Oud Beersel Oude Geuze Barrel Selection Oude Pijpen

Oud Beersel Oude Geuze Barrel Selection Oude Pijpen

Our "oude pijpen" are old barrels of 650 liters that are used for Lambic for generations. The barrels were used to transport port wine by boat to Belgium and were purchased by Lambic breweries. These barrels are between 60 and 120 years old and give a character of old wood combined with expressive flavors of traditional Lambic.

Super !
4.0 Bottle at home. Vintage 2017. Has a slightly hazy amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of oak, apple cider vinegar, stable, forest floor, rowanberries, citric acid, flowers, rose pepper and green apples. Flavour of apple cider vinegar, dried apricots, oak, forest floor, rowanberries and some hay. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. More spicy touch than most gueuzes I´ve tried. Tasteful and well-balanced.
Wysycenie wysokie. Ciało średnie. Tekstura średnio gładka. Posmak długi, kwaśny, owocowy.
4.1 Poured into a thin glass where it was an almost clear orange gold with lots of carbonation and a lasting foamy white head. Aroma of slightly sour apples, gooseberries, vanilla, wood and funk. Taste is quite sharp apples and gooseberries, but with mellow woody vanilla notes. Medium sour. Very dry throughout and especially in the finish. A 2020 bottle which tasted notably fresh, be interesting to taste again when it has a few more years in it.
4.0 Bottle. RAD Beer. Opaque orange gold. Thin, dense, lasting bright white head. Nose has lime juice. Gooseberry. Vanilla. Leathery brett. Damp firewood. Taste is sharp and tart, dry and woody, and grassy bitter. Clean and dry on the palate with high, foamy, massaging carbonation. Dry and tart finish. This was a 2020 version and felt very fresh.
4.3 (375ml bottle from a now-forgotten webshop) Pours lightly hazy orange-gold with basically no head. A nice dry lemony geuze with supporting fruity berries and soft esters, light but smooth leathery wood, light sweetness from the malt seems more pronounced than some other Oud Beersel lambics and some cereals pop out, well-developed sweaty mulchy barnyard funk, light lactic acidity and maybe a bare touch of cider vinegar, drying finish with the wood and funk persisting into the aftertaste. Light to medium oily body with good filling carbonation.
3.9 Blond colour with light haze and tight, bright head. Initial aroma of lemony vinegar and wood. Slightly disty too. Flavour has moxed elements of citric sharpness tempered by the oaky dryness from the wood and a subtle sweet grape note.

4.1 375ml bottle decanted @ home. Pours a mostly clear tarnished copper colour with a small white head. Nose is lambic funk, gentle leather, and light wood notes. Flavour is delicious funk, light citrus, and a gentle wood character. Light bodied, good carbonation, and a good mlid sweetness more so than usual with a rich funky bitterness. Lovely!
4.0 Corked bottle from Firefly, Vancouver, bb 20/11/2037, 3 years old Hazy to cloudy golden colour, poured with small head. The aroma is largely funky, horseblanket, light sulfur, there seem to be a note of vinegar too, though. Sharp acidity, it has a good degree of complexity, funky notes, old cellar, some fruity vinegar. Bold, very good.

4.1 Bottle. Golden orange pour. Aroma of delicious dry funk, horseblanket, green apple, oak, citrus, oaky vanilla and lots of brett. Taste has dry funk, horseblanket, tangy green apple, oak, brett and citric acidity. Once it gets loose a little, more fruit tones appear, like juicy white grape and more sweet apple. Great complex gueuze, delicious.
3.7 Funky and tart. Dry with a somewhat salty finish.
4.3 Slightly hazy golden pour with a thin head. Extremely funky and wild smell, nice graininess, almost a sweaty smell, faint honeydew. Taste is lovely, complex, tart and mouthwatering. A dry cidery texture, relatively light bodied. The wild and grainy flavour sinks into your tongue, a lively champagne like sparkle. Really nice.
4.4 A 375ml corked and caged bottle with a best before date of 20th November 2037. Poured into a Cantillon gueuze glass. It was a lightly hazy golden colour with a one finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly while leaving some curtain like lacing. Aromas of lemon and lime peel, citrus rind, funk, wet wood, straw, hay, and a touch of apple. Tastes sour, funky, musty, wet wood, oak, green apple, with a tart lemon lime finish. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, very nice easy drinking gueuze, with a good balance between the funk, oak, and tart citrus.
4.2 Bouteille 375ml. Couleur orangée pâle translucide, mousse blanche fugace. Arôme de pomme mûre, levures sauvages, poussiéreux, boisé, pointe de raisin. Goût de levures sauvages, pelure de pomme, boisé, acidité moyenne, amertume moyenne-faible, pointe de fruits jaunes. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen.
4.1 375 ml bottle. Poured clear golden color, with a thin white head. Lovely funky nose with green apples, barnyard and tartness. Dry funkyness, barnyard and apricotty notes in flavor. Funky finish, wood and tartness. Excellent stuff.
4.1 Stavanger 220619. Golden color with a white head. flavor is farmhouse, sourness, yeast, fruit, wood. Very nice beer.
4.3 2017 vintage that pours unclear golden-orange, almost with some red tint, with a very nice white cap offering some retention and lacing. golden funky apples, tons of vinous wood character, red wine, even getting some sweetish port notes, candied oranges, dusty peppery apricots, spot-on level of tartness - very complex and diverse flora; magic herbs. healthy carbonation, light body - fairly oily but it's six point five per cent; dry and pleasantly tart fruity-vinous finish. slightly higher abv propells it. it is a lot more funky than their regular OG with lots of wine character. excellent vinous liquid.
4.4 Bottle. Pours lightly hazy orange with a medium white head. Notes of sweet oak, light acidity, esters, banana, citrus, lightly funky.
