Perennial Tart Hopfentea

Perennial Tart Hopfentea

Collaboration with Hopleaf! We started by brewing a traditional German Berlinerweiss—which Napolean’s men called the Champagne of the North—then tweaked it with a homemade tea blend to impart a slight apricot hue and botanical aromatics.

3.9 750 ml bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a clearish champagne gold color with a finger of foam that lingers, then dissipates. Lovely grainy nose with lemon & young tropical fruit aromas. Mango, kabosu and light papaya notes all over the palate. Light and refreshing table beer with a nice tropical fruit edge.
3.5 Can from Bi-Rite. Orange/red color, pink head. Sour taste with citrus, wheat, apricot, earthy notes, tea and grass. Sour finish with citrus, wheat, apricot, tea, earthy notes and grass. Very nice Berliner Weisse.
3.2 Pour is a peach color with a large fizzy white head. Aroma is fruity and herbal. Flavor is definitely way on the tart side with some fruity herbal tea after that. The tartness really covers up much of the flavor. A decent fruity palate cleanser but this is a bit too tart for my liking.
3.6 Lush, hazy, reddish-pink blush color with a white head of soapy foam that dies out fast. Light, tart papaya and guava notes with that brewed tea flavor and aroma pleading its case in the background. Quenching, fruity, and tart, if not just a bit watered down.
3.4 Pint can, Wine Warehouse. Pours slightly hazy pink with a pinkish-white head. Aroma is tart fruit including raspberry and stone fruit, dried flowers. Flavor is tart raspberry, apricot, passionfruit, lemon zest, grasses.
3.6 On tap at International Tap House. Pours a hazy light pink with a thin white head. Aroma of tart fruits, raspberry, sour malt. Flavor of tart fruits, raspberry, sour malt. Tart, fruity, a little puckering though still drinkable. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)
2.4 16floz can, COD: 03.15.2018, $3 single, pint glass. Appears strawberry blonde with what little head dissipating to nothing. Smells acidic and has a tangy hibiscus and vague fruit flavors. The body is light and there is minimal carbonation. This isn't my thing.
3.7 on tap at Crafty's in Northeast Philly - cloudy golden color. Nice sour aroma and flavor. Pretty good.
3.6 Draft @ Pizzeria Paradiso- Pours pale orangish, still. Tart with stone fruit notes, finish dry. Nice!
3.4 Draft at Khyber Pass. Cloudy orange pour with a slim ring of white foam. Fruity and tart. Apricot. Nectarine. Passionfruit. Hibiscus. Rose hips. Camomile. Just enough salinity to hint at its proported style. Crisp.
3.6 [8745-20160928] 750mL bottle. Light fruity yeast aroma. Hazy, light pink orange body with a quick foamy white head. Fruity yeasty flavour. Medium body is fairly tangy. Good, nice balance. (7/3/7/4/15) 3.6 (c/o blankboy, w/ him, GregClow, jercraigs)
3.6 Hazy copper color. Slight funk on the aroma. Moderate sourness, light body. Crisp finish. Nice Berliner weisse.
3.1 Dark orange in color.... Aroma of herbal tea, overripe tropical fruits.... Flavor of tart overripe fruits, stone fruits, tropical notes... Some saltiness, not a huge fan, kinda tasted overaged
3.8 10 oz. at Star Bar. Hazy light orange body on this one with no real head. The aroma is really fruity with notes of passion fruit. The mouthfeel is light and crisp. The flavor is fruity again with herbal notes of pepper, blackberry, and earth developing. It’s pleasantly tart throughout. Finish is dry and leafy. I thought it was good use of really late addition hops, but I guess it’s tea. Neat beer.
3.9 Herbal tea aroma. Cherry, strawberry, melon, lemon, wheat and floral. Sticky, light body. Very fruity. Very tart and sour. Love the tea.
3.2 (Tap) hazy, pale orange colour with a small white head; aroma of sourness, spice, saltiness; sour flavour with a long, medium sour finish
3.7 On tap @ Blind Tiger. Smells nice this. Orangey and fruity sweet. Traces of clementine and soda pop. Mildish perhaps but still rather nice. It’s a cloudy orangeish colored one with a quickly sidesticking white film. Tastes really good. A good tropical sour bite with sour pineapple, kumquat and it’s quite lemonic. Thin oily in the mouth and just above average on the carbonation. Refreshing and really something for the hot NYC sun. 16.06.2015
3.8 [My bottle (750ml) shared with GregClow, jercraigs & mabel] Pours a cloudy peach colour with a small semi-lasting frothy white head. Nice tart fruity aroma, yeasty and lactic as well. Flavour (7+) follows and has a quick finish. Average to medium bodied. I don’t have a lot to write about it but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
3.7 2016-09-28. Hazy pastel pink body with a small off-white head. 3+ Aroma has very lightly musky Berliner character, with a bit of fruit. Flavour is lightly tart and sour, with fruity notes that I can’t quite put a decisive name to. 7+ Average bodied palate, effervescent carbonation. 3+ Refreshing and tasty. 7/3-4/7/3/16 Bottle shared by Blankboy.
3.7 Bottle shared by blankboy, with jercraigs & mabel. Hazy pink-orange with a wispy head. Very nice aroma - tart lemon, tropical punch, yoghurty Berliner edge. Flavour follows, fresh and fruity with a refreshing tartness. Very nice.
3.5 750 ml bottle. Cloudy yellow fog color. Aroma is sour grain, black tea leaves, maybe apricot. Flavor has apricot / peach notes with the tea rather noticeable throughout the sip. Sour wheat in the center with lychee fruit hints. Some mild lemon acidity to it. Mouthfeel is lightly effervescent. Interesting enough but I don’t think I would ever seek it out again.
3.8 750 from Whole Foods PM. Poured hazy golden with white head. Nose was hops, tannins, tart acid, fruit. Tasted tart, hoppy, fruity, yeasty, with a vibrant, fruity palate.
3.7 4% wheat ale .. . tropical fruits indeed, mild tartness, straw, blonde hair, wheat .. . medium body, lively, mild finish .. straight an as arrow, good solid tart wheat .. . . Good God, Hank. You look like that feller killed the other feller.
3.8 On tap at Benelux Cafe, Milwaukee. Fruity and tart aroma with light red grapes, strawberry/Centennial hops and sweet grapefruit. Hazy red-orange under a thin ring of pristine white. Sour cherries and raspberries flavour with a little young beer sulfur/popcorn and citrus hops accents. Light body, high carbonation, mouth puckering.
3.6 Cloudy pinkish red, lively carbonation. Strawberry and melon flavor. Hops and berry nose. Light mouthfeel over carbonation. Pours with a thin white heard large loose bubbles
3.2 A wonderfully balanced Berliner, definitely better on draft vs bottled. Would definitely get it again.
3.9 Guest tap at Urban Family, Seattle. Red grapefruit juice, hazed, small foam. Tart aroma. Clean tart red fruit, really tasty and inviting. Round fruity tart, tea and Berliner makes sense. Refreshing bright, modest clean sour. Very well done.
