Poperings Hommelbier

Poperings Hommelbier

Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

3.2 A solid staple, no-nonsense regular ale. Light, airy, I always start with this one when in Brugge (except if I start near Midi and La Brocante then it's Saison Dupont).
3.7 Old rating from 2017 - 330ml bottle from my visit to Watou, pours amber with a white head. Aromas & tastes of pear, herbs, spices & yeast. Medium body. Very dry & crisp finish
4.0 Flasche 33cl. Leicht trüb, massiver Schaum. Obergärige Fruchtigkeit, belgische Karamellmalze und 4 Poperinge-Hopfen - sehr schön. So also schmeckt ein Leffe ohne Zucker und Billighopfen!
3.8 Clear golden color, huge head. Subtle, sweetish, matured smell. The taste is a wonderfully smooth and balanced combination of sweet and floral notes, oranges, herbs with a subtle hoppy and a bit warming alcoholic finish. Nice carbonation and a medium body. Great blonde ale!
4.1 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a hazy golden/orange colour with a large foamy white head. Aromas similar to a wheat beer with bananas and cloves, hints of coriander, orange, apples, pears and spice. Taste has orange zest, peppery spice and a hoppy bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied with lively prickly like carbonation on the palate and a fruity and spicy hop finish. Very nice. Excellent beer.
3.4 Tipo pale ale, sabrosa
3.5 De Decervecitas. En copa Grimbergen. Jugando a Gris. Notas herbales interesantes junto con perfil típicamente belga logran sobresalir algo por encima de un exceso de carbonatacion que seguramente aplana lo que podría haber sido una experiencia bastante mejor
3.0 Cloudy white head on brown-gold body. Aroma: belgian yeast, spice, grass . Taste: lemon fizz, red apple, dry spice, savoury yeast.
3.7 Golden orange, highly carbonated big white head which slowly disperses. Aroma slightly spicy. Tastes somewhat spicy, hints of pear. Spicy sweet finish.

3.5 Large foamy head left a froth on a hazy dark golden body. Yeast & outdoor aroma. Medium bodied, light carbonation & a clean back. Belgian yeast, hints of Brett, pithy, hoppy & lemon tastes with a long tangy finish.
3.7 330ml bottle at Gollem, Amsterdam on 29/11/2008. Nice aroma of cloves, banana, bready malt and yeast. Almost like a strong witbier. Soft body and good cereal and grainy flavours.
2.9 Molt de gas
4.3 bière remarquable. houblons belges
2.5 Carbonatura incontrollabile, troppo troppo frizzante, almeno la mia bottiglia. Era quasi impossibile da versare. Al palato niente di che abbastanza luppolata
3.5 Magasztalt golden ale atom habbal. Edeskes illat. Az alkohol kisse kierzodik. Jo, de a belga vonalon csak atlagos.
4.1 January 19th, 2014 - My first visit to Brabant in South Park puts me in touch with a refreshingly novel list of Belgian Brews. San Diego's beer scene is rich with hops, but anemic with the traditional Belgians. This is a beer between blonde and brunette, with a fine head, and a powerful smell of banana and clove, not unlike a hefeweizen. The stand out quality is the flavor, which is beautifully and symphonically mild and balanced. Simmered pears and toasted bread appear on the tongue, with subtler touches of sesame oil and almond, and each sip refreshes this delightful flavor. I could drink a barrel of this, and it's at that point I recognize why the Belgian monks in posters and art always look so cheerful and so round.
4.3 Pours a cloudy orange with lively carbonation. Aroma is orange peel, coriander, grass, star anise and light caramel. Taste is sweet with a long spicy slightly sour finish. Light mouthfeel but not watery. Huge amount of flavour that goes well beyond the aroma. Delicious.
3.5 Met Bart Verhaegen
3.7 250ml bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a big, frothy, lasting white head. Plenty of lacing. Aroma of spices, herbal hops, grass, bread, earth, hint of banana. Taste is similar to aroma. The banana is slightly more prominent and the spices are mainly pepper and coriander. Medium bodied. Smooth mouthfeel. A very enjoyable sipping beer.
3.5 Onlywood, Louvain-la-Neuve - 23/01/2018
4.1 Beery Christmas : tartine bleu poire goûtu épaisse houblonnée ++ dorée
3.3 Donkergeel butter met ruime witte schuimkraag. Begint licht zoet, honing, eindigt hoofd, licht bitter
3.4 Clear golden appearance. Aroma is hoppy, citrus and malt. Flavour is fruity, hoppy, bitter, malt and dry.
3.5 33cl Bottle. Got it as a present, never heard of it. Didn't expect much, but I was pleasantly surprised!
