3.612 oz bottle pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of sweet malts, citrus and pine. Taste is malts, citrus and pine.
2.9Bottle. Sweet buttery caramel malt. Clear copper with a small off-white head. Sweet barley malt and herbal hops flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation.
3.1Bottle. Cardboard, orange malt, and orange peel aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Sweet orange/peach malt and moderately bitter orange peel flavor. Okay.
3.7(bottle) My first taste from this brewery and a nice surprise. Well balanced hop flavors without going too far. Elevated alcohol very well hidden. The chosen beer to for an unplanned Reilly’s session. Looking forward to more from Stevens Point.
4.0Nice grapefruit flavor. Interesting but delightful smell. Point did a nice job on this one. I recommend this one to anyone who wants to try an IPA that differs from the others.
3.4Well the aroma let’s on a lot more than the flavor. It is not bad, wonder who owns it as it seems to be a macro in disguise.
4.3Clear copper with a thin foamy white head. Great aroma of passion fruit and bitter grapefruit hoppiness with a sturdy bitter resin backing, mild earthy sweet caramel undertone. Flavor is bitter and resinous but also sweet where it needs to be with caramel covered grapefruit rind, lots of pine, a bit of dank earthy fresh hops, and more leafy bitterness on the finish. Great west-coast IPA from America’s heartland. Just bracing enough to bite, but balanced enough to quaff generously.
3.5Poured an orange-gold, with little in the way of head. Aroma somewhat muted, but includes hops and citrus notes. Flavor was very hop-bitter, with lots of tropical fruit (mango and such) and some citrus. Resinous and bitter finish. On tap at local (Stevens Point) restaurant/pub.
3.5Tasted from a 12oz bottle. It poured a hazy amber color with a light, off white head. Hop aroma with a hint of caramel. Smooth with a bit of sweetness up front and a slightly bitter finish.
3.7Had it out of a bottle. Poured a partly cloudy amber orange hue with a small head. Strong malt aroma with a heavy thick malt taste.
3.7This is the best Point beer I’ve had by far. Poured with small to medium sized, cream colored head that didn’t last too long and no lace. Color is an orange amber with plenty bubble trails. Aroma is is the best part and is very spicy. hop, and malt. Flavor doesn’t have much of that spice, is highly bitter, then sweet, then carbonic tang. Body reflects the high bitterness and clashes with some of the other qualities. Finish is like flavor and body where the bitterness is overwhelming; lasting prominently to the end over a long time .
3.1Sweet caramel malt nose. More malt sweetness, little to much malt and not enough hops for me. Finish was smooth
3.0Bottle. Pours hazy butterscotch, small white head, some lacing. Aroma is caramel and pine. Flavor is the same, herbal, resinous, medium sweet, light bitter. Medium body, oily.
3.112 ounce my wife bought at Good Foods. Amber like in color. Fruity esters. Malty overall. Too sweet and fruity for my taste - but I recognize some IPAs take on this approach.
4.3Awesome, tried it for the first time I will difinately have more. If you can find it you’ll know why it’s now one of my favorites
4.2I have to say that this is the type of beer that seems to suffer by association. The brewery on the whole is below average, but this beer is pretty good. Lots of hops but a nice malt sweetness in the finish, that leads it to be above-average in sweetness but stil quite enjoyable.
3.8Not a bad IPA. Malty on the nose. Nothing really special. Not very bitter sweetness balances it all out. No head. And truly this is a double IPA. I’ve had better.
2.9It poured an amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of floral hops with toffee crystal malts. The taste was boozy and had floral hops and herbal notes. Decent.
3.3A - An amber orange that casts red light from the glass. A two finger off-white head that settles into a nice base of bubbles. Minimal lacing.
S - Sweet bread, buttery toffee malt. Very inviting aroma. Notes of pine and citrus.
T - Malt forward start. Rich malt wrapped with grapefruit and pine bitterness. It has a hefty bit of peppery spice that works with the malt and creates a welcomed dryness. The bitterness balances up on the finish.
Overall I love this beer. It’s between an IPA and a DIPA. Great malt flavor going on. I love the gentle hops profile as well. I could drink this all night. Highly recommended.

2.4Bottle: Labelled as 1857 LTD Edition
Pours nearly clear amber with a short, light tan head.
Sweet, sugary, hop aroma.
Taste is malty sweet and bitter hops.
Rather mismatched flavour blendings...sweetness and hops at odds with each other.
Not too good.
3.3Bottle. Not overly fond of the aroma. Sugar cane and alcohol. Crystal clear dark gold with virtually no visible carbonation nor lace. Very thin white head. Tastes pretty much as it smells. Molassesy hop flavor with a lot of alcohol. The alcohol is what saves this beer. Not sure which hop, or concentration of hop varieties, is holding this beer back. It’s a pretty good brew nonetheless, and I like the new label.
2.8Odd 2x IPA because it seems the initial taste is hoppy, but then falls short of expectations. The palate is very crisp and enjoyable but there is nothing spectacular about the beer overall.
2.8On tap at the brewery. Plenty of hops in the aroma, but not as distinctive in the taste. No bitter punch and a grainy palate. Poured to a deep auburn color and looked quite nice. Considering that Point Brewmaster John Zappa is getting set to retire and will be turning the reigns over to Gabe Hopkins, it should be interesting to see whether average Whole Hog entries like this one get revised in the future.
2.5uh no. Malty, not very hoppy. Slight hop aroma, brown/orange pour. Not only did I not get a hoppy flavor, but not even the imperial taste. Not great. I’ll pass on this one. Just because the style is imperial/double ipa, does not make this a good one. OK at best.
3.9Had this at the 2012 Great American Beer Fest in Denver, Colorado. Nice sweet toffee/roast flavor and scent, finishes with a nice bitter.
3.2Bottle poured a clear golden amber with a small lingering ivory head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness, light citrus and light pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a smooth dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness, fruittiness and light pine with a smooth dry bitter lingering earthy finish.
2.9Bottle. Golden orange body white cap of foam. Sweet orange and floral nose. Body medium and creamy. Toffee , orange, floral, and grapefruit pith burn finish.
3.5Bottle. Nice clear golden orange color, medium full head. Aroma of caramel, floral hop, slight toffee. Medium heavy bitterness. Nice mouthfeel. Medium palate. Creamier texture. Full hop flavors with nice caramel toffee malt backbone. Slightly undercarbonated. Enjoyed this DIPA.
3.3The beer pours a cloudy golden color with a white head. The aroma features a lot of grapefruit notes, as well as some biscuit malt. The flavor is a bit similar. The grapefruit notes still dominate, but I get some pine and a decent amount of bitterness. There is also some nice biscuit malt backbone. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.5Bottle from Capone’s. Pours a golden orange color with some head thar lingers slightly. nose is sweet malt like extractwith mild notes of amarillo and simcoe hops first sip is nice balance of hops and malt, kind of like sugar from jello mix and bitterness which liners nicely. not bad.
