3.1 330ml bottle. Clear amber, small off white head. Aroma of malts with a light fruity note. Fairly smooth body, moderate carbonation. Malty and light stone fruit note with a bit if spice, bitter bite in the finish. Not bad.
3.5 Good depth, like it. Light chataigne
3.0 330ml bottle, online from Beers of Europe. Pours clear amber with a white head. Aroma: malts, caramel, light nutty, sweet. Taste: moderate sweet with low bitterness, more sweet malts & caramel. Medium body with average carbonation. Bit sweet, otherwise OK
2.7 330ml bottle. Pours dark orange with a medium head. Aroma is caramel, dried fruit and boiled sweets. Taste has dried fruit to start with caramel and boiled sweets on the finish.
3.1 330ml bottle from Beers of Europe - Clear amber body, thick white head. Nose has a nutty malt aroma to it, quite sweet too. Taste has the same nutty qualities, quite syrupy sweet, thick mouthfeel. More enjoyable than I expected.
2.8 This beer's pour gives a healthy, but quickly evaporating, white head. Overall, this beer is an atypical amber. It's hue carries much more gold than most, which I've discovered is due to chestnut flour used in the brewing process. These chestnuts add a unique distinction to the aroma, which stray from the standard malt / caramel scents of an amber. The taste is really hard to describe and nail down. I sat through most of it debating 'are those grapes...? No, it's sour apples...? No...' This went on for 15 minutes. I finally nailed it down to chestnuts and honey, which really is a combination I'd never experienced before (kind of like the island from which it comes). The beer finishes with very little bitterness and is smooth, but denser than most ambers.
3.6 Pours an amber color. Malty sweet aroma. Taste is like a Belgian amber, very nice! Notes: bottle from my Corsican friend, Inauguration Day ‘21.
2.7 330ml bottle from Wine Rack, Tattenham Corner. Pours clear amber with a white head. Aroma of malt. Metallic malt and grain taste. Bitter finish.
3.1 27-12-2020; bottle; at the Swedish house (bought at an unknown location). The looks of the beer are good. It is an amber colored beer. The beer has a slight haziness. On top there is a nice layer of forty white foam. Foam retention is low, hardly a drape is left. Not bad, not super special either. The aroma of the beer is fine. The malts give some notes of caramel. There are some nutty notes too, which is nice. This is very nice with the malty notes. Hops have some herbal aromas. The hops don't give that much. The nice malty and chestnut aromas are preserved. The taste of the beer is good. Sweet malts and chestnut, together with a slight nutty savory note and some hoppy bitters. It is well balanced. The palate is fine. Medium body, smooth texture and medium-low carbonation. The finish has a nice hoppy bitterness, with a nice dry ending. All in all, nice, especially that chestnut twist.
4.2 Chestnut brown pour. Chestnut. Yup. Nutty aroma. Caramelly and toffee. Bready. Sweet finish. Interesting. Good!
Weinig nasmaak.
3.2 Dark gold color. Sparkling clear. Low, quickly disappearing head. Not much happening in the aroma. Some cereal hints. Moderately sweet. Rather low bitterness. Seems well balanced. Oily in mouth.
3.9 Chiara con cappello fine è abbastanza persistente. Carbonatura fine. Buon aroma con castagne miele e pane. Buona persistenza e corpo. Finale dolciastro al miele di castagne.
3.2 33 cl. bottle @ the bungalow in St. Bennot, bought @ intermarche. Clear amber with a white head. Munich aroma with some nuttiness. Sweet taste with a medium bitter finish. Nice amber lager.
2.9 Clear golden appearance. Aroma is malt and grassy. Flavour is malt, dry and bitter.
3.3 A 330ml bottle from L'Epicerie Quintinaise, Quintin, Brittany a year or so ago. Pours dark amber verging on brown with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of chestnut & hints of coffee. Sweet & malty in the mouth. A medium bitter finish with touches of herbs. Very enjoyable Vienna lager
3.6 330ml bottle from Tesco, Watford and drunk on 05/06/2006. This is pretty novel and I actually had it again recently (but forgot to re-rate). The chestnut adds a certain sweetness and overall this is a bloody well made amber lager.
3.6 Amber with a one finger wide head. Fruity, nutty smell. Bitter taste with a chestnut background. Higher carbonation.
4.0 Le Richelieu, Marseille - 22/07/2017
2.4 Pite jakiś czas temu, stąd brak szczegółów tylko ocena przeniesiona z notatek... P.S Przywiezione z Korsyki kasztanowe męczące...
4.0 Douce, légèrement parfumée châtaignes
3.8 Got in a trade with Shanex. 330 ml bottle into lager glass, best before 7/2021. Pours fairly crystal clear deep golden/amber, light orange/copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of of streaming carbonation. Aromas of brown sugar, brown bread dough, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of caramel, nuttiness, roast, wood, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of brown sugar, brown bread dough, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of caramel, nuttiness, roast, wood, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of brown sugar, brown bread dough, toasted biscuit, light caramel/nuttiness/roast, wood, pepper, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Fairly clean on lager flavors, not overly fruity/yeasty. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a very good Vienna lager. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Nicely clean vienna malt showcase, and noble hop presence/balance. Mild residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example. Just wish it was a bit cleaner on the yeast.
4.3 Beautiful, clear golden amber, creamy but ephemeral foam. Malty and lemony nose with clear chestnut notes (I can tell, because I used to hate chestnuts). Refreshing and sweet in the mouth, soon joined by well-balanced bitter notes. The chestnut flour only appears again later, but just as easily distinguishable. A slight hoppy bitterness joins in towards the end and remains for quite a while. The mouthfeel is smooth, carbonation is relatively high, but it fits well. The alcohol is barely noticeable – dangerous! While I was less convinced about the beer on my first few attempts, it really grew on me with every bottle. I like the idea of using chestnut flour as an actual ingredient during the brewing process, and not just a flavour additive for marketing. Overall, the Pietra is just a wonderfully balanced and refreshing beer, dominated by its malty sweetness which, however, never overwhelms. One of my favourite discoveries so far.
