Porterhouse Nitro Red Ale

Porterhouse Nitro Red Ale

Irish red ales? Yes, we know. Sweet, a bit cloying and, well, no thanks. So, it was brave of us (we say bravely) to put the words “red ale” after our own moniker. Why the hell would we do that?

Because this is a real red ale, an ale to conjure with that happens to be reddish in colour. More importantly, it’s exuberantly, joyfully fruity with a bit of malty caramel.

But sweet? No way. Balanced, yes. Fresh, yes. Aromatic, yes. In fact, we say yes, please.

Malts: Pale ALE Malt, Crystal malt, Wheat Malt, Black Malt

Hops: Galena, Nugget, East Kent Goldings

3.1 Bottle 330ml at home. From Alko. BBE 2021-02-25. Pours deep mahogany with thin off white head. Flavor has malts, caramel, dried fruits, nuts, bread. Medium body, average carbonation, bitter finish.
3.8 Cerveza roja estilo irlandés , de color cobre y mucho sabor a madera, cuerpo denso
3.5 0.33 l bottle as 'Porterhouse Red Irish Ale' from 'Craft Bier Bude', best before January 2021. Clear, ruby with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity-resiny aroma of caramel, raisins, marmelade, some pine and a touch of tea leaves. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, rather fruity-resiny taste of caramel, raisins, tea leaves and some marmelade, followed by a short, gently bitter, quite herbal-resiny and a little grassy finish. Medium body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Nice Ale, not really classic a Irish Red but somewhere between English and American taste-wise.
2.8 0,4l on tap @ Bar Dom. Pours clear deep amber with a medium creamy head. Aroma is full sweet malts. Flavor is sweet full nutty malts with some hops. Tasty. (747314) (140320) (140820) Re-rate. A small taste @ the flagship Alko, press blind tasting. Pours clear chestnut with a low creamy head. Aroma is sweet nutty malts with some caramel. Flavor is dry bitter malts, ashtray, hops. Thin as well. Not my favourite.
3.2 Tap at Cervecería L'Artesana, Oviedo, Spain. Pours a beautiful deep amber, with fluffy and very fine whitish foam. Aroma is intensely earthy, underwood. Body is average, like carbonation. Taste is moderately sweet, with a little toasted bitterness. Final is average.
1.0 Sweet and Malty but so boring it hurts
3.1 0,33l bottle from K-Supermarket Seilori, Espoo. Clear amber beer with medium white head. Aroma and taste has fruit and caramel. Not too sweet, even some drier bitterness in the finish.
3.0 Sampled from the tap at Porterhouse Temple Bar. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has bread and sweet grains with some biscuit and straw backing. Flavor has sweet bread and straw with biscuit underlying.
3.5 Lecker
3.8 On tap at Porterhouse, Dublin, Ireland. Clear amber with a creamy off-white head. Malty taste, some fruity elements, very subtle bitterness. Good
3.4 7th Sep 2019, part of a three beer flight in the Porterhouse, Temple Bar, Dublin. Red hue to it's colour, off-white head. Fruit and caramel in the aroma and taste, not as sweet as most 'Irish Reds' and a little more bitter in it's finish.
3.0 This is a backlog rating from 2011 from a bottle shared by Tmoney99, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time. Words to describe this beer are toasted malts, caramel, not to be revisited.
Fester heller Schaum. Optik top! Es riecht nach Kork und nassem Holz. Antrunk herb und holzig. Karamel Malz. Etwas dünn. Rotes Malz im Abgang.
3.3 230519. Tap at O'Connell's, Tampere. Pours clear copper with a nice head. Aroma toffee, crystal malts, nitro. Smooth texture. As expected. Not Bad.
2.5 A strong malty smell, bread, light alcoholic. The beige head is small and milky, it disappears fast. The body is dark red. A rather bitter and bready taste. The body is medium strong, light creamy with a normal carbonation.
2.7 Bottle sample at a tasting at zvsn place. Clear copper with beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt and some fruitiness. The flavor is mild sweet and mild bitter with notes of caramel, malt, bread and citrus. Medium-bodied.
3.5 Aroma of fruits, malt and hints of grass. Amber with a tan head. Medium sweet and medium bitter. Medium body with average to soft carbonation. Overall a decent Irish Red Ale.
2.6 Bottle. Clear amber. Aroma of toasted bread, caramel, slightly roasted. Sweetish, malty, dark bread, brown sugar, bitter herbal finish. Light-bodied, dry.
3.0 A reddish brown beer, a head is quite small and blond. Aroma has strong caramel, some wood and fruitness. Taste is quite sweet and caramel, then also bitterness and saltyness (as like in the Oyster Stout). Almost medium bodied. Decent.
3.2 330ml bottle from Otdokhni in Moscow. Pours clear amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, light roastiness, bit spicy. Taste is malt, toffee, grassy hop. Dry finish.
3.2 Tap@o’connells’s. Amber color with off-white head. Aroma has caramel, malt and hay. Taste is malty with quite long somewhat bitter aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, malt toffee and some dark fruits.
3.1 Bottle from Edeka - dark amber color, offwhite head. taste is malty, toffee, medium sweet. slightly bitter finish. okay
Aroma: karamel, granig-moutig, kruidig, tikje fruit. Medium body. Smaak: volmoutig, lichtzoet, karamel, krudig, licht hopbitterheid. Goed amberbier voor zijn alcoholgehalte. Past in de herfst.
