Port Brewing Old Viscosity

Port Brewing Old Viscosity

Definitely not your Dad’s Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that’s as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

4.1 650ml bottle. Pours black with a big tan head. Aroma of dark malts, dark fruit, chocolate, liquorice. Taste of rich dark malts, quite sweet, dark fruits, toffee, molasses, chocolate, roasty and a nice bitterness, just a hint of booziness in this, it's really well integrated. Medium-full bodied, soft carbonation. Really nice impy stout.
Men kärvt.
Men kärvt.
3.5 Aromat średnio-intensywny, karmel, melasa, suszone owoce, delikatne nuty palone, niuanse bourbonu. W smaku pełne, słodkie, z gęstą jakby oleistą teksturą, palony karmel, ciemna melasa, nuty kawy. Finisz lekko drewniany, z delikatnym posmakiem bourbonu.
3.8 From Feb 2008 I bought this bottle from South Bay Drugs & Liquors. Thanks Joey! Another adventurous dive into the world of Port Brewing. Here goes: A very nice pour with about an inch of foam and apitch black colour. The foam quickly recedes and there's not much lacing going on. Lots of dark fruit in the smell with good side notes of toffee and burnt malt. Taste wise, the first thing I notice is the fruit... Plum and dark cherries, followed by raisins, toffee, a touch of chocolate, vanilla, and there's that bourbon, though I don't think it's going to take center stage after more sips but I could be wrong. Further sips in and the bourbon just hangs around in the background and that's fine by me as the fruitiness of this Strong Ale has all my attention and deservedly so. I notice the cherries the most when I swish the beer in my mouth and dog gone it, I'm doing that more often than I normally do with a beer. Stop it, Bill! ;^) I'd say it has a medium mouthfeel and the carbonation is lightly done and it finishes with a slight tartness(from the hops?) This is a high quality and very complex brew and is pretty darned drinkable despite the 10%abv(read: hidden very well) I'd gladly drink it again. The only thing I'm wondering is...how is the Older Viscosity going to stack up against this? I think it will be a tough act to follow..
4.4 Looks great with two fingers of tan head on a black body. Aroma leads with milk and dark chocolate, then licorice and coffee round it out. Taste is surprisingly mellow. Good flavors of chocolate sweetness and mild coffee bitter, hint of licorice. This bottle has been resting for couple years now. Texture is smooth and soft. Outstanding brew.
3.7 Whisky, czekolada, karmel. Ciemne owoce. Likierowate. Drewniane. Smakowało motzno.
3.4 Rami Rami is drinking an Old Viscosity by Port Brewing Company at Metro Wawrzyszew Taki normals bardzo sympatyczny. Bez wrazen wielkich ale bardzo sympatycznie pijalne
4.0 September 2017 - Dusty 1 (American) pint bottle at home in Richmond as 'Port Brewing Old Viscosity', 10%, a few years old - not sure how old exactly but could be as old as 2010. Watching Ulster v Scarlets. Opaque black with a huge dense foamy brown head. Aroma is creamy plain chocolate, deeply chocolatey, chocolate hobnobs. Body is rounded with tingly carbonation. Taste is dark chocolate, spicy, earthy, burnt biscuits, nice floral hop. Very drinkable for the ABV, and has held up well with age (probably due to the level of hops). Dangerous. I liked it more and more the more drunk it made me. (8-4-8-4-16=4.0)
3.8 Black color, large brown head. Light roasted aromas with dark fruit, iron, syrup, oak, malt and smoked meat. Roasted and bitter taste with alcohol, smoke, wood, earth, smoked meat and hops. Medium bitter finish. Aftertaste reminds me of a black IPA.
3.0 Butelka. Pusto w aromacie, nieco karmelu i klepki. W smaku trochę dębiny, nieco torfowe (?!).
3.9 (542 nap) Hatalmas, szivacsos, sokáig kitartó barna hab, egészen sötétbarna szín. Csokis, kakaós, aszalt gyümölcsös illatok. Fekete csokis, kakaóporos, kávés ízvilág, enyhe aszaltszilvás aromával és markáns fűszeres vonással. Nehézsúlyú versenyző, enyhe szénsavtartalommal és erős keserűvel. Finom, de nekem túl erős a pörkölésből eredő keserűje.
3.6 Pours a dark body with a beige head. Aroma of syrup and plums. Malty taste with tones of bread.
3.7 Najpierw zacznę od wad. Metalicznosc wyraźna, dosyć wkurzająca. Alkohol dosyć wyczuwalny ale nie spirytusowy. Teraz plusy. Wali w czerep! W taki pozytywny sposób. Ostre, karmelowe, słodowe. Rozgrzewa. Sporo dojrzałych owoców.Charakterne. Ciekawe piwo, albo polubisz albo odrzuci.
4.1 Svart, mörkbeiget skum. Doft: torkad frukt, fikon, fruktigt syrlig, kaffe, lite ekfat, aningen metall.
Viss sötma i ölen, men ganska tillbakahållen. Lång eftersmak. Gott! Drar något mer åt en stout än strong ale.
4.7 Bottle (1 pint 6oz) at home. Spectacular beer, intensive aroma, dark colour, including the head, and great coffe flavour
4.1 Zwarte kleur met bruine schuimkraag met grote vlokken. Geur: geroosterde mout, metaal, koffie, drop. Smaak: hoppig, licht zoet, alcoholisch, ietwat fruitig. Romig mondgevoel. Afdronk: geroosterde mout, wat sinaasappel, alcoholisch. Lekker en complex.
4.0 W aromacie rodzynki i wiśnia w likierze.
Ruikt geroosterd, hout, rood fruit, kruidig, koffie. Smaakt geroosterd, koffie, chocolade, kruidig.
3.9 Mooie zwarte kleur met een volle kraag. Ruikt vol koffie, vanille, mout, gebrande. Smaakt vol koffie gebrande, houtig.
3.9 Mooi zwart, ruikt erg zwaar. Houtig. Smaakt ook zo. Lekker, beetje veel gebrand.
3.9 Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a pure dark black color with a nice looking finger’s worth of off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Adequate messy lace. The aroma had some roasty coffee beans up front with a slight milk chocolate, and then dark chocolate, quite robust. Vanilla and some woody sweetness round it out. The flavor pulls a drying sweetness from the blend of the wood to the coffee beans and malts to play with a rugged semi-sweet and bitter aftertaste. Leads with a semi-sticky sort of roasty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fair sipping quality about it. Good carbonation. ABV felt right as where the brewer said it does. Overall, says it’s an American strong ale on here, I thought this was an American Imperial Stout. That’s what I rated it as and believe it to be. Wonderful as an American Imperial Stout, nowhere close to an American Strong ale.
4.4 From the cellar, i think i bought this from Carl @Nectar West End, It’s black, thick and the light brown head falls to 5mm cap, clings to side of the glass. Aromas of Oak, whiskey, caramel, chocolate, dark berries and licorice. tastes of bitter dark chocolate, woody oak, Whiskey and licorice. Sweet and oily though has a long roasty bitter finish. Numbing sensational ale.
3.7 Black liquid with brownish head. Aroma of herbs, alcohol, chocolate. Tastes same, medium+ sweet, medium bitter. Medium body, average carb, long fin.
4.1 Bottle. Pours dark brown with medium brown-fluffy sticky head, stays. Aroma: hay, chocolate, coffee, herbs, weak mint. Taste: medium bitter, coffee, chocolate, weak smoke, dry. Full body. Long roasted bitter finish. Nice.Well balanced.
4.4 Wathing snooker the masters 2017. what a beer. pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, dark fruits, and caramel. Extremely rich and complex palate, with dark dark chocolate, dark fruits, a little bourbon, vanilla and oak. Absolutely wonderful treat.
3.5 Pitch black oil...some dark roast aroma. No carbonation no head, but that’s is ok, had a nice roast flavor some sherry and alcohol heat.
4.2 Bottle at home. Pitch black colour, big brown head. Nose is roasted, cocoa, light soy sauce. Taste is medium bitterness, light coca, roasted malts , coffee. Aftertaste is lingering bitterness, with coffee notes. Full mouthfeel, decent alcoholic warmth. Very nice beer overall.
