Pelican MacPelicans Scottish Style Ale

Pelican MacPelicans Scottish Style Ale

Our interpretation of the Scottish Export style is coppery amber in color and features a mild, malty aroma. The malty flavor is balanced with Willamette hops to add a little "snap" to the flavor and finish of this rich ale.

3.5 080815. Bottle from Wine Emporium. Nice beer for a cool night with a long malt finish. Copper coloured with a fair amount of foam.
2.9 Pours a brownish body with a frothy head. Nose of roasted malt. Flavour is a tad sweet for me. Purchased at Pilgrim’s Market in Coeur d’Alene.
3.3 Bottle. A: Caramel color with a creme color head. N: Toffee, smoke, malt, leather, tobacco. T: Smokey and sweet. M: Light body, fizzy carbonation, no alcohol. O: Good scotch ale. Sweet and smokey. Not too complex, but quaffable.
2.8 I’m not very impressed. Someone from Pelican was offering samples so I bit and long story short, it’s not that great. It’s not bad either, but it is bland, lifeless and uninspiring. The only thing I notice is a slightly bitter aftertaste. Seriously, there just ain’t much going on here. As a Scotsman this disappoints me.
3.2 On tap at the brewery. Pours deep amber with an off-white head. Aroma of pale and caramel and nutty malts plus dough and a faint bitterness. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not bad.
3.3 Randomly enough a bottle from UT state liquor store picked because I wanted a Scottish ale tick. Nice bronze color with a medium, tan head. Light aroma of sweeter caramel malt. Great flavor that balances the malt with a hint of hoppy bitterness. Very pleasant.
3.1 This is our first Scottish Ale of the night. This one is by Pelican. Cheers from Cannery Row Beer Club.
2.4 (Bottle) The worst Scottish ale I’ve had. Cola taste, thin body, astringent aftertaste. This is a very bad beer.
3.6 On tap at Pelican Pub in Pacifc City. Pours a hazy copper with small off white head that lasts. The aroma is bready malt, caramel, nuts. Thin mouth, rich malt, nuts, caramel, raisin, light dryness, good.
3.7 Bottle to mini snifter. pours dark copper to red with a medium of white head that dies quickly to leave nearly nothing. Aroma is sweet and toffee with a slight crusty and bready note. Taste is a mix of hop bitterness with a sweet toffee and caramel back bone. Finish shows just a tad bit of dry roastiness in the very back of the finish. A very faint smokiness or it could be the light chocolate. I’m rather impressed by this one, considering it is typically a less than exciting style.
3.6 Restrained aroma with cloudy copper colour. Flavour is nicely balanced to start and gently gives way to a light bitter finish. An interesting alternative to the regular pale ale.
2.2 Tap at Pelican in Tillamook. Pours clear deep orange with white head. Aroma is caramel, very malt forward... Taste is dirty, a bit thin, low carbonation, medium-bodied. Overall, no good.
2.6 Poured from tap to glass. Golden hue with creamy white head. Aroma is burnt malt, honey, esters, hay. Mouthfeel is ok with a medium body and soft carbonation. Taste is sweet with an astringent following and estery finish. Overall this isn’t that great.
3.9 Draft pour at Bambinos. Pours a dark red color with little to no head. Very mellow tasting scotch ale with some nice, calm malt flavors and some spice. A nice, balancing, yet light hop presence to round of the finish. Nice caramel like flavor throughout as well. Kind of a stand out scotch ale for me. Very tasty and drinkable. Good beer here.
3.1 On tap at the Tillamook location. Pour is clear amber-orange with a small white head and good lacing. Husky, grainy, light caramelly, doughy and toasty aroma. Taste is doughy, cereal, caramel, brown malty, and bready with a touch of earthiness on the backend. Medium body with soft carbonation. Meh.
2.9 At prewpub in Tillamook with Taylor, Stephen, and Dina. Pours darker bronze, clear, no head. Aroma is red malt, amber. Taste is amber malt, slightly dirty.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a mostly clear darker amber color with a somewhat thick light tan head on it. Nose is light but malty, with some subtle bread notes in there, and just a bit of leather. Taste is lightly bitter up front, but has just a hint of sweetness to mellow it out.
3.0 translucent tan, cream ring. Toasty caramel nose, nicely full grain bill. Well rounded grains compliment light dough sweetness front and mid palate, oily and sweet for the finish. Needs less sweetness and more complexity in the grains, less syrup in the body.
3.9 Sweet, toast/bread crust, caramel malt and apple-ish fruity aroma. Sweet and bready malt flavor up front, with lingering caramel. Fruity flavor comes out in aftertaste. 4/2014: Sweet, caramel malt and herbal hop aroma. Sweet, bready malt and fruity yeast flavor.
3.4 22oz bottle at The Bayou Clear amber with a small off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of toasted malts and fruity. Flavors are fruity and caramel Decent
3.1 Draught at the Tap Room in Tillamook. Rich malty nose. Bright reddish/brown color. Rich roast initial / light hopping and a touch of spiciness / spritzy and balanced finish. Okay. True to style and fairly ordinary.
4.0 Bomber from Wine and Beer Haus Seaside, OR. Heavy malt aroma with toffee and caramel notes. Pours copper colored with a decent off-white head and very little lacing. Sweet caramel malt with toffee notes. Finishes smooth and clean. Not a scotch ale per se but still very good.
3.0 Draft - Caramel and dark grains. Clear amber with a thin white head. Taste is very grainy with a bit of caramel. The hops impart a slight bitterness, but overall this beer is very muted and plain.
2.9 Amber, offwhite head. Quite weak aroma with nutty and floral notes. Very weak flavor, some malt and some bubblegum.
3.5 It does not taste distinctly like a Scottish Ale, but my experience with the style is not very extensive.
3.4 Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   Copper hued amber, light carbonation, small frothy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Soft caramel and toasted malt nose, a touch of biscuit as well.   Strong biscuit start, soft caramel and toasted malts.   Straight forward, clean, solid for the style.   I do wished it were a touch sweeter tho.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Does go down smooth.   Lingering biscuit, sweetness picks up a little here.   Solid, even if average.
3.3 Tap at Pelican brewpub. Pours a clear amber with low foam. Spotty lacing. Nose is sweet cherry juice box. Taste is richer caramelized malt, biscuit, mild hop balance, big biscuit and orange marmalade (seems to be the house special). Nice, oilier palate.
3.0 Poured from 6 fl oz bottle. Clear copper with minimal head. Light caramel malt aroma. Simple caramel malt taste. Light mouthfeel.
3.1 On tap at the brewery. Malt aroma and flavor are both mild here. Surprised by the restraint. Clear caramel color with a white head. Very muted for the style.
2.9 Pours with an off-white head that quickly disperses. Color is a light amber/copper. Aromas of light caramel and toast. Flavors are mild malts and a bit of sweetness that finishes quickly with clean hop acidity. Fairly light-bodied with a crisp mouthfeel and good carbonation.
