Pirate Life Pale Ale

Pirate Life Pale Ale

The ubiquitous Pale Ale. The workhorse of pretty much any modern brewery.

The brief we gave ourselves for our flagship beer was that it should be able to be sent to any bar in San Diego and to stand proudly alongside the many great Pales produced in, and around, the west coast of the US.

The schematic for a West Coast Pale Ale is bucket loads of big US hops, full malty backbone and a characterful yeast. That is what this Pale Ale is all about. Enjoy as fresh as possible.

Beer pairing: Everything, all of the time.

3.1 Darker, a little bit bitter. Not the most beloved one of pirates. I think I like lighter colored, hoppy but not bitter beers..
3.2 Poured a clear amber-red with great deep buff head that lasted. Aroma simple, of old/musty/dry orange peel. Taste initially sweet malt moving quickly to bitter rein hops and then to acetone. Over-hopped for a pale, more akin to a new-age IPA. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, long finish though touch over-acrid on bitterness to the end. Overall an interesting brew that is a bit confused on its style.
4.2 (Tap) Cloudy tan appearance, nice head. Hop aromas. Well balanced malt/bitterness. Hit the spot tonight, my expectations well and truly surpassed
3.0 Strong flavour in the context of beers I’ve tried. Became more easily drinkable once I’d gone through half.
3.1 355ml can Amber brown colour with firm white head. Malty aroma. Malty taste. Dryish hop finish.
3.3 Can. Pours dark amber. Aroma and flavor are pale and caramel malts, grassy hops, some grapefruit, and a dry bitter finish. Medium body

3.2 Can from the brewery. Pours clear amber with a bubbly beige head. Tastes like toffee malt, bitter pine hops, dry toast, and grass. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like toffee malt, pine hops, caramel, and grass.
4.2 Classic example of what Australia does consistently well, the American Pale Ale. Equal parts refreshing and flavour-rich. I believe tastes even better riding a skateboard.
3.5 Draught at Belle's Hot Chicken, Tramsheds. Pours a hazy ruby amber, with a moderate off-white head, which lasts well and leaves good lacing. Slight char, floral and resin hops in the aroma. Pine needle and mild citrus hops up front, good caramel malt backbone, lightly floral finish. A well-sorted pale.
3.1 Pours an amber colour. There is a hoppy aroma and the taste is slightly of resin and slightly of tropical fruit with a hint of bitterness from the hops. Probably more complex than your run-of-the-mill pale ale. Overall, not a bad beer.
4.0 The balance is great, tropical fruits, moderate bitterness with a hint of resin, a touch malty for my tastes but that's me. Good length. You need to try this if you're a pale ale type.
3.3 Copper color, white head. Fruity nose, citrus, malty, caramel. Malt forward taste, caramel, citrus, grapefruit, resin, fruity notes, moderate bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation. 7, 3, 6, 3, 14
4.3 Light amber in colour, sweet malty and citrus aroma, soft balanced palate with a grapefruit bitterness on the finish, one of the best pales around.
3.6 Great pale ale with hoppy notes. Great option for who already likes pale ales and is starting to drink IPA’s.
4.1 Pours golden amber with a foamy white head. Great balance of hops and fruit. Easy drinking pale ale.
4.2 Robust, bit of chewy pine needles, brings the after taste of ginger nut biscuits to mind, very enjoyable, could definitely have a few.
3.4 355 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Haugesund. ABV is 5.4%. Clear amber colour, large to moderate white head. Pleasant aroma of fruity and piney hops. The flavour has a moderate malty sweetness, followed by piney and grapefruity hops. Resinous and medium bitter finish.
3.9 Can from simply local, burntwood. Hazy Amber beer with large head. Aroma is nutty with pine and caramel. Taste is stewed fruits, caramel and pine resin with a good hop bitterness. Not quite on the Chris Franklin scale but Very good. Indeed.
3.4 Can from Vinmonopolet, Kvadrat. Pours clear deep amber with a big creamy off white head. Aroma of nutty malts, piney hops. Taste is moderate sweet creamy malts, oranges and piney hops at the finish.
3.4 Bottle 33 cl. Amber, clear with a medium offwhite head. Lots of hoppy aroma, some malt. Bitter taste with a good hop end.
3.3 355ml can from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Firm off-white head to a clear amber coloured body, spotty lacing down the glassware. Good looking, indeed. Herbal hops on the nose joined by a little bit of toffee. Mixed taste of pine, wood and brown malts. Dry, very dry bitter tail. Medium bodied. Decent stuff with session qualities. (Tromsø 17.03.2018).
3.1 Boks fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Langnes. Gylden. Nesten helt klar. Høyt luftig skum som daler sakte. Litt lacing. Ferskenaroma. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken tørket frukt med spor av malt. God balanse.
2.8 Can courtesy of fletchfighters via IP trade (thanks man!); shared during apt move - Feb 2018. Pours an amber body with soft lace. Sweet sugary nose. Thin to light bodied with notes of sweet malt candy. Minimal hop profile - not sure if this is stale at this point.
3.8 355 ml can poured into a tulip glass. Appearance of pour is a clear amber color, with a good head of sticky and persistent white froth. Aroma is malty and grapefruit citrus. Taste is similar, fruity, grapefruit bittersweet followed by long, moderate piney bitter. Medium bodied, nicely carbonated.
0.5 this is the worst beer l have ever tasted in my life and believe me l have tasted a lot in my lifetime , what really surprises me about this beer is how it even got into the market to be produced at all and that is very disturbing as this is vomit material in fact it took me three hours to even get the after taste of this disgusting sickening pathetic apologie of a beer out of my mouth , how on earth it was ever allowed is beyond human thinking in fact l dont think it was a human who even allowed this to ever be marketed at all, l mean seriously ??
3.6 355 ml can bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty. Looks: Clear deep amber colour; Three-quarter finger head with soapy off-white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Excellent sticky lacing with active slight carbonation. Aroma: Very fragrant Ale malt, with melon, pepper, white grapes, citrus, caramel, floral, sugar, light pine, biscuits, lime and light grass. Taste: Mid to light sweet Ale malt, with grapefruits, light caramel, floral, light molasses, pine, fair resins, herbs, biscuits, lime, medium bitter hops and grass. Body: Mid to full body. Very slick and fairly oozy palate. Mouth Feel: Very good Ale maltyness in a thick background. Moderate grapefruits hops with moderate caramel. Flowery with fair sweetness. Quite piney oozy, herbal and biscuity with lime to round. Nice! Hoppiness: Melon, pepper, white grapes, citrus, floral, light pine, lime and light grass in nose. Grapefruits, floral, pine, resins, herbs, lime and grass in taste; Bitterness is fairly strong for a lasting, mid to high astringent bitter-sweet caramel malty finish. After Taste: Quite dry. Herbal oozy and quite bitter to mouth. Comments: Got to like this one' aroma the most - strong fruity melon and pepper - while the taste is solid caramel malty with fair citrus and ooze. Every character is done just enough to impress with no apparent overshoot or deficit. Solid all round and right on the money!

4.0 Nice drop, with plenty of kick!
4.0 Had the kick I was expecting after reading other reviews. Tasty drop with an IPA big brother I’ll be getting my hands on soon. Pricy for a 6pack but aren’t all craft beers these days.
