Peak Organic Winter Session Ale

Peak Organic Winter Session Ale

This winter wheat beer uses dark malting to provide subtle toasty notes. We then single-hop and dry-hop this beer with Citra hops from our friend Brad’s farm. Interesting pineapple notes from the Citra hop provide a stark contrast to the toasty notes in the body. An engaging and sessionable Winter Seasonal.

2.8 Flaska från Beery Christmas. Bärnstensfärgad med mycket smutsvitt skum. Fruktig och lite syrlig doft. Rejäl beska och inte mycket mer.
2.4 Dry roasted malts and light citra hops clash a little more on my palate than the nose. Maybe in part cause this is a light fizzy beer (not what I want in a winter seasonal - session or not). OK at best.

3.1 Beer of the month club offering. Clear dark amber/brown with a weak one-finger off-white head and minimal lace. Aromas of citrus and pine hops with caramel, toffee, bread, and seasonal spices. Taste is more malt focused then the aroma; mostly bready with a touch of toffee, very little hop flavor or bitterness. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation, smooth mouthfeel and a clean finish.

The beer has a nice reddish brown copper color. The beer is quite clear, with a tiny haziness. On top of the beer a normal layer of offwhite foam is formed. The foam collapses a bit quickly, leaving a nice drape. The smell of the beer is nice. I smell nice average hop aroma’s. I smell nice American hop aromas, which give the beer nice smells of pineapple, some citrus fruits and pine. It is rather sweet and slightly sour, combined with that nice hoppy bitterness. I also smell a nice toasty malt aroma, giving both sweets and bitters. The balance in the smell is nice. The flavour is nice to. I smell nice strong hop flavours, giving pineapple, some citrus and pine. The toasty malt is a bit stronger in the flavour than in the smell. The taste is a bit richer. Strong bitters, sweets and delicate sours are in good balance. Hop and malt flavours support each other nicely. The body of the beer average. The body is medium and the texture is rather smooth. The carbonation is nice and strong. The finish is a bit dry. But all in all, a good beer.
Beery Christmas #22.
3.3 Bottle from Beery Christmas. Reddish amber with a medium off white head. Fruity and hoppy tones. Fruit, hops, malt and bitterness. Medium body with a bitter / fruity finish.
3.5 Hazy maroon, thin beige head. Sweet and malty, dark bread, bit caramel, earthy tones, fruits in background. Crisp feel, light to medium body, dry and gets drier in grapefruit piney finish which is long, bit woody. Beery christmas 22. Nice aroma, ok.
3.6 Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 19A). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch unknown (BBF 30.09.2017). AROMA: medium hop aroma with notes of grapefruit, lime and mild passionfruit. medium-low malt background with a neutral and very faint sweet presence. APPEARANCE: amber color and clear. medium ivory head with good retention. TASTE: medium-low hop flavor with notes of grapefruit. low malty background, somewhat sweet, with a very faint toffee character. medium-high bitterness with an almost dry and bitter finish. PALATE: medium body with moderate carbonation. no astringency. OVERALL: an american amber ale with nice hop character but where the malt is a bit mutted.
3.1 0,355l bottle shared with wiosna @ home. Beery Christmas #22. Pours clear deep amber with a high head. Aroma is malts with some fruits and dough. Flavor is lightly roasted malts with citrus and hops. Citra hops aren’t quite at home here. Drinkable nevertheless.
