Port City Optimal Wit

Port City Optimal Wit

The perfect blend of spice is found in Optimal Wit. This Belgian style witbier is crisp & citrusy with layers of flavor that evolve in the glass. It is brewed with Virginia wheat, Spanish orange peels & coriander. Grains of Paradise give a subtle, peppery finish. It tastes like Sunshine & Happiness!

3.6 A wit that is actually hefeweizen-like. A better than expected bold body with a good amount of malty banana yeast phenols. Sk lb adventkal
3.2 Pours a bright hazy yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of coriander and citrus. Taste has coriander, nutmeg, wheat base. Palate has a nice spiced finish, cloves, coriander, some lingering citrus. Refreshing.
3.3 Blind spot beer for me. Can't believe I hadn't rated it. Pint at the brewery is a lightly hazy, bright yellow with some bright white head.  Nose has flowers, orange peel, clove.  Flavors of malt, honey, chewed bubble gum, banana.  Finishes dry.  True to style.  7 4 7 3 12
3.7 Bottle poured a hazy yellow with a small lasting white head. Aromas of wheat, yeast, coriander and a hint of citrus. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of wheat, yeast, coriander and a hint of citrus with a smooth dry lingering coriander finish.
2.3 April 9th, 2016 - This is a faint, almost ghostly beer, with just a slight hint of popcorn and vanilla ice cream on the nose. It's a curious combination, and might be a result of some off-flavors, but it's not so off putting that I don't try a taste. The flavor is lighter than expected (even controlling for the style) with a lighter carbonation. While the taste is a bit bland, the somewhat flatter body is more unforgivable.
3.3 Cloudy light straw colour with thin short lived off white head. Yeasty aroma with hints of lemon and gentle spice. Slightly sweet taste with flavours of lemon, yeast, grain and spice.
3.1 33cl bottle from Beer52. Medium white head. Hazy golden pour. Ok but not a beer style that excites me.
3.8 Low slicked pale haze with translucent edges. Aroma fresh ground peppery seed, tangy peel, bubblegum and white pepper. Really good authentic wit with peppery but not overly perfumed spice, a hint of bitterness, lingering wheat biscuit, juicy dried citrus, lemon sherbet.
3.3 Thanks to SimonTomlinson. Hazy straw appearance. Aroma is grassy and clove. Flavour is banana, clove, wheat and grassy.
2.6 Bottle from Beer52. Clear and very pale gold with a white head and an aggressive, prickly fizz. Weetabix, lemon, sweet floral hay and coriander seed with a dry finish. Some banana bread in the aftertaste. True to style, definitely; sadly it's never been a style that I've liked very much.
3.6 Fabulous witbier. Lightly hazey with a small head. Orange peel and spices (almost Christmassy) on the nose, which follows through in droves. Banana lingers for ages after each sip. Very drinkable and very enjoyable. I want more!
2.8 Bottle, from Beer52. Cloudy lemon yellow, thin short lived off white head and low condition. Gently spicy nose with hints of corriander, some lemon citrus and a little clovey yeastiness. Pleasantly sweet in the mouth with lemon and yeast, some grain and a delicate spiciness, finish is brief, with some lemon citrus and a slight dry corriander note towards the end.
3.6 [12oz bottle from Beer52.] A hazy pale amber pour with a vestigial white head; aroma and yeast and coriander; light and spritzy in the mouth with a subtly citrus taste, blended with tea, and with a trace of banana in the background; then a dry finish with a hint of pepper and orange zest. A nicely put together Witbier.
3.4 Tight fluffy white head left a collar & spotty cover on a cloudy pale lemon coloured body. Yeast & clove aroma. Medium bodied, smooth on the front with a tickle on the back. Yeast, spices, clove, chalk & banana tastes with a peppery finish. Perfect replica of Hoegaarden!
3.6 Bottle. Bright yellow, syrupy pour, with touch of bubs. Light and airy. Lots of wheat, bit of spicy and citrus. On the lighter side as witbiers go. No astringencies, seems well-crafted. Well done.
2.2 Kind of tastes like ham lol
3.1 355ml bottle: BB 27th Feb 2021. Poured into a 'Good People' of Birmingham Alabama glass at home on 3rd May 2020, during the virsu Lock In. Misty dull yellow body, thin and swiftly departing white head. Wheaty, yeasty and spicy, with some fruit peel traces. Mild ginger like hotness also.
2.9 Lockdown May 2020. The day we cleared the bottom shelf of sweets. 355ml brown bottle, unfiltered, from Beer52 as part of their Virginia pack. A clean and pleasant wheat beer. Touches of lemon, and a mild peppery finish. Yeah, quite drinkable without being remarkable. Sometimes all a brewer needs to do is make an honest beer. [2.9]
4.1 Lovely mix between a Belgian “blanche” and American Ael
3.2 Bottle from Beer 52. Light citrus, yeast and spice. Easy drinking, went nicely with salmon.
3.0 Decent Wit, orange, coriander seed and pepper, a little clove. Hazy pour, minimal head. OK.
3.8 Pleasantly crisp and sweet with lots of orange, some wheat malt and subtle coriander.
