Palm Dobbel

Palm Dobbel

Master brewer Alfred Van Roy launched Dobbel PALM in 1947 as a beer for the festive season in order to celebrate the brewery’s bicentenary. He offered it at no extra cost, as a token of appreciation to all his loyal customers. The beer was so successful that he turned it into an annual tradition.

Dobbel PALM is a top-fermentation amber beer with an even more pronounced malty and hoppy character than PALM. With an alcohol content of 5.7%, Dobbel PALM is the ideal connoisseurs’ beer for the festive season.

3.5 .75l bottle Explosive. Pours hazy amber with low head. Aroma is malts, honey notes, caramel, syrup notes, apple, dried fruits, spices. Flavor is mostly same.
2.6 De geur is niet zo geweldig. En de smaak is hetzelfde. Niet slecht, maar absoluut mijn ding niet.
2.1 Slecht bier!
2.9 F: off-white, average, average retention. C: coppery, clear. A: malt, dark caramel, brown sugar, molasses, dark fruits. T: malt, light caramel, brown sugar, fruity, hint of grassy bitterness, moderate body, average carbonation, quite commercial Belgian ale, 0,25l bottle from Carrefour in Brussels.
3.8 The beer has a beautiful amber color, with a little red glow. The beer pours a layer of slightly of white foam. The beer doesn’t poor a lot of foam, and the bulk collapses. A tiny drape of foam remains on top or the beer. The beer is perfectly clear. This fits the color beautifully. The beer has a very nice smell. It is slightly sour, sweet and a little bitter. The different aroma’s are in good balance. I smell a little bitter roast aroma. There is also a nice bittersweet almondy aroma. The beer also has something savory in the smell. This is quite nice, and not like most other beers. I like it. The taste of the beer is also quite nice. The little roast/smokey flavor is also present, so is the little savory sensation. It is a beer that is a good friend of some salty nuts. The taste also has a nice blend between sweet, a little sour and bitter. The bitterness is a little stronger in the taste than it was in the smell, but this is nice. It gives the beer a little more power. It sure is a nice beer to drink on a cold winter night.
2.4 yeah, not very good. i love the regular palm but this is pretty awful. Please don’t
2.6 Sugarcane, grilled grains and malts. I like the frothy malt aftertaste, the rest is sugarwater. Backlog from 2015/02/27.
2.3 Not outstanding aroma. Taste a bit roasted malty, with an obvious bitterness.
3.5 Orange colored beer! Palm is one of my favorite brands. This is the ’winter’ version of their ’Speciale’ beer. Tasting so nice, I love it.
3.0 Aroma: Malts, caramel, slight belgian yeast, fruit. Appearance: A golden/copper coloured beer with a small white head. Taste/Palate: Starts fizzy and sweet, then quickly turns slightly bitter. Really watery feeling.
2.8 25cl Flasche. Kupferfarbenes Bier. Kräftiges Malzaroma. Typischer belgischer Geschmack. Leicht alkoholisch.
2.8 Bottle at home. Aroma of bready malt, caramel, toffee, butterscotch, some cherry and red fruits, light herbal notes. Flavour is moderate sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Not a bad beer, not a good beer. I like the fruity touch, but there’s still a malty dullness to it. A small step up from regular Palm though.
2.7 Strong Aroma and taste. The bottle is a regular one making the beer to loose the attention from other beers in the same category.
3.2 Apple pie aroma. Copper body. Sweet malty but a bit watery taste. Apples. Not bad.
3.1 25cl bottle at home.Pours a amber colour with a reddish glo wand a moderate white head on top. Aroma of malt, caramel, slight metallic, slight fruity. 2.9 On tap at Café Refuge, Lier, Belgium, Friday 20th March 2015 Pours amber, very lively with a huge frothy sticky white head. A fairly safe beer, bit too cold but it’s fine if a little thin. Malty, watery sweetness, some red berries. Ok. A5 A4 T6 P3 Ov11 2.9
3.1 Dark amber with a white head. Nose is cheesy. Body is light, texture thin, carbon high. Taste is sweet with acid tones Palate mostly gives a feeling of herbs and malts with hints of caramel. B@H
2.7 The smell of malt, plum fried. Foam poor. Plum also like taste, but watery, weak bitterness, a little sour and malt. The end like even more watery.
2.6 Keg at Den Engel, Leek. Clear deep amber colour with thick white head. Aroma of caramel, sweet malt and almonds. Taste of caramel, dark fruits and brown sugar. Too cold to get any decent flavours. High carbonation and thin body. Short, metallic finish. Not a good beer.
3.0 *Old rating, 30cl, 6%, best before 13/12/06.
3.2 25cl bottle bb10/2015, AH Gent. Nostalgic rebuy&rerate, taking me back to the adolescent days of weekly "Palm Fridays" and homemade hotdogs. Just like regular Palm, I remember this as being maltier and richer. Aroma of amber malts fresh like cut wood spawns and toasted bread crust, marred by a whiff of macro-metallic chicken broth and sulphur. Made in smaller batches, this beer and style of Spéciale Belge in general has the potential of competing with fragrant franconian Kellers, but alas has been adopted by few brewers & relinquished by many... Taste sees some lemon peel and herbal hop accents pierce through the rich amber malt blanket, conjuring up unripe chestnute and banana before becoming bogged down in a quick and uninspired dry finish, probably the astringent coda of nostalgia. Always up for a revisiting this potentially great beer on draught or in 75cl bottle...
2.6 Bottle. Clear amber with small white head. Some caramel, very light spices and a touch of orange. Light sweet with light bitter finish. Watery. Nothing offensive, but not that good either.
3.0 Pours a nice reddish amber with a thin white head. Hints of caramel and bleach in the aroma, taste is a bit sweet but nice.
2.6 Nice dark caramel color. Bit watery, not a really outspoken flavour. Nothing bad but also nothing special...
