3.6 2016/01/02 - Pours a clear, dark amber colour with a frothy, khaki coloured head that quickly reduces and leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is brown sugar, dried dark fruits, toffee, yeast, gingerbread and spices (cinnamon and nutmeg). Has many similar aroma notes as a pumpkin ale. Taste follows nose; brown sugar, yeast, toffee, gingerbread, cinnamon, nutmeg and some light notes of dark fruit. Mouthfeel is medium and slick with prickly carbonation and a long, drying, mildly warming finish. This was better than I had expected. Very nice.
3.9 Nose features fermented fruit, brown sugar, spice and plums. The taste is classic big Belgian ale - brown sugar, candied fruit, dates, yeast, spices such as cloves and cinnamon, and prunes. A soft fluffy effervescence and a dense rich body add to a typically well balanced taste experience.
3.9 Nice colour and nice taste. I get a lot of caramel and dark fruits in the aroma and taste. Solid drink.
3.8 Rose, red, clear, crisp filtered colour with a sparse off white foam head. Lots of Christmas aromas, fruit cake, dried fruits, and gingerbread. Sweet malty rum flavour upfront. It Lingers a bit on the tongue with a subtle very subtle bitter hop note. Light tasting considering it a high gravity ale at 9% by volume.
4.0 Smells of gingerbread and spices. Pours a dark amber colour. Lots of head that lasts to the end. Taste is gingerbread, spices, and a solid ale. Lots of carbonation. No harsh aftertaste. Overall I was very happy with this brew Will purchase again. Next winter. MB The Beer Bearon
3.7 Bottle. Slightly funky with lots of spices in the nose; cinnamon, allspice, clove. Also dried fruit. Clear red orange under a lasting, thin, off-white cover. Sweet and spicy and dried fruit dubbel flavour. No bitterness, slightly tangy. Smooth, medium body, medium carbonation.
3.6 Pours brilliant dark copper thin white head, rich dark fruit and dark bread. Flavor has subtle spice cinnamon clove, all spice some dark fruit on the finish. Reminds me of glug or mulled spices. Medium body medium carb.
3.5 Lekker bananenschuimpjes bier. Mooie volle rode/roestbruine kleur! Backlog from 2015/02/01.
3.4 sample at festival. poured a copper to deep red colour with a white head. nose of spices, dark fruits, roasted toffee, crisp bread malts, belgian yeast. alcohol is slightly noticeable. ok
3.5 750 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clearish burnt orange colour with average-sized eggshell-coloured head. Aroma is gently toasty bread, spice, toffee and cherryish fruit. Flavour is big and malty with lots of cherry, toffee, bread crust, nutmegish spiciness and some booziness. But of warmth in the finish. Big strong beer.
3.7 Bottle from LCBO. The color is prune-like, the aroma has oranges, prunes and vanilla. The finish is sweet.
4.0 750ml bottle from LCBO. 9% alc / vol. Pours a deep amber colour with a small off white head. Aroma of caramel, nutmeg, and cherries. Taste matches the aroma with notes of bourbon and has a dry and spicy finish. Moderate carbonation. Has a sticky mouthfeel.
3.6 Clear copper pour, medium beige head. Sweet dark fruit, sweet, fruity malts. Malts are quite bready, but a touch boozy. Soft boozy cherry notes, some earthiness, with nice straw, and dried grass. Soft mouth feel, medium carb. Finish is sweet, but also low to medium bitter. Touches of minerals, and some metals, malty cereals, sweet boozy malts. A good sipper, but would benefit from some age.
3.8 (bottle) clear, bright reddish amber colour with a small brown head; aroma of spice, toffee; somewhat thick palate; balanced flavour with a long, very long bitter finish
3.6 750ml bottle. Clear dark mahogany with a foamy khaki head. Flavors are toasted cereals, gingerbread, brown sugar, molasses, banana, chocolate, dried fruits (cherry, raisin, plum) and spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove) with nutty notes. Medium to full body, good carbonation, smooth texture.
3.6 750 mL bottle. Dark, copper brown with a small beige head. Nice looking beer. Nose of ripe fruit, malt and yeast. The flavour is pretty much the same. Alcohol is not apparent. Simple, decent ale.
3.3 750 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. App.: Clear mahogany with a pretty decent tan head. Aroma: Richly malty with dark bread crust, dark dried fruit, treacle, somewhat spiced with nutmeg and clove mainly, brown sugar, like a moderately spicy Dubbel. Palate: Medium-full body, fairly full, fine carbonation. Flav.: Richly malty again with restrained spice notes, like dark ginger bread with some nice brown sugar, moderate dark dried fruits, ginger zing, not bad for a spiced beer; lightly sweet with low bitterness and a rich malty and lightly spicy finish. Decent.
3.7 Clear mahogany brew with a great head of foam and lacing. Smells very malt forward with caramel and fruity with raisins and plums. Some spice that I notice. ..nutmeg. Tastes exactly like it smells. Super smooth, no intrusion by the alcohol. Kinda reminds me of an aged English Old Ale or Barleywine. Nice mouthfeel. Excellent.
3.4 Bottle a brown colored beer with a white head aroma malts caramel dried fruits spicy and some hops flavor malts caramel fruits dried fruits spicy and hops
3.9 750ml bottle. Burgundy brown unfiltered body. Steady beige head. Creamy, sweet. Almost has a cinnamon nutmeg allspice thing going on, pumpkin meets christmas beer spices, but really quite mellow and well incorporated into the amber malts. Somewhat like a big Dubbel as well. I have always enjoyed the creamy, doughy mouthfeel of Petrus beers, and I enjoy this one as well. Brown chocolate, raisin, hints of cherry. Great beer.
3.7 A pleasant beer, this was an aged keg- between 2-3 years old if I heard correctly.. Dark Amber .. Solid foam aspects .. Dark fruit, fruit cake and soft sugar .. Mouth was fine, finish was ample ., . Pressure gauge is at 30 psi
3.0 Aroma: sweet caramel and malt. Flavour: sweet and spicy with notes of nuts and caramel. Colour: reddish brown with an offwhite head.
4.0 From 75cl into Lagunitas. Cold recently in Belgium so this seemed like a good choice to bring up from the cellar. Attractive bottle with the red cover. Pours a red-brown with an average head. Smell is brown sugar edging into raisin and a feint of cinnamon. A bit on the sweet side but the alcohol is completely hidden. Actually a really good beer - nice for sipping in the cold!
3.4 Tap. Clear reddish brown with ruby hue and creamy head. Banana, spicy, banana bread, raisins, candy. Very sweet with light bitter herbal finish. Medium bodied. Not bad.
3.7 The aroma is fruit, bread. The appearance is deep red/brown, thin head. The flavor is fruit, bread, caramel. The finish is sweet, pine, gypsum. Medium, slightly thick in body. Nice overall.
3.4 Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. It poured a dark amber color with a tan head. The aroma was of malts, caramel, spices and some berries. The taste was sweet with malts, yeast, caramel, berries, brown sugar, some spices and a little booze. It had a medium body with lively carbonation and a sweet finish with some warming alcohol. Tasty.
3.5 Bottle from Toft Vin, Copenhagen - reddish brown pour with off-white head. Sweet malty aroma and taste, lots of caramel, toffee, herbal and spicy, distinctive ginger, clove, cinnamon, was not sure at first but was a grower. Pretty decent.
4.2 dark amber to mahogany colour, moderate sized creamy beige-ish head; aroma of Christmas gingerbread, clove, hints of cinnamon and caramel; taste is the same with apple notes;alcohol is fully hidden; very heavy ale, perfect choice for a Christmas Eve menu
