Pauwel Kwak

Pauwel Kwak

Bottle & keg: Filtered

Ingredients: Barley malts, mineral water, wheat, hops and white candy sugar.

Created in the 1980s, and named after an 18th century brewer and innkeeper, Pauwel Kwak, who apparantly developed a shorter version of the traditional English long stirrup glass (which developed into the yard of ale), for coachmen to use.

Kwak is served with respect for tradition in its own Kwak glass. Recognisable, special and just as idiosyncratic as the taste of the beer itself.

3.4 750 ml bottle pours an amber color with a small white head. Aromas of roasted malt, yeast, light caramel. Medium bodied, nicely balanced, a great beer.

3.7 11.2 ounce bottle at the Winking Lizard in Copley, Ohio Light sweet aroma. Clear light brown in color thin white head. Tastes sweet with malt and some yeast. Very smooth and powerful. 8.4 percent alcohol and well hidden. Lovely aftertaste of sweetness. Just a wonderful beer. Cheers!
5.0 Very special taste and smell very good
3.5 Tasty malty ale with a nice sweet bready finish really enjoyable good beer
3.6 Aroma of yeast, caramel, apples and pear. Taste: caramel, malts, dark bread, plum, coriander accentuated by strong spicy notes that dominate over the sugary components in its core palette. Medium to thin body with average carbonation.
3.8 Hadn't seen this one for years, and then it showed up at a Liquor Mountain store. Nice dark amber color with a thick off-white head. The aroma features a musty fruitiness, with grapes, apple, and some pear. The flavors have a rounded fruitiness. The malty initial is replaced by a pleasant taste of pear and apple. Nice palate changes. A refreshing Belgian ale. Watch my YouTube review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRKURz8xExs
3.5 Bought at Liquor Shed. The stamp looks like 03/12/2022 so not exactly fresh. (December 3rd best before date) Beautiful clear copper colour, lively head of foam, awesome lacing. I get caramel malt, spice, banana, more spice..coriander, very light bitterness. Taste is malty but not really sweet, spicy, banana, coriander, the sweetest part of this beer is in the finish. Slightly astringent, probably because it is fairly close to the best before date. Fullish body and the alcohol is hidden pretty well. The last time I had one of these, there were a ton of corn flake like floaties and that ended up being drain poured. Certainly not a go to for me but I am glad that I gave it another chance.
3.0 Taste / aroma of malt, hops, black village bread. Bitterish sweet. Not a bad beer, actually good but anyway what makes belgium beers soooo special that they are so expensive compared to most other beers?
3.6 Hazy amber. Aroma is malt cookie dough yeast. Taste is sweet caramel with bitter yeasty spices. Quite intense and a little boozy. Ok.
3.6 Aroma is yeasty, malts, caramels, hoppy notes Beautiful glass. Dark brown colour with big head Taste is yeasty, malty, caramel, prunes, plums Low carbonation with smooth mouthfeel Decent Tasted at affligem cafe

3.8 33cl fles. Helder amber van kleur, fijne romige witte schuimkraag. De geur is karamel en gist. Smaak is zoet, banaan, karamel en gist. Medium body en veel koolzuur.
4.0 Clear amber colour with very short head. Smell of barley malt and dried fruits, like dades and raisins along with a little acid. Taste of barley malt, banana, abricot, dried fruits and figues. Really nice and tasted on vacation with S. But in Colruyt supermarket in Jura, France.
3.8 Bottle from Eltham Wines. Amber pour with a white head. Aromas of dried fruit, citric peel, toffee, banana. Flavours of banana toffee, dried fruit, apricot, kumquat, touch of vanilla. Sweet malty finish.
3.6 Clear amber color with foamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet with fruits, yeast, hint of spices. Taste is also sweet with fruity notes, banana, raisins and toffee. Finishes with mild spices. Medium+ body, average carbonation. Nice classic belgian ale
3.5 Pours clear amber with medium head. Sweet and malty, molasses, berries, mild hop bitterness. Medium body and soft carbonation.
3.6 How: bottle. A bit chilled. BB: 02.10.2023 Head: two fingers, white. Colour: amber, clear. Aroma: sweet rye bread, dark fruits with hints of red berries, spicy. Taste: thin to medium body, lively carbonation, spicy, rye bread, syrup, quite dry mouthfeel. A bit warm. Medium to long aftertaste like initial taste.
4.1 I næsen underligt duft men smagen er fantastisk god øl. Sødme og let bitterhed.
5.0 Smooth dark brown belgian
4.1 Clear amber color with little to no head from my bottle. Banana and biscuit aroma and flavor. Nice spice and malt balanced by nice hop profile. Seems like a combination of a dubbel and dunkel weissbier. Low carbonation with slight sweet finish.
3.5 The legend that is Kwak, albeit not served in the famous rack & bulbous glass combination! Hazy/cloudy pale amber with a frothy white head and a sweet and yeasty aroma. It's a sweet, fruity and syrupy concoction, with a slighty musty character to it, it's also a warming, comfortable beer that goes down very smoothly (considering its ABV)
3.8 330ml bottle brewed in Belgium at 8.4%. Clear dark copper-amber with a Belgian 50/50 head, so-so duration. Leafy hedgerow and light toffee-raisin aroma, very lightly toasted bread malt. Could be taken for an English strong ale if it didn't have very faint suggestions of banana and clove. Modest carbonation, rounded chunky body. Initial toffee chewiness. Milk chocolate and leafy juicy raisin finish, very low bitterness. Mellow bready malt throughout. Whispers of banana and raisin juice in the aftertaste. This is evidently mass-produced to high heavens, but is certainly tasty - the smoothness gives it an air of luxury, but connoisseurs of Belgian beer can see the rounded edges as the loss of granularity that they are. Still, this would be a fine introduction to the style - and there's nothing wrong with easy-drinking comfort beer, perhaps even more so at this ABV. Just be careful not to get carried away with how readily this slips down!
3.6 Dark amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, yeast, toffee, & dark fruit; Flavor of slight sweet bready malt, yeast, caramel, dark fruit, and some spice; Nicely balanced; Solid Belgium ale.
4.0 Piwo w kolorze ciemnej herbaty klarowne z niezłą pianą. Aromat owoców, głównie suszonych, trochę wanilii i karmelu. W smaku lekko słodkie, estrowe jak typowe mocne belgijskie piwa
2.2 Cerveja belga, algo doce e tostada. Copo engraçado 🇧🇪
