3.7 Hops hops hops hops...yep. That’s what you’ve come to know with almost all of these Port brews, especially the Anniversary brews. It’s damn good stuff, not taken the realm of amazing or anything, but yes, expect and get what you expect, a Hop Bomb!
3.4 Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber/orange with a small off-white head. Bit of lacing. Sweetish and tart (dark) fruity aroma with some faint hop and spicy notes. A bit cloying. Dusty, malty notes as it warms. Flavour is pretty much the same. Some ’burning’ notes of alcohol. Lots of body, but a bit overwhelming. Sweet finish with notes of spice and candy. More burning alcohol notes, lingering. Not what I had expected – too sweet and fruity, and not hoppy enough for an IIPA (according to my liking). Disaapointed at first but it grew on me and is actually a rather okay beer in its own right. 30.07.10.
3.8 A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. Would get again fo sho. Really tasty, kind of heavy bodied, big bold hop profile to combat that body, need to share the bottle, but very tasty and different from their normal DIPAs.
3.7 Clear light amber body with a small white cover. Fresh citrus nose - tangerine, orange and pineapple, some berries, and a bit of cotton candy. The taste is moderately sweet, moderately bitter with a real nice, juicy sweet fruit character - peaches, tangerine, orange and berries. Medium/full body is chewy with moderate and soft carbonation. Solid.
3.4 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy fine to medium sized tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a softly carbonated very hazy dark orange brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy and floral. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of caramel hops and malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.
4.0 A hazed dark amber ale with a thin off white head. An intense meaty hoppy aroma, with light menthol, exotic fruits, lichee and watermelon, maple notes. In mouth, a smooth sweet malt with scotch whiskey tones, floral pinhey hops, maple, coffee notes, rich and intense. Tasted with Diogene, GRM, Probstk, and Grant, May 19 2010.
3.7 Bottle shared by Lubière. Merci! Muddy brown-beige with a thin beige head with poor retention. Aroma is fruit cake, spices, caramel, cookie dough and sweet malt. Flavor is caramel, fruit cake, brown sugar, hops and a bitter aftertaste.
3.3 Bomber shared by Lubiere (merci!), served cold in a goblet. 19MA10. App.: Very murky deep amber with an off-white rim. Aroma: Rich, oily, thick, sweet, fruity malts, strong, stinky spicy hops. Palate: Medium+body, fairly spare yet prickly effervescence. Flav.: Spicy orange peel, lots of thick crunchy malts, meaty/brothy notes, really heavy and fruity, peppery, some alcohol; quite sweet with good bitterness. American over-the-top.
3.5 Appearance: Pours a fairly transparent orange with honey edges. 1 finger off white head with minimal retention and minimal lacing. Smell: Caramel Malt, Floral Hops, Slight Alcohol tinge. I can tell this one is going in the DIPA direction I don’t prefer. Taste: Same as the nose. Great if you like your DIPA’s to have a strong caramel malt backbone. A bit too malty for my personal preference. Mouthfeel: A bit syrup like and medium to thick bodied. Carbonation is a bit lacking and brew is a touch chewy. Drinkability: A bit too thick and syrupy to get a good drinkabiliity rating. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-28-2008

4.1 Thanks Mike! A- Body is a quite foggy, medium, rusty amber hue. Pours with a nice 2 finger foamy white head that eventually subsides to a thin collar. Very little lacing is left behind in the glass. S- Nose is full of piny hops. Behind this is a hint of alcohol and sweet caramel malt. T- Lots of piny and earthy hop flavors upfront with a very faint malt backbone. The pine flavors really come through for the finish as well as a big grapefruit flavor and a hint of caramel sweetness to keep things in check. A whole lot of piny bitterness, resiny bitterness, piny hop flavor, and a hint of alcohol warmth linger on. The overall flavor of this beer reminds me of the picture of the cactus on the bottle. P- Medium carbonation and a body with a lot of smooth hop oils and hints of phenols present. O-This is a nice DIPA and it was a great opportunity to try it. The ABV is somewhat detectable and this is a slow-sipper because of the flavor intensity anyway. Its still a very enjoyable and good DIPA though. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-06-2008 00:54:26
3.3 Bottle. Being almost 2 years old, this lack alot of the orginal hoppy flavors, but it is still quite good. Pours a nice cloudy orange/amber color with a bubbly white head, that generates a fair amount of lacing. Aroma is still quite hoppy especially compared to the taste. I get quite a big amount of pineapple with some mango, citrus, grapefruit and a solid caramel and biscuity malty backbone. Flavor is quite boozy. It is quite bitter andstill has a slight amount of hops, especially pine and some grapefruit. It is quite malty, with alot of caramel malts. The body is medium with a very soft carbonation. Overall a good DIPA, but would probably have been exceptional if it was fresh!
3.7 Bomber from City Beer in SF. I know people are going to shoot me for reviewing a year and a half old double IPA, but looking at the earlier reviews, I don’t think this beer has gone downhill all that much. Seems it started off fairly malty and sweet, and this has worked well as it has transitioned to more of a barleywine-like beer. Pours a brilliant clear amber color. An aggressive pour yields only some bubbles and leaves a small ring around the glass. Aroma is very interesting and barleywine-like. Caramel and brown sugar, with just a little bit of hop character and some light fruitiness. Flavor is very malty and sweet. Caramel and brown sugar jump out, along with toffee notes. The hop bitterness is definitely still there, and hops show up on the flavor as mostly grapefruit, resin, and tropical fruits, pineapple in particular. A little watery on the mouthfeel with somewhat low carbonation. Medium body with some substantial hop oils. Overall really nice though! I’ve been on a barleywine kick recently, and this stacks up pretty well if you categorize it as such.
3.5 Bottled. The aroma has grapefruit, some pine, malts. Hazy, orange coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is bitter, little harsh, has malts, and the fruity/citric hoppyness. Okay, straight forward.
3.4 Unclear amber of color with a small white head. An aroma of hops, grapefruit, pine, caramel and sweet. A flavor of hops, sweets, grapefruit, and pine.
3.9 Bottle:   Dark straw, very dirty and hazy, bit of an orange hue, moderate off-white head, sparce lacing.   Heavenly sweet and citrus malt nose.   Slightly Tropical and also with a hint of spices, much like a Winter Ale.   This one is certainly malty, bitter, but also has a good citrus sweetness that balances it out rather well.   Moderate to full bodied, mouthfeel could stand to be a tad meatier.   Finishes clean, lingering hop bitterness and citrus sweetness.  Good stuff.   Nice to see a Californian IIPA that isn’t so far out of balance with their overly hopped beer.
3.9 Thick caramel color with virtually no head. Aroma of pine, hops. Flavor of caramel, grapefruit, and a solid hop-bitter finish. Potent, big beer with some floaties. Very nice.
3.3 Bottle at hom e... coipper .. big pine resin nose ... thick sweet syrupy resins ... quite barley wine line ... toffee and over heavy
3.4 23rd August 2008. Cloudy amber beer. When very cold direct from the fridge I found the taste like a harsh barleywine - salty and grapefruit bitter. As the beer warmed up a little the bitter grapefruit was replaced by bitter orange and some peach. The saltiness remained in the background though. Intriguing.
3.8 Bottle shared with my bro for my b-day. Aroma is lemon with a fair amount of piney hops. Pours golden amber with pale white head. Lots of light citrus flavors and tons of hops. Bitterness from the hops linger around until the next sip. Very refreshing double IPA.
3.5 orange, smooth small offwhite head. aroma of flowery hops, lots of malt, some bitter hops, some aged or old hops. very sweet malty base, lots and lots of hops some flowery some old some bitter, faint licorice, ends bitter hoppy. overall a very nice Double ipa, which now seems to have gotten some old beer notes too, sort of becoming a little barley wineish.
3.8 Bottled. Amber coloured. Unclear. Dense beige head. Aroma of citrus, pine, caramel and fruits. Flavour of flowers, pine, caramel, sugar and fruits (plums). Medium to full bodied. Ends on a quite heavy dry bitterness. Quite delicious.
3.7 Bottle from Crown#6. Pours cloudy/murky color of apple cider. Nose is juicy fruit hops and bubble gum. Flavor is smooth and mellow with a definite hop bite and piercing alcohol punch. On the tangerine/citrus side, with a very overall smooth character. Not bad for a year old, but definitely mellowed out some. 3rd anny is up next:
3.5 From notes found recently, dated july ’08. Bottle. Pours a dark amber, medium off-white head. Citrus and hops attack the nose. Hops, citrus, pine and malt dominate the flavor profile. Dry finish.
3.4 22oz bottle shared by a friend. Opaque copper pour with no head. Sweet and grainy malt aroma with some citrusy hops. Grainy and cerealy flavor with bitter hops, some citrus and a balanced finish. Would have liked to try it fresh.
3.3 Dark orange brown color with a small head. Aroma has a ton of hops, pine and a touch of sweetness. Flavor is very strong oily hops. Very bitter and lingers a long time.
3.6 Hazed dark copper color with a creamy white head. Aromas of light fruit, caramel and subdued citrus and floral undertones. Flavors start out sweet with some light caramel, Bits of orange peel, light wood, touch of honey and hit of alcohol. FInish is quite malty and just a few remnants of grapefruit. A nice brew, but I think it is showing its age and is now more a strong ale than an IIPA.
2.4 Refrigerator aged until 2009. Pours hazy but bright orange that is much lighter than the 3rd Anniversary here next to this 2nd Anniversary in adjacent pint glasses. Nose is barleywine like with sweet malt aromas, some holiday spices with pine, and maybe something like those chocolate oranges at Christmas. On the palate this may have well just been a barleywine. Hops are subdued and the big malt shines through.
4.3 from crackedkettle.com - slightly hazy dark orange colour with a quite fast disappearing beige foam; solidly hoppy with notes of quince and pine needles; full-bodied and oily; very very bitter and with a long peppery fruity (quince dominates here too) and resiny finish - a powerful hop bomb
4.0 Bottled 65cl. Courtesy of Bov. A huge amount of quinces in the nose. Full bodied. Sticky. Great lacework. Beautiful hop profile. Some peppery components showing up on the swallow. Long complex dry finish. Thanks a lot Bov!
