Peak Organic Hop Noir

Peak Organic Hop Noir

Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

3.9 Dark brown, stable beige head, nice. Crusty whole wheat bread, oatmeal, moderate English hops. Taste is much more expressive. Nice proper bitterness. Very much my kind of beer, even though my nose doesn’t quite catch all aromas right now. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)
3.8 Bomber, Trader Joe’s. $4.99 or $5.99, can’t remember. Pours dark brown with a large light brown head. Aroma of pine, caramel, citrus, pineapple. Taste is bitter pine and sweet caramel up front, followed by some citrus and then more sweet caramel. Light coffee in there too, but not strong. Tasty!
3.5 Bottle at home. Aroma is dark malt, coffee, roast, fruity hops, citrus, grapefruit. Flavour is light sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium, a bit weaker than I would expect from the abv. Otherwise a nice Black IPA on the roasty coffee side of the style.
3.3 355ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with ruby red glimmer and average to huge, frothy to macropore, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Piney hoppy aroma, notes of spruce, coniferes in general, hints of woody pineapple, roasty dark malty background. Taste is bitter hoppy, piney, hints of spruce, pineapple, a minimally metallic touch, weak, roasty dark malty basis.
3.7 Dark black body with a thin brown head. Aroma is licorice, roasted. Taste is sweet and medium bitter. Aftertaste is a bit ashy.
3.4 Bottle. Black colour. Aromatic hop aroma. Flavour is burnt citrus, finishes dry with some bitterness.
3.5 Bottle shared at ExABC tasting. Dark brown with off hite head. Burnt malts roasted caramel malts, some cheesiness/onion like hops, yoghurt, vegetal hop bitterness, coffee notes. Nice and bitter with lots of carbonation.
3.5 Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Very dark brown with small beige head. Lots of aromatic hops with lime, lemon peel, marmalade, spring onions, light bitter herbs. Some roasted malts and ash, but the hops are really overtaking the malts here. Light sweet and medium bitter. Medium bodied.
3.4 33lc bottle shared at a tasting. Thin creamy tan head. Clear deep burgundy pour. Nice bitterness. Easy drinking
3.5 Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown color with a slight red glare coming through, medium sized beige head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is indeed dark malts and hops. Taste malts, quite roasty, firm bitterness, bitter hops. Decent body, medium carbonation.
3.0 Bottle from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: deep dark black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: Grassy and vegetal notes. Very hoppy nose. Taste: medium body with roasted malt balanced with grassy hops. Licorice notes. Good attenuation. Good black IPA... Nothing special. Aftertaste: roasted malt and grassy hops. Wet bitterness.
3.6 0,33l fles tijdens poker avond.
3.4 (Peak Organic Hop Noir) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a big tulip, ABV 8.2% Black coloured body, small and thin beige head on top, with average retention. Aroma of citrus, light grapefruti, orange peel, light roasted malts. Taste has some faint hops, light citrus, roasted malts, some metallic notes on the finsih, coffee. Medium thin body, good carbonation. The aroma promised more than the taste could deliver, still nice to drink though.
3.4 Bottle at De Paas. Dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of roast, grapefruit, citrus and grassy notes. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
3.6 35.5cl shared bottle at home from Biernavigatie.nl. Body is clear dark brown, head is big, tan, rocky fizzy, average lasting, good lacing. Nose is light citric, flavor is grapefruit, roasted malt, cocoa, old wood. Medium sweet, medium bitter. Finish is long lasting light roasty medium to heavy hoppy bitter, slightly watery sidetaste. Medium body, thin texture, average carbonation. Easy, quite hoppy, not bad.
3.3 Dark brown color with light brown head. Aroma is somehow herbal, like some sort of plant extract. Taste is a bit smokey, dusty, slightly sweet and roasty at first but gets bitter on the finish and lingers in the aftertaste. Body is quite light and well carbonated. Alcohol is present but I wouldn’t have guessed it’s as strong as it is. It’s ok but I wouldn’t drink it again.
4.0 Bottle: Chuffe glass: Large fluffy creamy beige brown head. Dark brown beer. Aroma is very hoppy with a light dose of roast. Fruity and flowers with citrus and a dark part. Nice! Flavour is also quite hoppy with a subtle roastyness. Good strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with some fruity tones. Good. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, more than just medium bodied. Good stuff!
3.8 Donkere chocolade bruine kleur met een goede bruine kraag. Ruikt fruitig, citrus, hop, beetje chocolade. Smaakt fruitig, hop, chocolade.
3.8 355ml bottle at home. Dark brown with a medium beige head. Medium body with low to moderate carbonation. Nice well balanced brew with medium bitterness and subtle sweetness. Roasted malts, pine, coffee, raisins and caramel. Tasty BIPA!
3.8 Pours a rich dark brown with a small head, but the head is pretty dense. Aroma of floral hops and citrus. Flavor is more stout than IPA. Roasty and sweet at first with a nice hop kick on the back end. Definitely lots of roasted grains in this one. Very smooth in the mouth and I would not have guessed that this beer is 8.2% ABV. Pretty good if you are looking for a black IPA that is farther toward the stout end of the spectrum.
3.8 35 cl bottle in NY. Dark brown color, thick creamy brownish head, strong hoppy nose. Aroma resempbles an IPA with grapefruit, caramel and spices, backed by a dark toasted presence. Strong hops completes the picture. Body is full, thick texture, heavy one. A shot in the dark.
3.1 Draft->shaker. Deep brown with moderate tan head. Chocolate and roasted malts with some earthy and citrus hop notes in a messy combination. More of a porter than a black IPA, and not well executed.
3.4 Pours almost black. Frothy tan head. Moderate lacing. Nose is mildly hoppy; citrus notes. Taste is on the bitter side, but some orangey citrus sweetness comes through. Medium body. Lively carbonation. Good brew.
3.5 Bottle at Basque, Gothenburg.. Deep amber beer with a beige head. Chocolate and hoppy aroma with grassy notes. Hoppy and fruity flavour with some metallic hints.
3.5 22oz bomber: this one pours a dark chocolate brown color. There was about a finger of a tan head on it that didn’t linger long. It has a surprisingly lighter nose. Malts, but not much sweetness at all. Perhaps a bit of chocolate roast and pine. It tastes OK, but I’m not sure why they call it a black IPA. Almost no bitterness to it. There is a good malt body, with some chocolate and roasted notes trying to peak thru but no real sweetness either. It needs a whole lot more hops to be in an IPA category. Let’s just call it a very good strong porter.
3.6 From notes sampled 4/16/2011 Pours a pretty solid black color with a creamy frothy khaki head that just wont quit. Spicy resinous pine mixed with hints of roast and a slight mineral/earthiness. This on fills my taste buds with and enormous resinous hop bite. Hints of roasty coffee break through and mix with the resinous hops, like drinking coffee out of the bong pipe. Bone dry finish with long lingering hoppy roasty aftertaste. Medium level of carbonation, medium body, slick resinous mouthfeel. I enjoyed this. This is another solid brew from a brewery that seems to be finding ways to get out from under the radar.
3.0 Pours well with ruby black hues and generous head. Aroma sweetish toffee, palate dark treacle, hops not bold enough to qualify for IPA status, so maybe not well named. Drinks nicely. Maybe too much time spent making it black rather than a Black IPA
3.0 #21 - pours dark brown, thick tan head, good lacing. Smells of citrus, dates, chocolate, coffee. Taste is more on the malt side, the hop coming through as a bitter effect. A little sweet. Chocolate and sour coffee. More like a porter, but slight bitter finish. Just OK.
3.1 How: Bottle. Where: Basque, Göteborg. Appearance: Dark brow, almost black, colour with a beige head. Aroma: Liquorice, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, citrus. Body: Medium body, low carbonation. Flavour: Roasted malt, chocolate, fruit, citrus.
