Malt beverage aged in oak and with cherries added
Kriek ale is a classic among Belgian ales created by adding whole fresh cherries (400 G/L) to a blend of young and old lambic, which provides both seasoning and sparks another fermentation resulting in a product of astonishing complexity. Oud Beersel Oude Kriek ale has no added sugar and contains no artificial flavourings or preservatives. Brewed since 1882.
(from 2014 label)

real cherries ... are slowly absorbed into the Lambic, which develops a fruity character and a ruby red colour. Oud Beersel Oude Kriek contains around 400 grams of cherries per litre, which is the most of its kind.

The authentic production method of Oude Kriek is under European protection.

Shelf life: 20 years
Ingredients: water, 400 g morello cherries/l, barley malt, wheat, hops
Colour: ruby red
Aroma: surprising fragrance of sour cherries and almonds
Flavour: the real cherries unveil an overwhelming fruitiness and a touch of almond from the cherry pits completes the joy.

3.8 This is a backlog rating from 2008 from a bottle shared by Tmoney99, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time, work and/or family. Words to describe this beer are tart cherries, vinous, musty funk, acidic, very good.
4.0 375 ml bottle. Pours hazy dark red with tall, long-lasting, foamy pink head. Aroma is of barn yard yeast, vinegar and cherries. Body is medium and tangy. Taste is of cherries, wheat malt, funky yeast and vinegar. Finish is long and very sour. Nice sour brew.
3.5 Dark, deep, ruby colour. Delicious taste, sweet cherries. Great together with sweeties.
4.0 Man this nails it. The cherries are fresh and full with a mild sweetness, that's countered with a tart aserbic bite that balances it just out. It's good. This is what a Kriek should be.
4.0 Caged and corked in green glass, as 'Oude Kriek Ale' on the back and 'Oude Kriek Vieille' on the font, still 6% abv, BEST BEFORE 10.04.2034. No gush or explosion, hooray! Beautiful sour lambic nose with oak, no cherry. Pours beautiful, rich garnet that's dusky in the glass, head is foamy and pink. Cherry makes an appearance in the mouth, fruity and skin-focused without a sugar or sour cherry burst; dry with low alcohol, touch tannic on the tongue with mild oak, no vanillin or whisky lactone, persistent low bitterness that really works well with the dryness, tanginess but no big sourness, certainly no pucker, but with bright elements of acidity in the background. Low carbonation and quite a heavy body. A mature, easy drinker for every day, subtle in its wiles but smoulders with bone-deep, natural cherry. Elegant. [2021.01.01: 4.0]
4.1 Ruby colour.tart.cherries,woody.very pure.a lasting low carbonation.one of my favourite krieks. Bbf:2038.
4.5 Cloudy, dark ruby color and a nichr pinky head. Ha, thats fine! Tart, cherry nose. Old school Kriek: sour, dark cherries, no sweetness. No nonsens.
4.1 Pours a cloudy, deep, dark ruby red coloration with a large, fluffy, pink'ish head. Smell is dominated by sweet and tart black cherries, as well as hints of musty oak and funk. Taste follows the nose, with an expressive sweet and tart black cherry presence and some rather musty, somewhat tannic oak notes, as well as some subtle, leathery funk and just a hint of balsamic vinegar, with a good underlying lactic, citric acidity. Finishes quite dry, with a medium acidity and some black cherries and musty oak and funk lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation. While Oud Berseel may be one of the lesser known Belgian Lambic breweries, their beer certainly doesn't need to shun comparison with the greats. I already rather enjoyed their Geuze and this Kriek is no less impressive, featuring quite an expressive black cherry presence with a great balance of only lightly sweet and medium tart notes, as well as a rather dry and musty character, with some distinct, tannic oak notes and lighter, leathery funk, as well as a good, medium acidity and very nice, effervescent mouthfeel. Overall, definitely one of the better Krieks that I've had, pretty much only eclipsed by Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen and not by all that much. While it may not have a strong funkiness to it, I really feel that it makes up for that with its vibrant fruitiness and dry and musty character.
3.7 Tap at Taphouse, Copenhagen. Clear ruby, no head. Funk, red wine vinegar, subtle cherry. Dry, mild bitterness. Soft carbonation. Good!
4.6 75cl Flasche. Dunkelrot, flacher Schaum. Tiefer Kirschenduft. Schön gereift. Antrunk gereifte Säure und satt Kirsche. Sehr langer Abgang. Grosse Klasse!
3.5 Pours a very nice dark but still bright red, with a couple of fingers (pretty big per style) of a greyish head that shows some pink hints. Good enough retention and a bit of lacing too. Softish, lightly sour kind of aroma: a soft dough base, cherries and light raspberry, delicate hints of almond and wood on the back of things. Taste follows aroma notes: a soft/doughish entry, cherries and light raspberry plus a slight hint of lemonish sharpness. A touch of almond in finish and aftertaste. Wild notes very much in check (i can't detect much more than a woody, perhaps slightly leathery hint). Taste is overall averagely vivid, with moderate sourness per style. Balanced, semi-dry finish. Medium bodied with light to medium but fizzy carbonation, resulting in a mouthfeel that is perhaps slightly more vivid than usual per style. Overall, a not especially rich or potent example of the style, but a well made and enjoyable one.
4.0 Aroma; berries, peel, cherries, chingourum, nut, malts. Look; off-pink head on mahogany body. Taste; berries, plum, peel, cherries, almond, goofraghrams, malts, and finishes in a juicy tail. Feel; good body n smooth co². Overall; it`s nice. [cleaning garaž solo tasting, btl@Norway's Healthy Fluids Chain]
4.0 Pours dark ruby red with medium pink head. Sweet cherries in the nose while taste is ripe cherries yet not to sweet, really nice balanced and silk smooth taste and mouthfeel.
4.0 Bella birra.
3.6 Ordered online from LCBO (I think), I’m still impressed when I drink a red beer, which I think is fantastic. Overall, nice fruity sour.
3.8 Cork and caged 37.5cl bottle; BB 27th Jun 2027. Bought years ago somewhere in Belgium. Drank at home on 15th Apr 2020 during the virus 'Lock In'. Nice red hue to the body, short lived head. Semi-sour cherries and a woody nature sums up this beer nicely.
3.9 Pours with a hazy red brown body and a small pink head. Aroma of plums and cherries with a bready like maltiness transitioning to a cleansing fruity sour, tart finish. Light bodied
4.3 75 cl. corked bottle, bought at Echarle Huevos, served at home in a stem glass (a Rodenbach Alexander one).arrk red that lasts for a long while and leaves a ring over the glass. Funky aroma of cherries, bubblegum, leather, wood, spices, vanilla, cherrie stalk. Medium to full body, sour feel, good crbonation. Sour finish. Taste ofcherries, wood, spices, leather, vanilla. Great.
3.7 Bottle. 2002 vintage, drink by 2007, as "Oud Beersel Oude Kriek Vielle". Nose of light fruit, mild and tingling. Ruby brown color, which swirls up into a light pink head of foam.. Big tart fruit, rhubarb, moves in to gentle fruitiness by mid palate. Very nice. Still has a bit of it likely former youthful bloom.
3.6 Bottle shared at Craft Beer Spot. Pours ruby with an off white/pinkish head. Nose is funky lambic aroma, with subtle cherries. Taste is, well slightly funky, a bit acidic, there's cherries but not that strongly. Tart fruity finish, light body, average to high cabonation. Pleasant and all, but a bit held back and one dimensional - or just my expectations were too high.
3.9 #3500, aged. Hazy, ruby to purple, minimal pink head. Aroma of sour cherries. Taste is lightly tart, strongly sour, barrel, vanilla, honey, strawberries, cherries. Very smooth, noble.
3.9 Bottle 0.375l from our archive, Oude Kriek Vieille, 6.5% abv, five years aged. Cloudy, dark red colored. AROMA- cherry, touch of leather, spicy, cinnamon. FLAVOR- very smooth, sour, cherry, leather, spicy. Fuller bodied. Well balanced, well aged, very tasty.
5.0 Hazy dark red with a ruby/pink head. Beautiful cherry aroma. Taste is cherry, sour - not too much, though. The perfect Kriek.
