This strong amber beer was first brewed in 1982 at the request of Van Steenberge’s Italian importer. Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

330 ml bottle, at Roma Pizzeria, Funchal. ABV is 10.5%. Slightly hazy orange colour, large white head. Aroma and flavour of Belgian ale yeast, kandij sugar syrup, mild spices, stewed fruits, hints of dark dried fruits. Nothing wrong with it, but there are even better Belgian strong ales in this style.
Bottle. Hazy brown, medium body with a well rounded mouth-feel. Sweet and malty without being cloying. Alcohol not overpowering for a 10.5% beer.

Piana kremowa, drobno pęcherzykowata. Barwa złota, lekko zamglona. W smaku brzoskwinia, tosty. W aromacie podobnie. Dość mocno rozgrzewające. Goryczka niska
Bière blonde foncée, quasi ambrée, avec une belle mousse blanche.
Au nez, c’est bien malté et épicé, dans la tradition Belge.
Au passage en bouche, les notes d’alcool sont clairement mises en avant, sans enlever à la rondeur de la bière. C’est légèrement fruité et herbacé, ce qui donne une amertume douce en fin de bouche.

In a Trappist glass a thick dollop of complete creamy foam head covers the haze of golden drink. Sticky lacing that clings. Tangy tingling of sweetish flavors. Yeasty, layered sensation with each mouthfeel. Non citrus and a playfully deep taste, containing all sorts of naturally candied hints. Superior warmth, wet finish. Yo, this beer is chill.
Bottle from Lidl, Hamburg - clear golden color, white head. A surprisingly well drinkable high abv beer. Grainy, bitter, but still fresh and crisp, with a rather light body. This is indeed a great beer, especially for the style, even though the average of 3.66 seems way too high for me, as it is rather simple. Very round and well done though, indeed. A surprise.

Barwa ciemnozłota, klarowne, z obfitą średnio i drobnopęcherzykową pianą, która dość szybko opada. W aromacie karmel, lekkie nuty przygniłej brzoskwini i świeżej śliwki, dość przyprawowe. W smaku półsłodkie, o podobnym profilu smakowym jak w aromacie, choć trochę bardziej owoce. Przyprawowe natomiast na finiszu, nie czuć alkoholu, lekko gryzące wysycenie, niska do średniej przyprawowa goryczka, która długo utrzymuje się na podniebieniu.
Bottle. Clear light amber color, fine, lacing white head. Fruity esters, spicy, slightly phenolic aroma. Dry taste, low bitterness, perceptible ABV. The spicy phenolics are more present in the aftertaste. Full body, low carbonation.

33 cl bottle. A hazy golden pour with a greenish cast and a gray-ish, sticky, huge mostly lacing, persistent but not so much head.
Aroma is not so intense for such an ABV. Porridge, honey, Golden Grahams, candied sugar, fig. A hint of sweat.
Powerful, sweetish, rather warm even at low temperature (low crispness, hem.) Bitter finish that lasts less than expected, even though it's a long-lasting beer. So-so.
Bottiglia da 0,33. Schiuma abbondantissima e persistentissima. Colore oro antico. Carbonatura eccessiva. Aromi di ananas, vaniglia e agrumi. Gusto aggressivo. Finale lungo con retrogusto dolce. Strong belga di gradazione elevata e di buona qualità. Consiglio 8/10.

0,33l bottle. A hazy deep golden beer with a disappearing white head and high carbonation. Strong aroma has notes of fruity hops, malts, yeast, sweet citrus, caramel, bubble gum and some banana. Bittersweet flavour with notes of syrup, bergamot and honey. Dry bitter aftertaste.
Butelka 0,33, z zestawu. Kolor bursztynowy, lekko zamglone. Piana biała, obfita, gęsta, trwała, z bardzo dobrą koronką. W aromacie nuty drożdżowe, skórki chleba, mirabelki, szampana, lekkie goździka, po ogrzaniu wódczane alkoholowe. W smaku słodkawe, alkoholowe, słód, skórka chleba, drożdżowość, alkohol, lekka przyprawowość. Finisz cierpkawy od alkoholu i lekko ziołowy. Pełnia średnio wysoka, wysycenie średnie do średnio wysokiego, goryczka średnio niska, ziołowo-alkoholowa, alkohol nieprzyjemny w smaku, lekko gryzący. Niezbyt rewelacyjny wypust, smakuje jak jakiś stronglagerowy mózgotrzep. Rozczarowanie, chociaż Tripel Hop z zestawu też był niezbyt, a ten z kartonowego czteropaku bardzo dobry, więc może to kwestia słabszej warki.

Esta é uma cerveja muito similar á irmã triple hop. cor clara e translucida. espuma presente, gosto amargo q.b. que disfarça a geaduação
Lys brun tåkete med lys beige skum. Lukter karamell, alkohol og rosiner. Fyldig. Maltig lett bitter smak. Smaker lett brent karamell, alkohol, sitrus, hvete, noe sydhavsfrukt og rosiner. Lang. Alkoholen sitter lenge.
Botella de 33 cl. Fecha de consumo preferente 09/06/2024. Color dorado oscuro con carbonatación media y dos dedos de espuma. Aroma a caramelo, manzana, pan, mermelada. Sabor a pan, manzana, caramelo, albaricoque, bizcocho. Cuerpo medio, dulce, licorosa, se nota bastante el alcohol, no he podido terminarla, no me ha gustado demasiado, no es mi estilo preferido.
Bit murky amber color with white head. Fruits, flower, caramel, bit alco aromas. Moderate lasting bitterness, bit fruitiness in taste. Average to full body, light carbonated.
June 2022. Stubby bottle from Lidl. Yeah, drinkable Belgian. Kinda like Leffe. Not the greatest, but I do like these boozy yeasty Belgians. I think I've been a little mean in the past based on comparing this with better quality Belgians, but when comparing this with yer average craft beer, I'd much rather have this. So, not a great Belgian, but a better than average beer in general. I'd be quite happy to have several cases of this on a desert island than many beers I know. [3.1]
Boxing Day, 2016 330ml stubby dark bottle, unfiltered, part of a mixed box of six Belgians for £10.49 from Lidl. Candy sugar, Carlsberg Special, some damp dirty bitterness. I’d rather just have the Carlsberg Special. Gee, this is not an attractive beer on so many levels. But it is drinkable. [2.1]
Nov, 2011 Part of a wooden case of Belgian beers bought in Carrefour Nice late at night just as they were closing. This is part of my Nice-Cannes Marathon experience. The beer is clearly like Duval - pale, strong, perfumy, chalky dry. These blonde strong Belgian ales are so much like strong Euro-lagers that there isn’t a huge difference. You get the high alcohol notes, and you get high. This is sweeter than Duval so I liked it a bit more, but there were still some unpleasant alcohol flavours. [2.9]

Aromas a caramelo y ligeramente terroso

Botella de 33 cl. Color ámbar intenso, espuma blanca abundante y con apariencia jabonosa. Retención media. Aromas a piel de naranja, plátano y especias, notas florales. Sabor dulce, caramelo, cítricos y frutas, especias. Trago de perfil cálido, licoroso, amargo y seco.
De color ámbar pálido, ligeramente turbia. Forma una corona de espuma blanca marfil, de poca persistencia y poca retención.
En cuestión aromática, probablemente la botella que compre no estuvo bien almacenada ya que los aromas eran muy tenues como para distinguirlos, pero se alcanzaba a percibir dulce, algo a plátano, malta y caramelo. Es licorosa y se nota el alcohol al final del trago.
En boca es agradable, dulce principalmente pero no de forma excesiva, baja carbonatacion, cuerpo medio.
No es muy fácil de beber pero invita a hacerlo.
Golden, hazy pour with a huge white foam head. Aroma is of lemon zest, citrus, banana, yeast and spice. Orange peel. Huge palate of Belgian yeast, tropical fruits, tongue-tingling spice and zest. Finishes dry. A good Belgian ale, but the spice is perhaps slightly overbearing. Worth drinking but I personally wouldn’t have more than one of these in an evening.
Golden in color and taste, hints of sweetness but not too sweet. all-in-all just perfect.
