3.6 From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy copper with an off white head. Fruity hop nose. Soft and smooth mouthfeel. Flavors pine and citrus with caramel undertones. Nice.
3.4 Amber colored, moderate head, decent lace/retention. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, spicy hops, some caramel. Medium bodied, moderate bitterness.
4.4 Drank in tulip glass poured from bomber from alaska. Aroma - not much of an aroma clean scent. Not heavy on hop aroma. Appearance - beautiful glowing orangish red. Burnt rubber color. Taste - boom. Fantastic. So smooth and tasty with just enough bitterness. Loving it. Palate - nice bitter finish. Overall - very very enjoyable. One of my favorite DIPAs.
3.6 12 ounce pour at the brewery, extremely muddy pour, flavor hides the alcohol well.
3.4 22oz bottle shared by madbeerbaron. Thanks ben. Pours amber wit a half finger of off-white head. Aroma of citrus and grapefruir. Taste is on the sweet side. Big caramel kick in the face but ends with a decent citrus zip. Overall, pretty good. I would drink it again.
3.2 Bottle shared by madbeerbaron...thanks Ben! - Pours hazy amber with a thin white head. Nose is malty and sweet with a bit of dank, grassy hops. Thick and sweet flavor with a grassy, spicy hoppiness. Slick and thick in the mouth with medium carbonation.
3.1 Bomber shared by Ben, pours a clear amber with a thin head, the aroma was of straight malt and caramel, maybe just a little bit of hops mixed in there, but way sweeter than I was expecting. The flavor is much of the same, big malty front end with a sweet finish with a touch of hops, not bad by any means, just not the nice hoppy iipa’s I look for.
3.8 22oz bomber courtesy of the MadBeerBaron. Orange-tan body, oily head. Delicate grapefruit aroma. Smooth on the palate for a IIPA. Toasty golden malt. Soft fruity hop tones. Quite nice.
3.3 Pours a hazy amber, orange color with a thin white head. Mild caramel aroma with a orange, resiny hoppy character. Taste is mildly sweet, with a light bitter, orange hoppy flavor. Moderately oily and creamy mouthfeel with a lasting orange finish. Decent example of style.
2.8 Very bready and the hops were a bit underwhelming. It tasted like the hops were stale or not covering the full palate of flavors necessary from a double IPA.
3.8 Pours a hazy copper from the bottle with dissipating off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is definitely hop forward, pine and earthy notes. Taste follows, hop funkiness, decently fresh. Bitter finish and no real hint of the booze. Solid beer.
4.0 Very nice assortment of hops. Tastes like a true PNW ipa, citrus, pine, slightly flowery, decently balanced.
3.7 Pours hazy amber with a good sized off-white head. Nose of citrus hops. Medium body. Flavor of grapefruit. Bitter citrus finish,
4.0 Pike’s Double IPA has a thick, cream-colored head, an opaque, brilliant, orange appearance, lots of bubble streams (etched tasting glass), and pretty good amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is of bread crust, indistinguishable citrus (maybe, Japanese plums), and some slightly turned fruit. Taste is of bread crust, baked white bread dough, bitter and oily hops, some weird citrus, and alcohol (which is mostly masked). Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Pike’s Double IPA finishes mostly dry, rather harsh, and has a sipping drinkability. This is a very deceptive beer- it starts out mild and pleasant and then bangs one in the head with it’s harshness and bitterness. Really interesting! RJT
4.1 Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark amber color with a moderate white head. Nose has a nice level of floral hoppiness to it. Taste is bitter with a bite, but balanced enough to make it an easy drink. Me gusta.
3.7 Orange and mostly clear with a bit of haze, a good head and pretty good lacing. Smells of citrus, pine, hops and some malts, although the aroma is pretty subdued. Taste is bold and hoppy, quite hoppy indeed, with a nice piney grapefruit flavor, along with a generous helping of maltiness. Heavy drinking and quite bitter. Overall it’s a pretty nice DIPA. No complaints here, would like to try more from this brewery.
3.4 From Bottle. Pours a hazy orange with nice white head. Aroma is herbal/pine hops. Taste is a little on the bitter side and thin.
3.9 Very good double characteristics. Smooth hop smell. Medium bitternes on the back end.. definitely a good double.
3.9 Bottle shared by whicheck. Color is copper with off white head. Taste is really bitter with q malty backbone. Nice balance with malts and hops
4.0 Light orange color..little head..vibrant hop aroma..catty in a good way..mango and other citrus present..nice bitterness on finish..glad to have picked this up another quality offering from pike..good stuff in my book and worth seeking out..decent price point as well for a bomber..better thqn expected..
4.5 Clear but slightly hazy gold in color. Thick foamy white head. Aromas of fresh resin, pine, spruce and alcohol notes as well. Slight sweetness at first. Picked up hints of vanilla, grass and citrus rind as well as a general woodsy flavor. This is a more balanced double than some others out there, not as sweet and more emphasis on the hops. Body is nice with a foamy and dense feel. Bitter finish that lingers quite a while. Some floral qualities are experienced with this as well. Solid offering.
3.7 On tap at Pike Brewing Company. Pours a cloudy orange colored body with a thin, creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is juicy, citrusy florals with a light pine and a somewhat sweet caramel malt backing. Nice oranges, pineapples, and grapefruits to the hops. Flavor is similar. Lots of juicy citrus florals with a nice mix of oranges, pineapples, and grapefruits as well as a light pine. Very smooth, lightly sweetened caramel malt provides a nice balance as this finishes dry, but malty and smooth with a medium-light bitterness and a good amount of citrus florals. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full body and a soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, a really well done DIPA. Soft and smooth with a balanced bitterness and a solid citrus element to the hops. Very enjoyable.
3.7 slightly cloudy amber pour with aromas of citrus, pine and malt - flavor is a very hoppy (more flavor hops than bitter although the bitterness is definitely there) malt with a lingering malt/hops. Very well balanced!
3.5 Shared 22oz bottle. Poured a hazy bronze color with a small off-white, light tan head. Plenty of lacing in this one. Aroma is heavy on the hops, with a moderate amount of malt balance to this one. Some sweet citrus fruit notes. A touch boozy, but not too overpowering. Pretty enjoyable.
3.6 Tap at Pike Pub & Brewery, Seattle - 09/11/12 (listed as Double Trouble IPA). Hazy mid amber with a thin off white head that soon dissipates. Nose comprises hops, pine, bitter grapefruit, apricot jam, caramel malts, candied sugar. Taste of caramel malts, bitter grapefruit, sweet mango, light mineral tones. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish. Ok DIPA - a little too sweet, the balance isn’t quite right in this respect.
3.8 This is a smooth sipping Double IPA, very balanced for all the hops and ABV that the style is known for. It goes down like a Belgian style IPA but with a nice hop kick in the aftertaste. While it does not knock your socks off with any stand out attributes, it is the balance that is the knock out, and a very difficult thing to obtain. So that is why they got the high "overall" rating.
3.6 On tap at the brewpub. Double version of their ipa. Double malt. Double hops. Double shrug??
4.0 Pours cloudy and brown with a minimal white head. Aroma is heavy resinous pine with some chocolate malts in the background. The hops & malts overwhelm the tastebuds up front with sweet pine and carob flavors. The finish is just a slow mellowing of the flavors into mild, agreeable, bitterness. Not bad.
4.2 Drank it at the brewery. Copper, golden, medium carbonation and head retention. Great pine and fruity aroma. Well balanced flavors, very drinkable, tasty double IPA
3.8 Poured from 22 oz. bottle. Lightly hazy orange amber with large pale yellow head and excellent lacing. Aroma of citrus and pine. Taste of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, pine and caramel. Nice balance. Full body and medium carbonation.
