Pike Kilt Lifter

Pike Kilt Lifter

Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

3.5 (tap) clear bright amber colour with a small white head, creamy palate, aroma of honey, balanced flavour with a long light bitter sweet finish
2.9 Tons of malt which one would expect. Not as much peat or smokiness as others have stated which is a positive for me. Very clean and crisp mouthfeel which is rare for a Scotch Ale. Don’t love the category but tried it as the brewery is right down the street, and glad I did. Arguably best Scotch Ale I’ve had.
3.9 Clear dark amber color with a tan head. Wonderfully complex aroma with cinnamon clove, cardamom, and a touch of orange zest. Flavor is mild, with some residual sweetness. Very good indeed, yes, quite.
3.3 Tap at Pike. Clear orange-amber pour with a tight white head. Toffee, mild vanilla, sweet dates. Not bad.
3.8 Smells sweetly malty with hints of caramel. Pours a caramel brown with a quickly dissipating head without any lacing. Taste is initially sweet with a mildly bitter short finish. Medium body with soft carbonation.
3.5 Bottle into pint glass Pours a hazy copper colour with fast disappearing off white head. Aroma is stone fruit a caramel. Taste is sweet malt and stone fruit.
3.1 With Z , pours a rusty deep copper pour with a ephemeral beige head. Nose is sweet caramel toffee ! Taste is very sweet with deep vanilla, caramel and toffee. Finish is also sweet, and ends on the same tasting notes . Quaff Score 6 / 10
2.6 Bomber. Pours a copper red with a beige head and aroma of malt and caramel. Taste is malty, with caramel, bread, and biscuit notes into the malty finish.
3.0 Ruby ale. 飲みやすいけど、鉄の錆びた味がする
3.5 Appearance: Medium brown, clear. Small off-white head. Aroma: Malt, raisins. Taste: Malt, raisins, oak. Toasted. Sweetness. Bought: Total Wine (Sterling), 650 ml, $4.99 Info: 16/9-2015
3.4 Sweet malty aroma with slight smokey woodiness. Caramel, candy, raisin. Pours a reddish amber color with small wispy white head Sweet bready caramel raisin flavor with woody notes. Medium full bodied with medium CO2, lingering sweetness in finish A well balanced beer. Malt forward but not overly sweet. Surprisingly refreshing after a long day in the sun.
3.5 On June 25, 2015. At Pike Pub & Brewery in Seattle, Washington. Listed at 6.9% ABV. Clear deep brown color, teal head. Caramel, malty, bread crust taste. Toasty aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Caramel, tosty scent.
2.8 Strong caramel taste and dry finish. It’s a good scotch ale but would benefit from a bit more body
3.4 Served on tap at Pike Brewing. Copper red color with a large dirty white head. Sweet malt aroma. Medium Body. Flavor is a mix of scotch, grain and hops. None of which are overwhelming. Carbonation with a clean finish.
1.1 The aroma carries some malt and a hint of peat. Unfortunately that is all overpowered by a bitter, almost rancid flavor. Not good at all.
3.4 Tap at Pike Brewing, Seattle. Colour is clear copper with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Sweetness, nuts and malts.
0.9 Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a beer can glass on 06.13.14. A: Very thin tan mess of a head. It recedes from splotches to nothing. Cloudy brown body. S: Very faint caramel and earthiness. T: Follows the nose. M: It feels flat even though there are some bubbles on the tongue. O: This looked and tasted like flavored water. I don’t have an idea of how old it was since they don’t date their bottles, but this is the 3rd Pike beer out of 3 that have been like this. They’re local, so this should not be a problem as much as it is. Drain pour.
3.6 Tap at Pike - lighty hazy dark copper - rich maltiness (toffee) is complimented by some plumy sweetness, a bit of bread pudding - some balancing leafy bitterness - lingering toffee finish - nice.
3.1 (Bottle) Lots of intense malty sweetness. But some bitter astringency too. Not that good.
3.5 Nice. Dark amber. Well done. Easy to drink. Kind of sweet. Candy like. Not terribly malty. Thx carter.
4.0 Amber pour with creamy white head and lace. Aroma is large maltiness, earthy hops, and a toucho smoke. Large malt flavor a very pleasant floral bitter finish. Medium body with good carbonation. I really like this beer. @bp
3.2 "ok. it’s a little too sweet, and not quite full enough, but it was a pleasant enough beer. there are better out there, so i probably won’t have it again. 8/09-better on tap at the source, but what isn’t? more smoke, especially in the flavor, which is nice, but still a touch thin and sweet. upgrade to a 3.3 though (3.1 bottle, 3.4 tap)."
5.0 On tap at brewery....really good do not know why bottles do not do so well here. I loved it big scotch peat aroma, thick rich so good and balanced to style. Loved it with fish n chips with vinegar!!!!
3.8 8oz draft in small Sam Smith glass at Hummingbird in Columbia City, Seattle. Slick dark homey amber color. Light lacing. Clear beer. Slightly cleaner and a bit of hop but otherwise to style malt sweetness and earthy malt mix. A faint fruit British yeast character. Very nice American version of the style. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.7 Pint on tap at the brewery. Tasty little scotch ale, I’m a huge fan of the style, and there’s plenty of tasties to go around with this batch. yum.
5.0 Was in Seattle a few weeks ago, fell in love with this up lifting brew. Malt is heavy but like it should be, don't pass this one up!
3.5 Mild aroma of malt and hops, ruby color with a nice head. Wonderful complex taste, of scotch, malt, fruit and a hint of hops. Creamy feel with a mild fruity finish.
3.5 Bottle. Orange amber body under a bubbly white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, peachy fruity. Taste is bright fruity, caramel and vanilla, mild bitter sweet finish. Body is viscous, but not heavy, with fine carbonation. Draft sampler at brewery, light and fruity, malty, honey. Finish sweet.
2.7 Pours a but if a cloudy orange-golden with a large, eggshell colored head. The nose is somewhere in the middle of apple, green grapes, and honeydew melow. Some caramel notes float beneath. A bit puffy in the mouthfeel. More caramel in the flavor than in the aroma. Quite weak though.
3.7 Clear slightly dark amber under a thin light tan ring of head. The aroma is dark and biscuity with a light touch of molasses and earthy nuttiness. Big rich nutty flavor with some sweet earthy molasses and rich dark toast. But still quaffable, not too sweet or cloy. Just right in the middle and nutty and bready and dark.
