3.5Appearance: nearly opaque black, one fat finger of fluffy tan head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, minimal lacing. (3/5) Aroma: milky chocolate, light coffee, malted milk, lightly nutty. (7/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Full body, moderate-low carbonation, lingering bitter finish. (4/5)
Sweet and milky chocolate leads out, but it’s backed up with enough bitterness to keep it from being cloying. Decent depth and pleasantly balanced. (14/20)
4.1Bottle from the Strath. Pours black with a thin khaki head. leaves trace lacing in the glass. massive chocolate notes on the nose. very nicely done. lovely chocolate on the tongue as well. Has a nice amount of bitterness on the finish to keep things tidy and neat. Definitely the highlight of the trip.
2.6Had a very light taste for a porter. Still enjoyable though with light hints of chocolate.
3.4Pours a dark brown, with ample tan head. Aroma of chocolate and malt. Taste is sweet and chocolaty. Smooth and quite drinkable. A definite thumbs up.
3.5Draught. Black pour with a thin tan head. As the name implies lots of dark chocolate in the nose and taste. Some roasted malt as well. Heavy body. Nice dessert.
3.7big bottle poured at home. purchased at Sherbrooke Liquor Store in Edmonton. Has a slight chocolate smell. Pours a dark brown, almost black with a minimal beige head. Average carbonation and a strong chocolate/cocoa taste. Drinkable.
3.2Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Ory. Dark brown to black with a beige head. Nice aroma of chocolate and some light vegetal notes. Bittersweetish flavor with cocoa, roast and vegetal note. Medium-bodied.
3.9Reeeally starting to like chocolate porters now, I think this was the best one yet. Pours black, with a medium sized head, little lacing. Aroma a taste of chocolate, dark coffee, and sweet roasted malts.
3.4Dark chocolate and coffee aroma. Classic dark porter appearance with an off white head. Dark chocolate and roasted nuts flavour, very malty and quite sweet. Medium bodied. Decent porter.
3.2On draft at the brewery. Brown pour, with a tan head. Lots of chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa powder, and fairly sweet. Not my thing, but I’m sure some people would like it.
4.0Dark and sweet with minimal carbonation. Really good use if the chocolate malt with almost hoppy bitterness. Thick head and light chocolate aroma with a very subtle lingering mocha aftertaste
3.7Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, light vanilla and light caramel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of milk chocolate, vanilla and light roastiness with a smooth lingering chocolate finish.
2.8Big chocolatey taste but unfortunately I don’t enjoy porters. Phillips is amazing though!

2.7Bottle bought in Vancouver, don’t remember where. Pours black with tiny biege head. Aroma: hints of chocolate, milk, alcohol and malt. Subtle. Doesn’t taste much. Little bit of carbonation. Mineral feeling. Way too thin. Disappointing, although it may have some potential.
3.0Bottle (650 ml). Shared by BeerGolem, thanks! Gusher. Dark brown with a small brown head and little lacing. Aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and acidic notes. Taste is very similar, not super expressive. Medium body. A tad watery. Chocolate finish. Short aftertaste. A bit thin and quite boring, but it’s not that bad considering the gusher and the acidic presence at first.
3.1From a 650 ml bottle. Pour is black with a quickly disappearing brown head. Aroma is mainly milk chocolate. Flavor is lactic sourness and lots of milk chocolate. Low bitterness. Hints of roasted malts. Overall a bit too much chocolate for my taste.
3.3Deep brown appearance. Aroma is chocolate. The flavor is Bosco, plain and simple. So is the finish. No roastiness, weird. Too much.
3.4From a 65cl bottle. Pours a clear dark cola brown with a thick tan head. Chocolate aroma. Flavors of milk chocolate. Smooth creamy finish.
5.0My perfect beer. As good as Brooklyn chocolate stout. And I got this on draft. Aromatic chocolate aroma. Velvety chocolate flavor without being overpowering. Mild coffee on the finish.
3.3Dark brown/black with a foamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Taste is light, almost watery, and taste has notes of chocolate.
3.7The Great BrewDad Victoria Pub Crawl 2014 - Brown in color thin tan head. Super drinking dark roast. Nice chocolate flavor and great finish,
3.6Bottle. Aroma of semi sweet chocolate. Dark brown pour with a cappucino head. Taste is bitter chocolate. Pretty good chocolate beer, doesn’t really have much more than chocolate though.
3.1Nose is quite heavy cream, hazel, milk chocolate, feel is mediumbroad, taste follows nose with weak cola, sweet corn and rubber
3.7Opaque dark brown pour with red highlights under a foamy tan head that leaves lots of lace. Lots of coffee and chocolate on the nose with a good amount of roasted nut. Excellent bitter chocolate throughout with notes of vanilla. Medium creamy mouth with soft carbonation.
3.5650ml bottle. Roasted nuts, milk chocolate and cocoa. Rich and potent. Great as a dessert, but tends to be a little too sweet otherwise.
3.3Aroma : rich chocolate and roasty malt character
Taste: bitter taste paired with smokey chocolate maltiness however it is a bit more hoppy than id like for a porter .
Appearance : dark brown body a thick creamy head with medium retention
4.1I really enjoyed this porter. A wonderful aroma of dark chocolate roasted grains. Slight coffee. Tastes great chocolate flavour is great. I worth a try.
3.8Lighter bodied than I’m used to from a porter, but the chocolate and nutty notes are really well harmonized and flavorful. -- Aroma: 7/10. Chocolate, caramel. -- Appearance: 4/5. Pours a dark cola with almost no head. Lively carbonation keeps the foam at the edges going throughout. -- Taste: 9/10. Sweet chocolate, honey, and a definite nutty flavor that reminds me of peanuts or walnuts. Medium sweet, light bitter, a little sour. -- Palate: 3/5. Thinner body than I’d like with a porter or stout, but the balance is nice, the palate is gently silky, and the finish is surprisingly crisp. Carbonation is lively in this, much more so than I’m used to in a porter, but that’s not a bad thing here. -- Overall: 15/20. Straight up a tasty and very approachable beer. The combination of chocolate and nutty notes, and very gentle hopping, makes this a surprisingly easy to drink beer. It’s not the most complex beer out there, but it’s definitely one I could session through a few bottles of.
3.218.12.2014 - 341mL Bottle #16 from 2014 Phillips Snowcase
Rating #832 - December 14, 2013 - Beer 14 in the Phillips Snowcase Advent Calendar. Clear, dark brown pour with a foamy, tan head. Aroma is dark roast malts, chocolate, and almonds. Taste is full-bodied, smooth, and loaded with toasted malt character, but almost too chocolately. Overloaded with a powdery cocoa note. Lingering bitterness, mild chalkiness.
