Parallel 49 Salty Scot

Parallel 49 Salty Scot

We put the kettle on for a long boil and this Scottish wee heavy is what we got. Rich Caramel is complemented by sea salt for a complex intense flavour. Another? Aye

3.6 can @ Calandro’s / Baton Rouge LA --- Aroma of caramel malt. Hazy amber brown, beige head that sticks at a thick cover, hanging lace strands. Taste is malt, medium fizz, light hops, and then a gradual move toward sweet caramel as it moves through a long finish. Slight dip back to bitter at the very end. Maybe a little too sweet, but complex and easy to drink.
3.5 650ml bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with red hue and a small, creamy, short lived, beige head that leaves spotty lacing. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, toffee and vanilla. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, toffee, butterscotch, vanilla, light roast, chocolate and a hint of salt in a dry finish. Medium body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Nice.
3.2 12oz can from Xroads. Poured a clear mahogany body under a dense super light beige creamy head. Aroma is meh....notes of brown paper bag, dry caramel, sea salt, grainy chocolate malts. Flavor is all that plus earth, peat and a touch of older rotten banana. Medium body at best with stingy carbonation and a quicker fading aftertaste.
3.5 Decent looking caramel colored beer with a thin tan head. Sweet nose of salted caramel, vanilla, and toffee--it smells like candy. Flavor is semi-sweet, but not over-powering, with salted caramel, toffee, and butterscotch finished with a hint of smoky bitterness. Definitely enjoyable brown ale.
3.4 Can from Taniguchi. A sea salted caramel version of a scotch ale that fills my thistle glass with amber brown goodness. The light beige heads doesn’t linger but does leave a ring of film behind. The aroma is syrupy caramel, bread pudding and salt. Medium to full bodied with a sharp burnt toffee caramel then a mouth-smacking salt edge melding into chocolate notes. This pretty much nails salted caramel with charred/burnt accents but it feels like it’s a touch cloying or artificial. Yep, I just checked the label and the salt is real but the caramel flavor is fake... well from some kind of concentrate. Shame but it’s still a pretty good brew. It definitely reminds me of a bunch of other of these "food" type brews but I can’t recall which one, maybe one of those Rogue voodoo donuts ones?
3.9 Tap at Wiz. Aroma is big caramel. But not overly sweet. Bit of cocoa powder. Taste is good. Caramel of course, can’t quite get the saltiness, but there’s definitely a little bite to it. Nice.
2.9 Pours brown with a compact head; aromas of burnt caramel; medium bodied with a sweet palate.
3.6 650 ml bottle poured at home. Pours red with a beige head. Good lacing. Smells strongly of malt. Taste is sweet with a malty and toffee or caramel like flavour. It’s too sweet, almost cloying. For what it’s going for it works, but I personally don’t care too much for it.
3.6 Pours a red/brown. Aromas of dark roasted malt and fruity aroma sweet, malty flavors with a hint of smoke. Finishes with a touch of dry bite.
3.5 Can from The Beerhive. Clear amber body with a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of salted caramel, sugary tea and toffee. Flavour of stewed apple, brown sugar and fig. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Lively fizz. Very sweet and flavoursome.
2.6 So you think B.C. will do it now that D.V. has waxed his wife? Haven’t seen this in ages, not sure yet. HEad is okay on this thing, dark copper body, aroma of that bad dark lager you got from the guy in front of the liquor store when you were 16. When getting shitfaced was considered cultural, when the Railway Club was still a thing, instead of another Asian condo development. But that’s Vancouver and that’s why we drink, eh? This is like sucking down a liquified bag of Christmas chocolates from Purdy’s holee wow this is sweet, like Oakridge mall’s chocolate store and liquor store put all their stock in a blender and sold the result in bottles. Super cloying, maybe good for a dark dreary Vancouver winter night but this is harsh stuff that needs serious sipping to appreciate.
3.4 Can from dregs run. Pours clear deep amber. Charred wood, burnt toffee, butterscotch. Maple syrup, redcurrants, dry finish.

3.5 Can at home. Was hoping for better from my homeland. The sweetness of the scotch ale somewhat tempered by subtle salty notes. Changed a lot as it warmed up and had a strange metallic finish. Bread notes, caramel and dried fruit. Somewhat thin bodied. Average.

3.4 Sample 1/16/16 (Binnys Downers Grove)-Pours copper with a small head. Aroma of caramel, salt, and malt. Taste of the same with a bunch more caramel and salt. This medium to full bodied brew is quite tasty.
2.6 Meh was ok not super exciting and not as salty as I would have hoped but still ok.
3.4 Bad can. Clear, dark tea color with a big fluffy khaki head. Sweet, peaty, fruity aroma with some acidity and toffee. Sweet, fruity, plummy, mossy, a bit boozy. Faint chocolaty notes. Finishes with a growing sweetness and a building toffee/burnt sugar body. ABC Liquors, Bull Run.
3.2 light brown color. Very sweet malty. The mouth has a whallop of caramel, cherries and lacks pettiness. Not a scotch ale. With some cherries in the finish. Ok but directionless
3.7 12 oz can. Deep amber colored body with excellent clarity and a good head. Sweet aroma features caramel and vanilla. The flavor follows. sweet but not cloying. Medium carbonation with near medium body. Overall: very drinkable. Should be an excellent dessert beer. /recommended.
