2.7 Poured into a snifter. 2.75 A: Mildly hazed orange amber color. Less than one finger of frothy beige head. Retention is below average and just a few wisps of lacing are left. 3.0 S: Sweet caramel and graininess. Not quite clean as there’s some breadiness in there. Light mineral component. It’s okay, but it needs more malt in there. 3.25 T: Like the nose, lots of caramel and graininess. Bready base with hints of mineral. Mild bitterness. Grassy hops. Better than the taste, but still mediocre. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy and smooth. 3.25 D: It’s okay, but nothing I would pick up again. ★ 645 characters DavoleBomb, Feb 10, 2016
3.2 Charleston, SC - Carolina Ale House - on tap. Dark amber pour, bone colored head, light lace. Neutral aroma, hint of malt. Balanced flavor, light citrus bittersweet, sweet caramel. Nuttiness, smooth mouthfeel.
3.0 Pours a deep coppery brown from bottle. Caramel malts, a bit imbalance , pretty standard amber a
3.1 Pours a deep copper with barely any head. Some malty aromas in the nose but faint. Flavor is filled with malty sweetness and it lingers in the aftertaste. Not bad, one of the better offerings from Palmetto.
3.0 Pours a clear Amber with a white head. Aromas of malt and caramel. Flavor is the same with some hop flavor. Not to bad.
2.8 Draft at Palmetto, May 2015. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (apricot, orange), with notes of diacetyl and toffee. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Has potential to be quite nice but this batch was partly ruined by diacetyl.
3.3 Medium brown with an off-white head. Faint hop aroma. Rich caramel sweetness. Balanced hop bitterness. Lingering finish.
3.0 12 oz bottle into a snifter. This is a solid, but quite average and unremarkable amber ale, It does lean a tiny bit towards the hoppier and less sweet side of the amber ale.spectrum. Even the appearance is average in terms of color, head, and clarity.
3.0 Not bad for an amber ale. Have certainly had better. Maybe a little nostalgia for my hometown of charleston, SC.
2.7 OK for style. Some light hops and coppery aroma. Amber pour. Light bitter finish with some mash malt. Bottle at beach near Charleston.
3.5 Pours a nearly clear amber with a nice garnet hue. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Very light nose of malt and a hint of herbal hops. Heavy light body that has moments of a smooth texture. Slightly above normal carbonation with a nice bit of effervescence in the middle and a solid burst in the finish. The flavor profile is intense, slightly complex and somewhat balanced. It begins with moderate herbal hop flavor over a weak sweetness that falls short of providing balance or complexity. The middle effervesces into a mild herbal bitterness. The finish is a slow herbal bitterness fade that is somewhat dry. If only it had tasted as good as it looked.
2.2 Sampled on tap at the brewery, pours a clear amber with some ringing, cream colored head. Nose is meh, some soggy cracker, some malt, a little wet dog. Flavor is the same, crackers, mild apple, soggy bread. A bit sweet too. Watery finish.
2.8 12 oz bottle thanks to my buddy Matt B. In his recent SC trip. The color is a clear Amber with quickly disappearing head leaving little in the glass. Aroma is toasted malt and traces of grain. Lighter in body (borderline watery) with a lower carbonation level. Like most Amber ales the flavor just doesn’t have much going on. This one has a toasted grain base with caramel/ butterscotch hint. Bitterness is very weak without any hop flavor, just simply bitter. Nothing against this brew per say but it’s the style itself I find boring and completely uninteresting at this point.
3.5 Tap@The Swamp Fox, Charleston. Amber beer with a strong slightly off white head. The aroma is hoppy with some yeastiness and cocoa elements, and the flavour is oaty malty with hops and roasted bitterness. Overall a nice Amber ale.
2.5 Fairly middle of the road beer. Nothing special but at the same time it isnt anything to chase you away, Nothing great but nothing bad.
2.4 12 oz. bottle from my father-in-law. Pours a clear amber color with a finger of off-white head that lasts quite a while. Good amber malt nose, but the flavor is reminiscent of wet dog - if that makes any sense. Notes of grass and straw in there, too. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a damp, earthy, offputting mouthfeel. Not as dreadful as I make it sound, but still pretty bad.
3.5 Bottle at jaspers porch in ridgeland, SC. Pours a copper, amber color with a light khaki head. aroma is rich, sweet malt and light hops. Light bitterness in the flavor and a nice, hearty dose of malt. Oily, light body. Very nice. Could use a touch more body in my opinion but still very good.
3.5 A quite decent amber ale. good hop and malt flavours. bottle in hymans seafood restaurant, Charleston.
3.1 Palmetto Amber poured in a pint glass, had great color and a very inviting aroma. the taste was stronger than anticipated for this amber. It had a very strong aftertaste that I would characterize this beer as a sipping beer vice the "cold one" after cutting the grass. Once you took the first sip you could tell this was a well crafted brew. After the third sip the initial strength of the brew became very palatable. This would be a great beer to have with a dinner.
3.0 Pours an amber color with a small canvas colored head. Notes of dirt, metal, muted earthy hops, orange citrus, and sweet bread.
2.9 Pours amber with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet malt, and slight hop bitterness, pine. Taste is bitter and malty. Very balanced just not a lot going on.
2.7 On tap at the King Charles Inn. It poured a slightly hazy amber color with a small white head. The aroma was moderately sweet, with bready malts and light floral hops. The taste was of mild caramel malts, bready, and a slight bitterness to the finish.
2.8 Tastes a lot like a pale ale but with less of a bite. Has a very smokey taste as you drink it. I didn’t really taste any amber notes or at least it’s a different type of amber than I am used to. Overall drinkable but not something I would have again.
2.3 Very mild smell, hoppy bitter taste, more than the maltiness which leaves you with a slightly sweet finish..x2
3.0 12 FL oz. Pours a dark copper with a one finger, off white head. Slight sediment throughout. Aroma has faint notes of bread, citrus, and caramel. Smells alright. Taste starts out with a nice bit of caramel but ends with a harsh bitter finish and aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Overall this could be better. Ok flavours but I can’t get past the harshness of the bittering.
3.5 Well as I've decided that I'm giving up beer for Lent this year, this may be my last beer and my last beer review for a while. I think I made a wise choice going local for this last hurrah with Palmetto's Amber Ale. A refreshing and drinkable brew, pours a pleasant clear amber with lots of natural foam and lacing. Has an appetizing caramel malt aroma. Taste is malty and finishes with a mildly-earthy bitterness. Subtle dark chocolate flavor if you look for it. Strikes me as very "fresh" tasting. Solid bitterness but not really hoppiness, almost tastes more like a brown ale. Very pleasant, I am impressed overall. South Carolina needs more quality local brews like this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
3.0 Pours almost clear dark amber, off white head. Smell is caramel malts, slight fruity, bready. Taste is mild bitter, hints of citrus, bready, caramel. Eh.
2.9 At the club before dinner. draft. Light orange, too cold for much aroma but bread dominated. Quite smooth, similar to a Sam Boston Lager but less hop. Overall solid. Nothing too complex.
3.6 Draught at Flatbread, Hilton Head Island. Good, refreshing amber with a nice, short finish. -via BBapp
3.9 A: Hazy Amber/mild Golden Straw hue, creamy Off White Head, Great Lacing S: Very Malty, mild Citrus, mild Chocolate T: Smooth, Malty, mildly Sweet, Raisins M: Well Carbonated, Medium Bodied, Dry, Malty Sweetness coating Overall, probably one of the smoothest and great tasting amber ales I have had in quite a long time. I look forward to trying some of their other offerings.
