OWA Yuzu Lambic

OWA Yuzu Lambic

Brewed using Japanese Yuzu (lemon).
The base lambic is blended with lambic matured 1-2 years in wooden barrel. After that, matured 1 year with selected Yuzu and second fermentation in the bottle, same as champagne yeast.
Produced by Japanese brewer Leo Imai in Belgium.

Limited to 200 bottles.

[label was typed in very poor English, I tried as best as possible to stay true to what the brewer meant to say]

2.7 Bottle thanks to Squiggs. Pours a cloudy yellow with small white head. The aroma is yeast and strong dough. Slick body, citrus and dough, earthy, decent.
1.4 Bottle foolishly bought from Belgium in a Box as a box filler. Never again as this won worst in show and was one of the worst beers I tried in the last couple months. Pours a dirty golden without much head. Smell and flavor of Paint thinner, dead wood, silly putty, and sharp acid. This is dangerous. Kurt owes me some beer
3.0 Bottle: Poured a clear amber color lambic with no carbonation. Aroma of heavy funky notes with barnyard notes and tart lemony notes are also perceptible. Taste is a nice mix of heavy funky notes with some barnyard notes and sour/acid lemony notes. Body is about average with no carbonation as it is usually the case with lambic. Drinkability is low with weird sour and heavy funky mix.
3.2 Bottle from Brusseis at home. Vintage 2015. Pours a clear light orange with no head. Sour with a light dryness. Aromas of sour apples with hints of yuzu. Tiny cream soda hints. Medium to light bodied. No carbonation. Sour finish with hints of pepper.
3.7 75cl (bb...) kindly shared by impuritylaw at beersnake1's farewell to FR tasting-of-sorts. - This lambiek is full-on Japanese lemon in all its aspects, ranging from the thick lemon balm pour to a tangy lemon aroma so intense it soon opens up into an expressionistic painting of citrus: Wafts of lemon balm go into dishwashing overdrive. Reassured to learn this was brewed only with yuzu peel and Owa mainly used De Troch lambiek here, a lambiek that in its young version is quite roughly lemon-forward in itself. Result is an intensely, thick citrus character than incorporates a certain wheat thickness and an intense lemon zest bitterness that builds to quenching "bitter lemon" grapefruit levels, while gathering some wheat porridge sweetness underneath. Very low on the oak or funk. Reminded me of my own dryhopping instant lemonade experiments, maybe that's why I was among few to like this in the tatsing pool...
3.4 Bottle. Murky golden pour with a white head. Very zesty lime, a little tartness, clean with a slightly dry finish.
3.9 9-3-8-4-15 Bottle, vintage 2015,two years before bbd. Pours cloudy orange, with a tiny creamy head. Aroma is tart yuzu, hay, bretty wood and farmhouse. Medium body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is tart fruity notes of yuzu, musty fruits and wet hay, as well as nuts, tannins, wooden brett and farmyard notes.
3.8 Flaska från SB, vintage 2015. Halvdisig guldfärgad med liten vit krona. I princip helt stilla.
2.2 Bottle. Etre Gourmet. 2016 on front label. Soulless looking gold colour. No head. Nose has picked onion vinegar and cardboard. Bit of a wet leather thing. Taste is acidic and bitter. Oily, depressing mouthfeel. Tastes old as you like. Can’t be bothered. Grim.
3.7 0,375l bottle shared with some people @ One Pint Pub. Pours hazy golden with a very low head. Aroma is funky tart malts with citrus. Flavor is sour malts with citrus. Pretty good.
3.5 Cytrusy, pot, miód, siano. Ciekawe, inne, ale nic zachwycającego. Chyba niekoniecznie warto spróbować.
2.9 At a tasting, thanks, almost no head, quite clear dark orange color, light lemon aroma with dominant oxidised notes and a hint of mustard, lemon and oxidised flavor with some acetones, strong but too heavy sourness. Drinkable but feels old.
3.4 Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom L's place. Thanks Tom L. Clear golden. Oxidation, yuzu, candy, faint funk, lots of oak, a bit of ginger, acidic, a bit sweetish, lemony, a bit of apple, medium-bodied. Nice.
3.2 At Tom's Place, pours yellow with a small head, aroma of ginger, lemon, rotten orange, flavor is slightly sour with lavender, ginger, lemon, sour apples, medium bodied
3.1 Had a minimal taster from the end of the bottle for disgusting lot of money for the portion. Thanks Mechels Beer Festival... Anyway, Aroma of apple, stables, fruit. Poured like sink water. Taste of sour and yellow apples, sour citrus fruits (red grapefruit?) Weak finish, rather lemonade. Dry. Probably the experience made the rating worse.
3.9 Bardzo ciekawe piwo, yuzu tutaj w kierunki bardzo dojrzałych owoców, specyficzny posmak
3.4 Bottle, vintage 2015. Aroma is thyme, rosemary, sage, lots of spices and herbs, tangerine, wet cellar. Taste is more of the same, lemony. Oily mouthfeel. Quite interesting, but weird.
3.2 Bottle. Nose is all of the pizza spices, Thymian, rosemary, sage. Palate is yuzu but also very spicy, very a lemony zesty finish. I wish this was different, I love yuzu.
3.2 Aroma is sage, rosemary, mandarin, tomato, slight sour mealy stuff. Taste is intense sour mandarin with lots of herbs. Some wood stuff. Very mealy on the tongue again. Would pour this on my pizza. I like it.
3.4 Bottle. Pours cloudy amber. Aroma is rosemary, thyme, sage. Body is medium and very weird. Earth, yuzu, herbs and spices. Lemon acidity, zesty. Umami. Short dry acidic palate.
3.8 Bottle at salthorse. Pours golden amber, nose is lemon, yuzu, funky, oak, taste is pickled onion, tart citrus, oak.
3.4 375ml bottle at home. Somewhat hazy golden with a subtle white head. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Quite sour. Lots of lemons (yuzu), oak, grapes and yeast. A tad too lemony, but still a nice special brew.
3.8 W aromacie delikatnie cytrusy-pomarańcza, stajnia, mokra skóra, siano. Dodatkowo aromat który określiłbym jako piwniczny. Kwaśne, ale nie za bardzo. W smaku podobnie jak w aromacie. Bardzo dobre lambici.
4.2 Shared 750 ml corked & capped green bottle, vintage 2013, at local tasting, thanks to gunnar. Bottle No. 481 out of 1200. ABV is 5.5%. Golden to orange colour, small white head. Lovely aroma of yuzu fruit, lemons and farmhouse, hints of spices. Moderate carbonation. Flavour of yuzu, lemons, brettanomyces, hints of spices. Astringent. Very, very good.
4.1 Shared bottle at local tasting.ABV 5,5%. Bottle 481. Pours almost clear deep golden with a tiny white head. Aroma of fresh lemons, light funky farmhouse. Taste is light tarty soft citrus, traces of farmhouse, very good and moreish.
Lett uklar solgul led kort skum. Årgang 2013.
4.1 Shared bottle at RB/HD at Gunnar´s 18.04.17. Clear golden. White head. Excellent aroma of lemon juice. Complex taste and strong lemon taste and lemongrass. Good drinkability. Excellent!!!
3.2 Bottle. Pours hazy dark golden (sewer water) almost no head. Aroma: medicine, vinegar, sourish, cough medicine, rotten fruits, acidity, rotten sea weed- funny and weird aroma. Taste; soil, sourish , acidity, sewer, vegetables, smokey. Medium body. Really weird beer. Cant really rate it. Grate is between 1,2 -3,7. HAVE TO TRY IT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I FEELING: REALLY MESSY FEELING FEELING.
