Paulaner Salvator

The Paulaner Salvator with its strong,typically malty taste is the original Paulaner. The bottom-fermented Doppelbock-Bier unites the finest hops and dark barley malt. The Paulaner monks served Salvator as a replacement for food at Lent. Their most famous brewer was Brother Barnabas, who was the head of the Paulaner monastery brewery starting from 1773. Its original recipe is today almost the same as it was in Barnabas’ time. In order to protect the original recipe, Paulaner had the trade mark "Salvator" patented in 1896.

3.2 Mi to piwo nie podeszło - mdłe i bez charakteru.

4.5 Das erste ...ator Erst beim Studium des Biers war mir bekannt, dass der Salvator das erste Bier von Paulaner war. Bisher hätte ich auf das Hefeweizen getippt. Der Geruch nach Röstaromen und vor allem Karamell zeigt wo es langgeht. Espresso hält sich im Hintergrund. Die dunkelbraune Farbe geht ins Rötliche. Bei mir ist der Schaum schnell zusammengefallen, anders als bei anderen Rezensionen. War mein Glas nicht sauber? Im Antrunk kommt Karamell und Malz voll zur Geltung. Beim Abgang kommen die Röstaromen , Kaffee und Brot. Bei so dominanten Aromen sucht man den Hopfen vergebens. Kein Wunder : auf der Zutatenliste steht er hinter der Hefe! Die Rezenz ist erwartungsgemäß gering. Bestimmt gibt es geschmacklich intensivere oder hochprozentigere Doppelböcke. Dieser hier ist jedoch sehr ausgeglichen und präsentiert in Antrunk und Abgang abwechslungsreiche Geschmackserlebnisse. 08-2018

3.9 330 ml bottle. Pours amber with tall, long lasting, fluffy off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of bready malt, grassy hops and caramel. Body is full, creamy and slightly crisp. Taste is of caramel malt, herbal hops, spices, hint of cherries and honey. Finish is long, dry and spicy. Nice brew.

3.7 Amber colour with medium beige head. Aroma of caramel, coffee, nuts, nutella, dried cherries. Taste follows the same pattern of nuts, caramel, hint of coffee and dried red fruits. Nice doppelbock.

3.4 Pours dark red to light brown, translucent red if seen through light. Average sized slightly off-white head, recedes quite quickly leaving minimal lacing. A rather potent and decently complex aroma: dark/brown bread, slight roasted hints (halfway between coffe grains and 'dusty'), slight chocolate, dried/dark fruitiness; with a light warming feel underneath. Taste feels probably sweeter than the smell suggested. The maltiness feels much less roasted and much more caramelish, with a bit of cola-like feel underneath. Notes of brown sugar, slight chocolate, fruitiness. Quite sweet in both and aftertaste, but not overwhlemingly so. A quite vivid warming feel, with maybe the slightest alcohol perception. Medium body (quite lighter than expected for the abv), with light to medium carbonation, a quite easy per style mouthfeel, but still able to provide a bit of creaminess. Nice overall.

3.0 Nalewa się ciemny złoty, wpadający w jasny rubin, słbiutka piana. W zapachu mocno melano, wpadające w lekki miód, chleb może lekko jakieś rodzynki. W smaku już lgorzej lekko papierowe, miodowe, jakby utlenione, finisz taki płaski, męczące na dłuższą mete, nawet lekko alkoholowe.

3.5 Bottle from HOTM. Amber colour with a thin head. Aroma and taste are malty sweet and caramel. Medium body.

3.7 Amber/copper color with a quickly dissolving white head. Medium body, low to medium carbonation, no lacing. Barrel-aged aroma of dark fruits, malts, biscuits, cherries, brandy, honey, some toffee, brown sugar, treacle and herbs. Taste of caramel, malts, bread, dry wine, dried fruits, some banana and herbs. A bit oily. Pretty good doppelbock!

3.8 De plus en plus je me dis que la brasserie Paulaner est ma préférée, car je n'ai jusqu'ici jamais été déçu. C'est encore le cas avec cette excellente doppelbock, agréable en bouche, maltée, et se buvant facilement malgré le pourcentage d'alcool.

3.8 Klasyka gatunku. Jest słód, karmel, suszone owoce, melanoidyny, lekka, ziołowa goryczka. Pełne, nieco słodkie, wysycenie średnie. Dobre.

3.6 Bottled, 330ml from Kay Fee's Off Licence, Didcot, Oxon. Amber with off white head. This proved to be a rich, malty beer from the off. There are quite toasty flavours, hints of rye bread, some nutty notes, rich dryish caramel flavours. Pleasantly full on the palate with a hint of alcohol. Really decent beer.

4.7 Optisch wunderschön klar kupferfarben mit ansehnlicher feiner Perlage. Die leicht bräunliche feinporige Schaumkrone zeigt sich wässerig-flaumig und wenig beständig. Sehr röstige und karamellige Malzaromatik in der Nase. Dazu süßlich-fruchtiges Dörrobst (Marille, Pflaume, Sultanine) mit einer schönen Holznote. Der Antrunk wirkt angenehm spritzig und trotz der breiten, leicht süßlich-röstigen und holzigen Aromatik ziemlich frisch und leicht. Am Gaumen macht sich eine leicht wärmende und unglaublich ausgewogene Aromatik mit wunderbaren Aromen von süßlichem, karamelligen bis kräftigem Röstmalz, fruchtigem Dörrobst, einer schönen kastanienartigen Holzigkeit und leichter kräuterartigen Würze. Eine ziemlich komplexe und dennoch harmonische Angelegenheit, der man seine 7,9 % Alkohol überhaupt nicht anmerkt. Man spürt zwar die Kraft, die in diesem Sud steckt, aber in keiner Phase des Trinkverlaufs stolpert man über alkoholische oder gar spritige Aromen. Einfach wunderbar! Das Mundgefühl ist bemerkenswert. Süffigkeit sollte bei so einem Bier eigentlich kein Thema sein, aber ja, es lässt sich überraschend gut trinken! Im Abgang bleibt minutenlang eine leicht holzige, süßlich-herbe Röstaromatik stehen. Einfach wunderbar! Erst sehr sehr spät mischt sich eine röstigere Herbe dazu. In seiner ganzen Art und Weise ein unglaublich tolles Bier, welches sich ungeniert zur Riege der außergewöhnlichen Biere zählen darf!

4.0 Aroma: Bread, caramel, malt, toast. Somewhat fruity, a touch of chocolate. Some corn. Appearance: Clear brown, small white head. Taste: Sweetish with decent bitterness. Palate: Quite full, average carbonation. Overall: Very good, classic example of a Doppelbock.

3.5 500ml dark glass bottle from HoTM online order. Dated as best before 12/2021 and served into a stein having been out of refrigeration for around an hour before pouring. The beer pours a dark caramel body, some mahogany tints. A small smokers white head that dissipates quickly to inconsistent patches. More aggressive micro carbonation than I was expecting. On aroma the beer appears world beating. Heavy dark roasted malt, caramel, molasses, dark dried fruit, dark rye bread, nuttiness and spice. Deep and enticing. In the mouth the beer is a little more subdued after the aromatic build up. A nice toasted dark malt bread, dark caramel and some dried dark fruit. Definitely not the depth I longevity I was expecting. Tasty but short. A good mouthfeel but very short aftertaste. Some malt with a very low alcohol burn. The morning after and I can’t remember anything on the palate. Very easy to drink for the ABV. Overall, very drinkable good beer but not at the depth of flavour or afters I was expecting.

3.7 The original Paulaner! Dark, strong with loads of malt and honey and tons of caramel.

3.4 Smell-weak malt, weak roast. Foam- thin, malty, weak roast, faint caramel and more malt. Head is medium-sized, white-brown-orange color. Sticks a bit. Appearance- brewer bottle cap, somewhat simple label, bottle unique to the brewer. Clear, orange-brown amber, medium to high carbonation. From-pint Taste-malty, roast, caramel, a bit of sweetness, then some bitterness. Actually, quite nice.

3.8 Thuis uit een halve liter fles. Donkere amber kleur, weinig schuim. Caramel in het aroma. Smaak licht zoet, redelijk vol.

4.6 En apariencia nos encontramos con un color ámbar oscuro pero brillante (es de baja fermentación) tiene una corona de espuma beige de suave textura y persistente. Cuando la pruebas es predominante su sabor a malta, se sienten los sabores acaramelados y tostados productos de la reacción de Maillard, tiene unas ligeras notas a chocolate, a especias y a ciruelas o uvas pasas de los lúpulos (Hercules y Hallertauer Tradition), la sensación suave y tibia del alcohol está presente. En boca tiene un cuerpo pleno con una carbonatación media-alta, se siente la tibieza por sus 7.9% ABV pero no llega a ser quemante está muy bien balanceada, en el retrogusto te deja un poco el amargo de los lúpulos que combina perfectamente con los sabores dulces de las maltas.

3.9 Color cobre, no es turbia, espuma gruesa media y de media duración. Olor a caramelo, ciruela. Sabor a caramelo, ciruela, es dulce, es carbonatada. No es aguada. Es bien rica. Se me puede parecer a una Belgian Dark Strong Ale, pero mas dulce y menos alcoholica.

3.6 Barwa ciemnobursztynowa, spora piana, kremowa. W aromacie ciemne słody, skórka chlebowa, lekkie rodzynki. W smaku przyjemnie, dobre suszone owoce i dochodzi fajny karmel. Naprawdę smaczne piwo.

3.7 The original Doppelbock supposedly. 500 ml bottle from the local German supermarket. Pours a nice reddish amber with little head. Aroma of roasted malt, lots of plum, raisin, grape. Malty, rich, alcoholic, perhaps a tinge of chocolate; reminiscent of stone fruit. Thick and alcoholic mouthfeel and low carbonation. Pretty impressive and good to have every now and then.

4.3 Terrific! Sweet, rich, malty beer with toasty and caramel rich flavors. It makes me think of rich bready malt. There’s a sweet, nutty pecan character that lingers. Medium carbonation, full body, and nice finish.
