Peak Organic Espresso Amber Ale

Peak Organic Espresso Amber Ale

A robust amber ale brewed with locally roasted, organic fair trade espresso. The espresso is a dark Sumatran blend, which adds a toasty character in the front palate. This plays nicely off the sweet malty flavors found on the back palate of this amber ale.

* Espresso is Maine roasted in collaboration with local hand-crafted roaster Coffee by Design in Portland.
* In partnership with Transfair, a non-profit that works towards giving farmers and farm workers a livable wage and supporting efforts to sustain environmental stewardship in the communities.
* This is the first Fair Trade Certified™ beer brewed in the United States.

2.9 BeerAdvent 2013 Day... Thirteen. Pours translucent deep amber off-white dissipating head. Nose is berry, caramel malt, paper, earthy coffee, earthy hops (hard to know the boundary between the two). Flavour is the same with the dirty Sumatran really kicking in mid-palate. The finish doesn’t clash but certainly swirls between the beer and coffee. Combining a pale ale with coffee always seems brazen to me, and I thought Sumatran wouldn’t work because it has such a distinctive dirty taste, but they’ve managed to pull it off. Not something I’d go out of the way for, but an impressive curiosity (notwithstanding the oxidization).
3.8 Advent Calendar. And, finally, one that is good. Actually, quite good. Excellent espresso flavour, nicely balanced. Reminds me of a lighter (in body) version of Yukon’s Espresso Stout.
3.6 12oz brown bottle. Red-brown in colour, thin whitish head. Big coffee nose with toffee sweetness. Taste of earth, coffee and chocolate. Finish has bitter coffee and earth and light hop tones. Light to medium bodied, well carbonated. A pleasant brew, nice twist to an amber ale with the coffee kick and extra abv.
3.6 Light amber and clear. Nice nutty coffee aroma. Taste is sweet with a bitter coffee, nuts and caramel. Interesting and enjoyable beer.
4.0 Aroma is of coffee, malts, earth. Tastes of malts and toast with bold espresso flavors warming the mouth after. A beautiful, well balanced beer. Sumatra is one of my favorite types of coffee so that was a really nice nice bonus for taste and palate points.
2.7 A hazy copper brown color, not much for aroma, maybe subtle coffee notes. Taste has the coffee real subtle in the background which is nice for an amber. Some toffee and chocolate and biscuit as well. Maybe subtle licorice and some cardboard as well. Not impressed with this amber.
3.9 CBAC day 13. Pours a clear amber color with a nice frothy and lacey brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, toffee, chocolate and tequila/alcohol. Flavor is coffee, light roasted malt, toffee, chocolate and a light bit of nuttiness. Overall this is a really well balanced coffee beer that has lots of flavor.
3.1 Advent but forgot if 12 or 13. Dark amber with a light head. Aroma of a strong ale, a bit of molasses or toffee and alcohol. Flavour is coffee, roots and a metallic amber ale. Seems like a mix of beers rather than a real coming together of flavours. Kind of a winter warmer.
3.5 Pours a deep, hazy amber. Aroma is espresso, caramel malts, nuts. Flavour brings out sweet malts with some fruit, and espresso. Finishing with a subtle bitterness. A bit medicinal on the finish.
3.3 355ml bottle pours amber in color with a small off-white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is coffee with some caramel, chocolate and cereal grains. Taste is a coffee with citrus hop bitterness and a light chocolate, caramel malty sweetness. Medium body with average carbonation. An interesting amber ale with the addition of coffee. I am not a big fan of coffee, but this brew is pretty decent.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a brigh lt but dark brown color. Taste is an amber roasty coffee like taste with a flavorful backbone of malts and sugar . Very good and drinkable from a brewery I usually don't care for
3.8 Hazy brown, small, off-white head. Caramel, coffee aroma. Bitter coffee..earthy/leafy flavor.... Sweet, with a steadily increasing coffee bitter. Excellent stuff.
3.6 May 2012. From bottle. Dark amber color with an offwhite head. Caramel, sweet malt and a bit of coffee aromas. Smooth mouthfeel, good balance. Caramel flavors, sweet at first, then finishes slightly bitter.
3.9 Bottle. Earthy coffee grounds and caramel malt aroma. Amber with small head. Sweet creamy coffee malt and mildly bitter herbal flavor. Very tasty - great breakfast beer.
3.5 Bottle. Caramel, chocolate, light coffee aroma. Deep amber with a large beige head. Roasty, slightly sweet caramel malt, and coffee flavor with a roasty bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.2 22oz bomber. Pours a clear rust color with a nice fluffy off white head. Aroma of mainly caramel malt and coffee. Taste of caramel malt, bitter coffee, and more caramel.
4.7 The beer tasted delicious. If you’re a big coffee drinker, I definitely would suggest this beer. Good flavor and not too strong.
3.8 Tap at the Ginger Man, NYC, 18/05/13. Clear chestnut brown with a thin beige head. Nose is tiramisu, sugars, caramel, hops, biscuit notes. Taste comprises espresso coffee, malt, biscuit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dryish finish. Good stuff - how to make an amber ale tasty and interesting, coffee it up !
3.2 Bottle. This is the best brew out of Peak (shipyard possibly) in my opinion. The coffee layers nicely over the medium body and malt profile.
2.2 Hoppy, which we don’t like with a dusty dirty taste laid over the top. Rather yuck to be honest.
3.8 Aroma: Slightly malty and you can pick up the coffee after drinking a few sips Appearance: Amber-translucent brown with white head Taste: Amaretto liquor with just the right balance of coffee flavor-robust but not too power since this is an amber not a stout and thus risks being overwhelmed. Not a lot of complexity in the body. Overall: Most of the coffee infused beers you’ll find are stouts so to found a coffee amber is quite rare. Very drinkable and a good find for coffee lovers.
3.1 Nice beer not for everyone. Notes of dark roast coffee on nose nice amber color finishes smoothly with no funky aftertaste. Pretty good overall give it a try. Coming soon to the Lionheart pub Albany NY
3.3 Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 2/17/13 Aroma: The nose is mostly espresso/coffee, with some caramel malts, and mild earth Appearance: This one pours a murky looking reddish color with a small beige head Flavor: The taste like the nose, is coffee/espresso mostly, with a bitter coffee ground finish Palate: The body is light-medium, it drinks fairly cleanly, has a tingly feel, and a dry, roasty finish Overall Impression: I have mixed feeling on this one. On one hand, it is an interesting beer, but on the other hand it doesn’t quite work. Still though, I like the concept of a coffee beer with an Amber (or other lighter style beer) base is an interesting one, and something I’d like to see another brewery try. Creative, but I like the idea more than the execution.
3.0 220z bomber from Spirits Crossroads. Poured a murky brown with a huge foamy light beige head. Inital aroma was loads of chocolate with light coffee, with some warmth the aroma changes for the worse, notes of green peppers, creme brulee, buterscotch cookies. The body is medium to slightly thin with strong carbonation and a watery feel overall. Flavor of bad coffee, brown bread, slight chocolate, green veggies. Blah.
3.8 Smells and tastes like the perfect mixture of coffee and beer. Great drink to start off the night.
3.0 Pours a deep slightly hazy amber/orange with a huge frothy tan head that takes forever to recede. I can smell the coffee as soon as I pop the top off this bad boy. Holy coffee Batman the closer my nose gets the more intense the aroma. I can find little in the nose other than Java. If only the flavor followed the nose more closely. Lots of coffee flavor but also a bitter buttery earthy mineral flavor kicks in. Medium to thin body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick watery mouthfeel. Sadly this brew is not for me. I generally enjoy the peak products, but not this one.
3.5 Great beer with a lot of flavor. A creative brew that captures the espresso flavors well.
3.4 Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Coffee, sweet malts, toffee, and some lighter dark chocolate sweetness. Good stuff.
4.3 Pours a dark amber with a moderate head. Has an amazing coffee smell and taste without being overpowering. Very easy on the palate, which was surprising to me. Great brew.
3.3 Strong malt aroma with a very mild amount of coffee. Cloudy dark orange color with medium tan head. Moderate malt and coffee bitterness that builds in the middle and fades in the finish.
