4.4 Zwart bier met een bruine schuimkraag. Aroma van koffie, chocolade, gebrande mouten, bourbon, hout, chili. Boozy. Bitter, licht zuurtje. Licht zoet door zwarte bes. Vol en zacht. Top!
4.0 The aroma of burnt grains, coffee, dark chocolate bar. A dark, completely impenetrable beer with a fine-grained, persistent brown head. On the palate, there is bitter chocolate, burnt brown bread crust, bitter coffee, aftertaste with a slight sourness and burning aftertaste. The body is smooth and dense. Small carbonization.
3.9 330ml bottle from the Beer Bank, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a short-lived, frothy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, boozy bourbon, light red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, light sweet, with a big, super rich, slightly oily, red berry fruits, raisins, light dry coffee, light dark chocolate, liqourice, warm alcohol bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Absolutely divine!
4.3 Bottle from Oelkassen. Black with a small brown head. Aroma: Modest bourbon coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Taste: Bittersweet and boozy with lots of roasted coffee, bourbon and dark chocolate. A hint of chili. Thick mouthfeel.
3.8 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral coffee notes with some bourbon notes and light chiles notes. Taste is a mix of black chocolate notes with some bourbon and vanilla with light woody notes with some chiles and light fruity notes. Body is pretty full with good carbonation. Interesting mix of flavours but maybe there is just too much going on at the end of the day.
5.0 0,33 l bottle from Uba & Humal, Tallinn. Very good Imperial Stout, if it would stayed to cellar for years, it would be perfect, I think.
4.3 Aromat: czekolada, kawa, alkohol szlachetny, ciemne owoce, nuty likierowe. W smaku gladkie - niskie nasycenie, pelne, wrecz oleiste - wysokie cialo. Alkohol w postaci bourbonu wyczuwalny - rozgrzewa w przelyk, wyczuwalna wanilia glownie w posmaku. Bogate, szlachetne piwo.
4.2 33cl Bottle @ Drinks of The World, Geneva, Switzerland. Black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, sweet, vanilla, toffe, oak, bourbon. Full body, soft carbonation.
4.2 Ocena wystawiona na podstawie wspomnień, w celu uzupełnienia profilu. Jest to ocena całkowicie subiektywna.
4.2 Bottle. Pours black with a small white head. Aroma is coffee, berries, indeed blackcurrant, although I of course did know about it. A slight, slight vegetal note, but no chili. Some chocolate, cherry, caramel, licorice, wood and vanilla, some bourbon. Big body, thick, smooth mouthfeel. Flavour is rich, complex and sweet, with a deep and roasty dark malt base. A lovely sweetness which is enhanced by the intense vanilla from the bourbon, balanced by a good bitterness. Coffee come to the fore more and more and is prominent in the finish. The finish is long, intense and lingers with notes of coffee, bourbon and blackcurrants. Just a slight hint of chilli. Beautiful beer, another great cellar series from pöhjala.
Extra !!!
3.8 Enjoyed this bottled beer bought on 24.7.20 at Bar Stewards in Sheffield. Very strong imperial stout getting coffee and chilli through the chocolate. Smokey finish.
4.1 Copenhagen 8/2 2021. 33 cl capped and waxed 33 cl bottle from Kvickly at Copenhagen, Central Station, Kbh K. Abstract wet-looking painting on the label. Looks more like a rainy afternoon in Talinn than the prairie. Pours opaque dark brown with a small beige head. Settles as 0,3 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing. Aroma is intense with a strong sweet odor mingling with earthy and more sourish bitter fumes. Dark chocolate, caramel and toffee. Bitter coffee. Tobacco and cured leather. Whiff of compost. Dark sweet alcohol. Light carbonation. Thick, viscous, smooth, soft, fat, almost flat texture. Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a boozy streak. Lingering. Finish is sweet with a boozy burn. Now I can't decide if I ought to move in Põhjala's cellar or if I should become a boozy cowboy.
4.2 Aroma and taste of oak barrels, bourbon, coffee and chocolate. Good bitterness that fills the whole mouth for an eternity. Really good beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
4.0 Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is roasted, coffee, berries, fudge, taste is tart blackcurrant, toffee, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, light chilli.
3.9 offering some retention and lacing. charred caramel fruitiness, bourbonized but not bourbon-soaked dried fruits, no chocolate per se, no chili as well, some coffee grain bitterness/astringency without their fragrance, lots of burnt red fruitiness probably enhanced by currants. moderately low carbonation, light body - a bit thin; semi-sweet woodsy-spicy finish. kinda sweet but kewl woodfire smokiness with a bourbon hint.
4.5 Coffee, bourbon cocktail
4.0 Bottle @home. Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma color cappuccino media. In bocca è mediamente dolce all'attacco con chiusura amara decisa, leggermente piccante. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Non male.
4.8 04.12.2020 AR: Bourbon, Kaffee, Schokolade, Beeren, Chili, Rauch AP: pechschwarz TA: Bourbon, Kaffee, Schokolade, süss, Beeren, Chili, Rauch
4.2 Bottle from Park Fever, Hither Green. Black pour with a tan head. Nose is dark roast coffee, prunes, dark chocolate, bourbon, burnt toast, caramel. Flavours of dark chocolate, coffee, hit of bourbon, light smoke, black treacle. Roasty toasty mouthfeel. Dry, robust finish. Very nice.
3.8 3 finger creamy beige head. Dissipates to 1 finger. Doesn't leave a huge lacing but rather marks here and there. Pitch black beer. Aroma of raisins, coffee, oats, dark chocolate mudcake, a vinous tone and frozen raspberries. So elegant. Tastes of the same. Good acidity to counter the heavy, chocolatey maltiness. A light chili-like presence is here as well. Slight bellpepper bitterness. Amazingly balanced. Mouthfeel is very soft and gentle with warming alcohol slowly coming in, in the most pleasant way. Dense body with a light fluidity. Sticky. Very oily. Medium-low bitterness. Medium-low carbonation. Beautiful but just a little bit too gentle. Overall: Man, you can always totally trust Pohjala with dark beers.. The only one I haven't enjoyed was CocoBänger but that's out of like 6-7 beers and it isn't easy to brew them like this. Just now saw that this is supposed to be barrel aged, sadly can't taste much of it. On top of that, the flavours blend together a lot better when slightly above room temperature and worsen over time. It's lacking a bit of a punch but overall this is just beautiful and drinks ridiculously easy.
4.1 Bottle web SB 2020-12-02 Göteborg , orange wax AR: rich bourbon, vanilla, sweet chocolate AP: brown with golden ruby rim, no head F: bourbon warming feeling, wee berries from the currants, sweet molasses, roasted malt, complex coffee flavor
4.1 Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, a strong black currant aroma and lighter chocolate and coffee, with just a hint of vanilla, chili and charred oak also coming through. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel, slightly peated malt, black currant, dark, bitter chocolate and coffee, with lighter notes of vanilla, chili peppers and just a hint of tobacco smoke, licorice and bourbon-soaked oak. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some black currant, chocolate and coffee lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation. While this a very enjoyable Bourbon-barrel-aged Imperial Stout with a strong black currant presence and good chocolate/coffee notes, as well as nice barrel presence of vanilla and musty oak, I would have loved for the coffee and chili additives to come through a bit more strongly here, which kinda remain in the background a lot more than I would like. Overall, I'm kinda torn on this one; while you could argue that it has a rather nice and mellow balance of flavors going on, it's not quite bold enough for my personal expectations, with the coffee being rather subtle and the chili hardly noticeable at all, although the black currant does come through very distinctly here.
4.0 Pitch black with light brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, licorice.Taste has loads of coffee with some black currant, hint of bourbon and smoke. Full body, average carbonation. couldn't find the chili but other than that good beer
3.9 Bottle, 12.5%. Very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and a little bourbon. Flavour is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, wood, sweet, chilli, warming and medium bitter.
4.3 Pours dark with creamy brown top Nose is bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla cane and dry chilli Taste is sweetness from bourbon and brown sugar, tartness from black currant, very nice swirl from chilli and bitterness from black coffee. Very well balanced with an long evolving taste Another master piece from Pöhjala
3.7 How: Bottle. Where: Systembolaget. Appearance: Dark brown colour with a tan head. Aroma: Roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, alcohol, some coffee, coconut, vanilla. Body: Full body, low carbonation. Flavour: Roasted malt, chocolate, coconut, vanilla, alcohol.
