4.1 Bottle. Blackish, dark brown cream. Sweet tonka, vanilla and cinnamon. Medium full creamy body. Dry dark chocolate, pleasant spices, lightly musty, well balanced, light heat in the back. Very good praline finish.
4.2 A black beer with a beige lacing. Aroma of black malt, coffee, liquorice, some chocolate. Taste of sweet chocolate malt, vanilla, tonka beans, strong dark roasted malt.
4.3 Bottle from The Gull, North Vancouver; vintage 2021 Pitch black colour, compact brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, brown sugar, a touch of warm spice. Full bodied; dark chocolate flavour, this is very rich, it's sweet, but balanced by the roasted malt; coffee, burnt sugar, molasses, and cake spices, but with grace; it has a very nice, delicate, fruity touch that really turns this one into a beautiful drink; some notes from the peppers, luckily they are not of the earthy kind. Wonderful.
4.2 Poured from 750mL bottle (2021 vintage). Black with small tan head. Ancho chilli and cinnamon, cacao and touch of vanilla. Even though I liked barrel aged a touch more, I would much rather pay the cost for this.
4.4 Bottle shared by rennat42. Thank you Tanner. Poured black, dark tan head. Aroma of cinnamon, pepper, cocoa, vanilla. Taste was sweet, at 11.5% no alcohol taste at all, cinnamon, cocoa, light chili, creamy, vanilla. Everything works in together in balance, More cinnamon and cocoa as it warms. Nice one.
4.8 Bottle. A- Cinnamon, dark chocolate fudge, vanilla. A- Black color, black liquid, minimal head. T- Slightly burnt brownies, cinnamon, vanilla, faint chilies, toasted malt, cocoa, mild sweetness. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- This is a hype monster and it lived up to it. About a year old and the abv is very hidden. Brother got me a bottle for Christmas that I am saving to share with him. I came across some and bought another bottle to share with Ozzy70 and I really regret only getting one more. I wish I would've gotten 2-3 more. Absolutely delicious and a nice deep complex flavor of mexican hot chocolate. Really really want the barrel aged version now. Damn near perfect on a cool fall or winter day.
4.2 Bottle from Cappy's pour opaque black with minimal tan head. Nose with red chilies, cinnamon, vanilla, hint of molasses, chocolate. Taste luscious cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, just a hint of burn from green chilies. Very good.
3.5 2021 Bottle at Red River trailer tasting. Black pour with tan sheen lasting. Big sugared up black coffee, cinnamon, chili pepper, dark chocolate aromas. Rich, smooth mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Deep roast malt flavors with black coffee, sweetened condensed milk, spicy cinnamon and peppers—- warming pepper cinnamon, sweet spicy finish ___ tasty dessert stout
4.4 An extraordinary stout filled with expressions of ancho chili, spices and a sweet full body showing of a well crafted stout that provides a perfect end to a perfect day. Well done!
4.2 19th February 2022, 5oz pour on a flight in The Brewhouse, San Juan Capistrano. 10% ABV and 80 IBU according to the board behind the bar. Black body, no head by the time I reached my table. Nice complex beer with plenty going on aroma and taste wise. Chocolate being the main player with a vanilla and spicy sideline that led to a slightly heated finish.
4.3 750 ml. Aroma has notes of cinnamon, dark bread, chocolate, vanilla. Pours inky black with no real head, just a thin collar of tan foam. Taste is moderately bittersweet with flavors like the aroma. Chili peppers are pretty faint, with the pepper heat building on the palate gradually. Nice velvety mouthfeel. Beautiful beer.
4.6 75 cl bottle served in a snifter. Poured black with small half finger mocha tan head that dissipated immediately. Aroma: burnt chili peppers, toffee, cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, smoke, dark fruit, raisins. Taste: chili peppers, caramel, toffee, cinnamon, vanilla, bitter dark chocolate, dark roasted espresso beans, fudge, nougat, burnt muscovado sugar, molasses, plums, sultana, dates, licorice, dried figs. Chewy and silky mouthfeel. Full body with a roasted chilipeper bittersweet finish...awesome stuff! Now I have to taste the barrel aged version!!!
4.5 Opaque black beer with a slight brown head. Heavy aroma; taste starts heavy sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Vanilla, fruit, chocolate, roasted malts and cinnamon. 9/5/9/4
4.0 Lukt: Kaffe, kjeks, kanel. Utseende: Sort. Skum/kullsyre: Ikke skum. Smak: Kaffe, kjeks, kanel, chilli, vanilje. Medium: Rating:848416, Flaske@750ml, ABV@11,5%, Når@02.10.2021. Hvor: Tasting kveld Bryne. Perennial Abraxas Stout - Imperial Flavored / Pastry
5.0 750-ml bottle from rare beer club. good foamy head, roasty sweet vanilla cinnamon nose, creamy, milk chocolate, restrained booze, vanilla cinnamon, sweet fruit, earthy maybe from the ancho chile.
4.3 2019 vintage bottle. Black pour, miniscule ring of head. Dark, roasty aroma. Taste is a straightforward roasty stout, peppers show up in a small way, adding some heat. Deep and rich. A true classic.
4.2 Bottle. Moderate molasses and toasted for the malt, light resin and earth for the hops and yeast, with dark chocolate, soy sauce, vanilla and lots cinnamon. Head is small, frothy, light brown, with good lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts heavily sweet and slightly acidic, then finishes heavily sweet and slightly bitter. Palate is full, syrupy, with a sticky finish. A really tasty Flavored Imperial Stout, maybe a touch too much cinnamon, but every other aspect is outstanding.
3.4 Love the cinnamon in this one.
3.7 Bottle - vintage 2020 - apparently had this at dark lord day... Nose is cocoa and chilis. Lot going on. Lot of chocolate. Expected more heat.
3.9 It pours black with a dark brown head. There are cinnamon flavors with some sugary elements. There are also roasted notes with low pepper. It is velvety smooth. There is also very low vanilla and chocolate.
4.0 Bottle (2019 edition) pour. Appearance is syrupy opaque black with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass, nice viscosity, finger-width light-brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, vanilla, cacao. Taste is moderately strong sweet roasted malt, dark fruit, vanilla, chocolate, milder cinnamon and chili spice. Mouthfeel is full bodied, thick syrup texture, soft carbonation, mild chili heat, and finish as taste. Overall, like the others in the series, I think this sat too long--drink within first 6 months! I experience the quality but it would have been best a while ago.
3.9 Bottle Aroma-chocolate, caramel, cocoa, vanilla Appearance-black, hazy, tan head Taste-medium sweetness and bitterness, light sourness Palate-full body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish Overall-very good
3.8 Chocolate, canela, vainilla, maltas tostada y un toque a Chile que redondea
3.9 Bottle. Pours deep brown with a thin thin head. Aromas of chocolate, a bit of smoke, a little vanilla, and some leather. Flavor is nice but mouthfeel is thin in my opinion. Smokey peppers are light but present. Main draw is chocolate. A bit of tannin acidity. Very nice but thin.
4.1 Svart farge med brunt skum. Lukter vanilje, kaffe. Fyldig. Forholdsvis mild i smak. Noe kanel og sjokolade. God..
3.9 75cl bottle at Noorderplantsoen, split with Gyhallmanti, Emjolnir and A3aan_uit. Appearance: pitchblack with a medium sized brown head. Aroma: strong cinnamon perfume, ground peppers, coffee, cacao, some vanilla and spices. Taste: high sweetness and pretty high bitterness. Notes of cinnamon, spices, peppers without the heat, cacao and toffee/vanilla. Palate: full bodied, sticky texture and moderate carbonation. Overall: A really good mexican style imperial stout.
4.2 75cl bottle split with SimonBlok, emjolnir and a3aan_uit. Pours a black colour with no head. Aroma of paprika, coconut, slight cinnamon, Tonka beans, caramel. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter with a moderate dry finish. Notes of coconut, caramel, Tonka beans, chocolate, dark malt, slight roasted malt, slight spices. Texture is creamy, full bodied with medium carbonation
4.1 Bomber picked up at Devine in River Falls, WI. Abraxas pours with a deep brown almost black body. This is beneath a brown head which almost completely disappears just leaving a ring of residue. Quite complex aroma of fig, dark chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, chili pepper. Flavor is lighter on carbonation. Mouthfeel is rich. Vanilla and a slight tartness (not sure if that is intended). Certainly a good beer, but the tart off flavor makes me wonder if my bottle is slightly infected.
4.1 Tape.Black colour with medium beige head.Aroma is slight spicey with hint og Cinnamon and ciffer reallyd nice and well balance beer.
