3.7 Bottle. Pours black with small tan head. Nose is some caramel. Taste is caramel, toffee and coffee bitterness. A little watery but good.
3.6 Had this from a twelve pack sample of six different brews. Drank from a twelve ounce bottle. Nice sweet aromas of malts.Nice light beer, decent carbonation but perfectly roasted with nice notes light notes of hoppiness.
3.1 The bottle says Black ale, the style here is listed as brown ale. What gives? To me it resembles and tastes more like a brown ale. It is although a very black looking beer with a smallish foamy head that fades fast real fast. Thin light aroma of roasted malts maybe some espresso. Tastes of roasted burnt malts coffee and espresso. Hops can’t be tasted but has a measure of bitterness at the end. Has porter and stoudt qualities to it. Medium to thick mouthfeel. Watery around the edges with some grit and astringency to it. A good middle of the road beer no matter what it’s called.
3.0 Bottle from Booths, Media City. Black with no head. Lots of fruit in its nose and almost as much in its taste which includes a sticky sweetness.
3.2 Bottle at Lebowskis. Pours black, hint of liquorice, dry bitter roast, light toffee.
3.4 Bottle: (as Onyx Black Ale) Pours slight rubied, clear black with a heavy, tan head. Caramel malt...roast chocolate malt aroma. Taste is creamy, light chocolate roast.... A little herbal hoppiness. Not bad.
3.5 Black pour with no head, sour malt aroma. Taste is sour, roast malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Nice
3.1 Bottle from The Beerhive. Black body with a thick beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of burnt toast, filter coffee, nuts and even a hint of red wine. Flavour of brown bread, weak coffee and plum. Thin body with a slightly oily texture. Light carbonation. Simple, nice.
1.9 Not too good, kind of tastes like burnt baked beans, more like a lager than an ale.
2.7 @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear, very dark brown with a long-lasting tan head, streaks of lace. Taste is light malt that grows into caramel as it moves through the palate, turning politely bitter in the finish. An agreeable quaff, but nothing exceptional, or even memorable.
2.9 Rated on 4-14-2011 (Bottle) This beer pours a small smooth semi-fizzy tan head that mostly diminishes, opaque dark brown body, fast rising carbonation observed, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malt, chocolate, roasted, and light hops. The taste is malt, some chocolate, roasted, and burnt. The mouthfeel is soft and this beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is just ok as it does not afford much character and the flavor could be enhanced.
2.7 Bottle. Pours near black with a tan head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has notes of dark bread with some chocolate and a bit of roasted malts backing. Flavor is mainly dark grains and dark bread with a hint of roasted malts and chocolate. A bit thin on the finish.
3.7 Bottle at home from brew 52 best point beer so far. complex inviting nose of burnt toast, molasses and a touch of licorice. Hazy dark brown with frothy beige head. medium body and carbnation. toast, coffee, plums, roast cocoa, pretty decent.
2.7 Roasty and toasty, but its not the mosty. Thin and average. Won't seek it out, but I'd take it in a desperate situation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
3.1 This beer looks pretty solid, dark brown with thin layer of disappearing head. Some roasty malt and grain in the scent. Taste is roasted malts and light chocolate. Surprisingly not too bad.
3.1 Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn. Pours out almost black with a thin tan coloured head. Roasted, nutty aroma. Slightly oily texture. Low carbonation. Pretty decent.
2.6 355ml bottle bought last July at Sourced Market, St Pancras in London. Fawn-coloured head to a deep, mahogany coloured body. Minimal lacing. Roasted malty nose, hints of prunes. Sweet taste of black malts and dark fruits. Vague bitterness to the ending. Smooth in the mouth. Gives a rather bland impression (shared with Finn, Tromsø 05.03.2014).
2.7 UK version. Flaske 0,355 l. Spandert av Rune og delt under seanse i WCveien 5 Mar. 14. Dyp dyp amber. Nesten svart. Lavt, litt farget skum som flater ut. Svakt røstet aroma. Smaken svakt fruktig. Antydning til røstet malt. Litt slapp.

2.5 Bottle uk version. Black red colour shortlived tan head. Weak aroma o roasted malts. Taste is sweet nuts and roasted malts. Thin to medium body strong carbonation. Nothing terrible but nor is it special by anymeans.
3.0 Pours dark brown with a smallish head. Toasted malt aroma. Finishes dry for a decent beer.
2.6 355ml bottle. Pours dark black with thin head. Aroma is pretty much of nothing. Weak malts. Taste is much the same...weak bodied. A shame.
3.3 Bottle - Pours black with a thin tan ring of head. Nose is dry and nutty, with some lightly roasted dark malt and a touch of sourness. Taste is nutty, with dark bread and a bit of dark fruit that lingers in the mouth through the long finish. Some molassess and graininess as well. Thinnish with mellow carbonation. Decent.
3.5 Bottle. Black with a small head. Slightly malty and creamy. Pleasant but not one that stands out at all.
3.5 355ml bottle at home, 5.2% version. Pours very dark brown with reddish tints, tiniest ring of off-white head. Aromas of liquorice and dark sugar, some stone fruit. Taste is sweet, with a short roasted bitterness coming through at the end. Not bad.
3.1 From bottle. Pours black with tan head that looks like felt. Nose has licorice and lager yeast. Light body, caramel malt with a bit of roasted malt. Slightly metallic finish. Odd.
2.9 Totally solid black body with a medium purplish-tan head. Smells of licorice and coffee. Taste is deep, mildly sweet with licorice, yeast & hops, mild coffee. Finishes clean, slightly astringent.
