2.3 another badly artificialy sweet, lager w/ bad flavor additives. Wish I hadn’t tried it.
3.4 My cousin recommended this when he first started trying brews outside of a Bud_mill_oor. I don’t remember it being as fruity as stated, but still much more character/flavor than a BMC.
4.0 This was one of the original ’93 bottles. It seems to have spent 12 years in the back of a cool dark cabinet. Lots of sediment, so it may well have been live. The carbonation is very reduced, and there is a strong hint of sweetness. A subdued nutmeg and nifty raspberry. Seems a very nice and very smooth brown ale. Very English in the presentation. A great memorial to Walter Dobrowney.
3.0 [draft at MacGregor’s - Henrietta, NY] Didn’t know they still made this stuff. Nice amber color with a creamy white head. Very sweet aroma of nutmeg, spices and fruits. The taste is very sweet and slightly bitter with lots of raspberry and nutmeg flavors. The finish is slightly bitter. All in all, a nice fruit beer. [[700th Rating]]
3.2 Pours a deep dark amber color. Aromas of dark malts, fruit, and a touch of spice. Flavor is fruity, malty, with a touch of spice and a nice hop finish.
3.4 Attractive new packaging shows Old-man Winter blowing in a storm. I expected more spice and more body, but the toned down balance is sure to appeal to a broader market. A great introductory brew for those just tiptoeing into the sea of spiced beers.
3.0 Spices in the aroma are interesting though fruits are indistinct. Clear dark amber-brown with tan head that dissipates slowly. Malty flavour has spices in the finish and some fruity sweetness. Medium body with low carbonation. Sampled in Dallas, 2001. Bottle. Entered from notes.
3.8 Bottle. I was expecting a heavier brew for a winter beer, until I read the label, which had a surprisingly accurate description. Poured hazy dog-brown with a fair white head. Brown sugar and spice in the aroma, like a gingersnap: very appealing. Flavors included brown sugary malts and raspberry sweetness perfectly offset by nutmeg, with a touch of hoppy dryness at the finish. This really reminded me of some kind of Christmas cake: an excellent holiday dessert brew.
3.1 pours a dark reddish amber color with a nice off-white head, aromas of citrusy fruit mostly raspberries and sweetness, the taste has a presence of raspberries, sweet malts a touch of caramel, and some bitterness hoppy finish, good beer, i liked it.
2.5 Brown reddich color with flufft ivory head that falls flat very fast.Sweet fruity aroma’s of raspberries and spices. In the taste there is also a good hint of raspberries and dried hops.in the afthertaste there is a touch of caramel, nutmeg and fruityness ending in a bitterness of saaz hops.
3.0 Possibly a relatively old bottle, e.g., 6 months perhaps; not sure. Pours a nice dark reddish amber color with lots of tiny floaties. Initially had a nice, creamy, beige head that almost immediately disappeared. Aroma is tart and sugary sweet and mostly of rasperries, along with a hint of nutmeg (I guess). Flavor is a little harsher than expected, but not bad. The raspberry really stands out, and there is barely some nutmeg in there. Very sweet with very bitter hops in the finish. Fairly thin mouthfeel. Not bad, but certainly not among my favorite winter beers.
2.2 Used to be a beer I waited for each year, then everything changed a few years (or more) back. Just not the same beer it used to be. Very toned down in all dimensions. Is it me? or is it Petes?
3.4 Light nut brown to amber color with a fizzy tan head. Aroma is of hops and raspberry; somewhat toasty. Sweet to then lightly bitter. The nutmeg and raspberry flavors are a little muted. Nice medium palate.
2.7 Aroma is fresh with nutmeg and artifical raspberry. Sweet malt, raspberry flavor. Not alot of depth here. Thin and crisp. Overall, ok if the beer selection is limited.
2.8 Odd but not bad. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a nice copper color with a small tan head. There is a light sour aroma that was a bit disappointing. The flavor is malty and sour with a definite raspberry taste. There is a bitterness that lingers.
3.8 Tried one of these that my friend brought over and I was impressed. Had some nice after taste of nutmeg and coffee. Its hard to get however
3.1 Decent reddish amber color. Aromas of malt, slight raspberry, and spice. Finishes smooth, malty, and fruity. Balanace seems a tad off. Not bad.
2.6 Head dissipates too fast. Smell is fruity. I hate fruit in my beer. Light hops. A decent beer, but all in all there's a whole lot better in this category. I wouldn't go out of my way to look for this beer. Pete's definitely makes better brews than this one.
2.8 Frothy off white avg size head that dissipates fairly fast. Clear orange/red body. Aroma isn't too bad.. raspberry, caramel. Taste has a malty raspberry flavor, but not a big fan of it.
2.5 Price paid: $6.99 for a 6-pack Nice deep amber, but very small head that goes away quickly. Smell leaves something to be desired for. I bought this for two reasons: seasonal and the word "nutmeg" on the label. Nutmeg, my favorite spice, is nowhere to be found in the aroma. It does have a slight raspberryish type smell, but it almost smells like cheap extract (which is might very well be). OK, I can taste the nutmeg a tiny bit, but it's masked by a cheap raspberry taste... I love raspberries, but not this beer. Mouthfeel is actually kinda weird... reminds me a bit of a ginger ale feel. Not impressed. As far as seasonals go, this one is not in the "better" category. I suppose I should have known to stay away from the new Pete's.
1.5 2003 Draft in Rochester. Tastes like it is contract brewed by Lipton. Alcoholic version of Brisk. Though more carbonated and worse tasting. Drainpour.
3.4 Wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. Light copper, decent head. Nose has raspberry, a bit off. Lots of raspberry in the flavor, don't really notice the alleged nutmeg. Lots of malty, actually has a decent sticky, chewy body. Is a mite overly sweet, tastes a bit artificially cloying, but really quite better than I thought Pete's was capable of.
3.2 Smelled good, almost like a Frambozen from Belgium, but the flavor didn't follow through. Ultimately lifeless.
2.9 Grainy nose, pale copper color, low tight head. Fairly full malt base with some fruitiness lurking about (cherries?) and a slightly spiced middle. Ends with a subdued candy-like sweetness. Lacks bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel.
2.7 When I first tasted this, I thought the flavor was tainted by the bubble gum that I had just spit out. But upon a second and third try... yep, it defintely tastes like bubble gum. Some mild hopping in the back keeps this one from totally sucking. It would appear that Pete's is still catering to the females.
2.9 Mmmh - all in all more like a summerbeer / refreshing. Cereal grain nose. Light amber color, small layer of a head. Soft carbonation. Raspberry and other fruits.
2.7 Bottle. Copper/amber color. Smells fruity and of spice. Tastes like raspberry....a bit too much actually. I'm not into sweet fruit beers.
2.6 A little too much raspberry in this one, and not quite "beery" enough. There is some darker malt flavors and an actual hop presence, but it reminds me more of a raspberry iced-tea. Strangely, I think this would make a better summer brew.
3.3 Lingering lace. Amber with orange tints. Sweet w/ raspberry flavor, orange linger as well. Not bad, but there are many better (less sweet) winter ales. It's just alittle to sweet.
3.1 Bottle, copper colored with a nice off-white head that lingered well. Fruity aroma, with sweet malts and spice. Flavor is sweet also with lots of raspberry, some nutmeg, pepper and hops. Nice mouthfeel with decent carbonation. Pretty good for a Pete's Wicked brew.
