and give good fruitiness. A nice long finish. Boozy and tasty.8
2.9 Cask at Walsall Beer festival. Amber orange pour with a small white head. Fruit and malt in the aroma And flavor with a little alcohol.
3.3 500ml bottle. Pours dark orange with a thin head. Aroma is sticky caramel, orange squash and alcohol. Taste is sweet, raisin and fig. A little alcohol.
3.3 First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in May 1995. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear mahogany in colour with a thin white head. Crisp green apples noted in the short aroma. Thin but resiny mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malts give a robust digestive biscuit base laden with syrupy sultanas, raisins, dates and maple syrup flavours sweet in the palate. Hop resins give a spicy note to the long dry aftertaste. Malt returns with chocolate orange notes full in the mouth, drier currants and oak cask flavours in at the end. Now this is a ESB and highly recommended.
2.8 Cask at the knights templar, bristol. Dark amber with fruit and higher alcohols on nose. Sweet and fruity body, bitter end
3.6 Inköpt i England och drucken med ölföreningen. En bra ESB med karamellkaraktär som balanseras av en frisk och fruktig humle med bra bett i beskan.
4.2 Cask at the allied arms beer festival it is dark brown in colour and has a dark fruit aroma and the taste has hints of dark fruit bitter sweet and may have a hint of chocolate a lovely strong bitter.
4.1 Cask, handpump @ The Bridge Inn, Topsham, Devon. Dimple glass, perfect full pint, almost spilled it sitting back down. Bright as bright ruddy tinged copper with a wafer of white atop. Mildly sherryish, woody and peaty nose, a little liquorice root. Quite spicy with noticeable alcohol and a lot of dark fell fruit coming through, mild yeasty note late. Complex nose leads straight into the palate. Sweet, a lot of toffee and treacle, sherry notes are well pronounced. Nutty, warm Christmas pudding flavour dominates the palate, the body is full and it penetrates well. Lush bitter burnt fruit, stinging nettles and pine needles on the swallow. Assertively bitter, long long linger mirrors the palate, warming for its modest alcohol. Quite full on, it’s not overly sessionable but makes for a great starter or night cap. Lovely stuff.
