Port City Porter

Port City Porter

Our robust Porter shows bittersweet flavors of coffee and dark chocolate. It has very complex malt character enhanced by yeast fruitiness.

4.2 Bottle from Beer52. Late night beer at the end of a hard week whilst binge watching the superb British sitcom "Coupling". Black with a beige head and a middling fizz. Port and chocolate and wood and a hint of smoke. Rich full mouthfeel. Dryish, with a sticky, lightly roasted finish. Really good.
3.7 Jet black beer with thin but lasting creamy beige head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Similar flavours in fairly rich taste plus hints of liquorice, dark berries and a creamy sweetness. Roasted malt bitterness plus hints of fruit and spice in the finish.
3.5 Bottle, from Beer52. Jet black, thin but sustained creamy beige head and gentle condition. Pleasant bitter chocolate powder, a slight creamy sweetness and a muted blackcurrant fruitiness in the nose, quite full and sweet in the mouth with a slight liquorice note, some fruity berries and a hint of roasted barley bitterness, in the finish there is a lingering bitter chocolate note, some fruitiness and a trace of spiciness at the end.
3.5 12 fl oz (355ml) bottle via Beer52; BB 18th Feb 2021. Tanned foam on the black body of this decent Porter. Chocolate and coffee esters rule the nose, taste also chocolate and coffee to the fore, semi-sweet, semi-dry, semi-bitter.
3.5 [12oz bottle from Beer52.] A glossy black pour with a thick cream head; fruity aroma; soft and smooth in the mouth with chocolate malts, demerara sugar, raisins and a firm bitterness; then a smooth warming chocolatey finish. An enjoyable porter, one to sip slowly.
4.2 Beer 52. Lovely. Dark malt chocolate, treacle. Best porter
3.5 Decent porter, roasty, chocolate and coffee. Pours really dark mahogany brown with a tan head. A bit of berry fruitiness provides balance, nice lightly spice malty finish.
3.6 Rocky tan head left on a rich dark mahogany coloured still body. Malt & brown sugar aroma. Medium bodied, soft & smooth on the palate with a light back. Sweet, malt, demerara, dark berries & tangy tastes.
3.9 Rich and robust with full body. dark chocolate and roasted malt dominate. Quite balanced and easygoing overall
3.1 Lockdown April 2020, the day we went to Tesco. 355ml brown bottle from Beer52 as part of their America pack. I like this. I like malt focused beers that are balanced - not too sweet and not too bitter with roasted malts and/or hops. This does that. A good drinking beer. It doesn't fly, but it is tasty and very drinkable. Shame the bottle is so fucking small. [3.1]
4.0 De Beer Republic. En copa Teku. Preparando segmentacion de red. Porter muy correcta, con ricas notas tostadas. Se bebe sin dificultad aunque le falta un plus de excelencia para resultar sobresaliente
3.6 355ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with a medium head. Aroma is beefy bitter roast coffee. Taste has cola, roast and chocolate. Beefy finish.
3.3 In einer Bar in DC. Klares dunkles braun-rot, fast schwarz. Kleine Beige Schuamkrone. Geschmack: stark malzig, geröstetes Malz, Schokolade, Aroma: recht süß, geröstetes Malz, Schokolade, rote Früchte, etwas Portwein. Bitter.
4.1 Dark black color with tan head. Dark malt aroma. Taste of dark malt, dark chocolate, a hint of coffee. Nice body. Really good porter.
3.5 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Hazy ruby/brown body with a beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of raisin and chocolate. Flavour of rum and cocoa. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. Rich and fruity.
3.6 355ml bottle. Jet black colour with minimally late awakening, average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, a touch of dark and burnt caramel. Taste is slightly bitter and minimally sweet, roasty, minimally spicy, chocolately dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, some coffee, cocoa, some caramel, burnt caramel, a cautious fruity touch of cherry, plum and dark berries. Slightly creamy texture, smooth, silky and minimally sticky palate, fine, minimally prickly carbonation. Well balanced, homogeneous, compact. Very nice.
3.6 Notes of roasted malt, a bit of brown sugar and hazelnut, some coffee. Slight silkiness on the mouthfeel. Surprisingly good.
4.0 Can’t believe I have not rated this yet. Black with tan head. Robust dark roasted malty porter. Dry finish. Good body and mouthfeel. Can’t really fault it as it is a great representation a porter
3.4 Draft pour with a dark brown black color and a lasting thin head. Aroma of vanilla and char. Notes of vanilla, bourbon and a hint of char.
3.4 Very nice solid porter. Coffee flavor with dark fruits. Smooth. Low carbonation. Very drinkable. Well done!
3.5 Keg at Old Street Brewery. Low key black coffee aroma. Dark and glossy. Very thin beige head. The light bitter hovers, before we descend to a sweet creamy coffee. Medium bodied . Creamy. Average-fizzy carbonation. Relatively abrupt finish. Nice bit not blowing me away.
3.3 Pours black with two finger tan head. Aroma is roast and molasses. Taste is brown sugar, moving to roast and light coffee notes. Finish is roast. A good porter.
3.4 Keg @ Brewski, Chorlton. Black with an off-white, small creamy head. It's a crisp dark malt ale, with its 'porter' styling understated in its taste, but this remains very drinkable nonetheless. There's some smokiness in both aroma and taste.
4.0 (nez µ-chama, ~réglisse, bouche ample, corps aérien, plus douce que sèche, ~choco sucré, finale/last grain torréfié, facile)
4.1 Bottle. Nice dark pour with decent head that recedes to a fine lacing (so, standard porter-looking goodness). Lots of dark chocolate malt in the nose, hint of coffee and licorice. Chewy mouthfeel, malt character hits the back of the throat, slightly creamy. NOICE one. Edit: slightest downgrade on a re-rate, but still quite good.
4.0 4/I/19 - on tap @ The Rake (London), BB: n/a - (2019-21) Thanks to Thirstybird for sharing today’s beers! Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. 3.7 Bottle - 12oz. Pours a dark brown, cloudy body with a thin, lasting, beige foamy/creamy head. Nice malty aroma with chocolate and roasted cereals hints. Its well balanced malty taste carries chocolate, coffeeish, and roasty notes. Alcohol is well hidden. Ends with a good roasty finish. Well done.
3.8 12 oz bottle. Pours an opaque deep brown with a tan thick head that is gone quickly. Coffee and alcohol aromas with some chalk. Nice big dark bitter baking chocolate tastes with a side of the tongue lingering chalky bitterness. Almost no carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. A really good porter.
3.3 12 ounce bottle. Smell grains and molasses. Dark brown in color. It has a thin head. Just a little film on glass. Taste molasses with coffee overtone. Some taste of burnt sugars also.Medium bodied. Lingering burnt sugar after taste. Some dark fruit taste also. Decent for the style. Cheers!
