3.3TYpical strong Belgian blond beer. Grainy, fruity and yeasty of course. Has some herbs as well.
4.0Dark maroon color. Caramel, dates, and dark fruit on the nose. Burnt malt, toasted bread in the taste. Roasty!
3.633cl bottle as Deventer Dubbel from the Poort van Kleef
Appearance Amber-red colour, foamy beige head. (2 fingers), some lacing
Aroma: Apple syrup (sweet fruity, molasis like), floral hops, caramel -Very nice and powerfull allthough sweet.
Taste: Follows the Aroma but much lighter. and much more standard . so i what’s left over is a more standard sweet fruity caramel molasis taste with some spices and licorice notes an a slightly sourness in the finish.
thin body, average body
Now I wonder what a heavier bodied version of this would bring. Like most Sint Canarus beers it’s very easy going. And i this case I thought they did not get everything out of it after the great aroma.
3.6Amber-red colour, foamy beige head. Red and dried fruits are prominent in the fruity and floral nose and taste, as are malts and candy cane/brown sugar adding to the sweetness, some bitter hops, a little sour along the tongue, some spiciness and even some liquorice and anise. Quite complex, but relatively thin bodied, sadly, but therefore easily drinkable. Low carbonated.
Couleur ambre moyen soutenu.
3.8A dark ale ..one that i like..intense taste and heart warming pleasantly sweet.
Nice taste and a lots off aroma’s. .
3.8Deep red-brown with rather large tan head. Intense aroma of baking bread, red fruits, molasses. Full body. Just a little alcohol. Flavor matches although not as intense as aroma. Pretty strongly sweet though, bread and dark fruits. Overall it’s probably a little too sweet and syrupy, but the aroma especially and also the flavors are really good.
3.5Bottled 0,33L. Elegant ruby color, fraught and hazy aspect with good bubbly presence and a creamy head of long duration. Intense reddish fruity and malty aroma, notes of cellar, yeast and stum. Medium prickly taste, enouth malty and medium alcoholic perception, equilibrate and sweet mouth. Good long perception.
3.5Bottle: Served in a shaker:
What the fuck is wrong with this beer: massive gusher and when poured out completely, which took ages because of the lively beer and foam, there are loads of yeast sediments in my foam...
Anyways, let’s get unto the beer:
Medium to bigger sized beige light brown ish foamy head on top of a deep dark hazy to murky brown colored beer.
Aromas of carbo gass, malts, nuts, leaves, toast, toffee, autumnal herbs and some berries.
Flavours of toffee, raisin, dried prunes, autumnal leaves, bitters, herbs, nuts, toast, spiced, yeast, grains, hint of cacoa, hay toast and some bittersweets.
Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, dried prunes, some hay and grass, some yeast and leaves.
Low to medium carbo, creamy spiced mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller bodied and a light creamy texture.
Loads of yeast which makes this look like a fucking chocomel! Aside from that irritating gusher, a decent beer.
2.2Brown, nice head (in an offnote, bottle almost exploded when opening). Nose: something sourish, chocolate powder. Taste: lot of CO2, yeast. Finish is sweet, with again chocolate but feels like something is wrong on this one. Have to try this again, had it better before.

3.2Hazy reddish brown colour, firm beige head. Aroma of apple, iron, apple syrup (appelstroop), malts, candy and yeast. Sweet malty flavour, apples, bitter roasted malts. Finish bitter roasted malts and iron.

3.133cl bottle @Kaisla, Helsinki. Dark brown in color, thin white head. Aroma has dark fruits, spicy notes, dough and caramel. Heavy sweet taste, licorice, bread and dark fruits. Alcohol is well hidden, but overall not really to my taste, too sweet as well.
3.6Bottled. Pours dark brown in color with a small head. Dark sweet raisins, sweet brown sugary notes. Sweetish taste, some toffee, dark syrup and
brown sugar in taste.
3.6July 2011. From bottle. Poured cloudy dark brown with a beige head. Flavors of plums and raisins, somewhat sweet but with some earthy notes as well. The finish is a little sticky.
3.433 cl bottle.
Originally rated on 20101029.
Pours copper color with a medium head. Aroma of caramel malts, ripe fruits and yeast. Flavor of toffee, caramel malts, fruits and spices.
3.5Mild syropy nose. Pale brownish head. Clear dark reddish color. Roasted sugar caramel hops and raisins in the taste. Average hops.
2.9A dark brown ale with a thin creamy and big bubbled brown head. In aroma, sweet candy malt with dark fruits, cherries, and light molasses. In mouth, a sweetish candy malt with dark fruits, molasses and light honey. Boring.
3.2Bottle. Reddish, hazy. Dark berry/fruity nose. Some marzipan, red currants, dark cherries, plums. Very aged aroma, with vinous tones. Body is fullish. Some murky oak, dark fruits, berries, some green apple. Yeasty esters. Very strange brew. Feels almost vinous, but with sweetish marzipan. Very flavourful though.

4.075cl bottle from Delices et Caprices shared with Steve.Poured a dark redish brown with a deep off white head.Immediate dark fruit aromas with toffee and caramel. In the taste a lovely mixture of toffee, plums, figs and butterscotch all nicely balanced and blended together making a smooth drinking and tasty beer.On warming a little, other flavours surfaced including raisins and dates. The alcohol in this one is well hidden.Near syrupy smooth and delicious beer and really glad we tried it in the rare 75cl sized bottle.
3.8It has been a long time since my last Belgian ale and it showed as I found this one to be spot on as a slow sipper. Into a chalice at cellar temperature. Couldn’t be more excited to get in the glass as a plume of foam rises quickly quickly toward the lip. Settles out a half-half mix of well conditioned sparkling mahogany beer and towering, tannish head that adds creaminess to the mouthfeel and leaves a thick lace. Complex nose of figs in syrup, stewed rhubarb and sweet dark stone fruits, treacle and tar, blood and rust and just a hint of alcohol spice. Ripe, juicy plums and dried fruits dominate the palate with a backbone of butterscotch, dark toffee praline, wood and mild rust in the back. Alcohol is well hidden though there is a hint of sherry in the finish. Good length; a continuation of the palate. Nice body; not as big as anticipated but definitely well poised. The carbonation nothing but a prickle to the tip of the tongue. Smooth, almost oily for the remainder. Delicious overall. Really pleasant drinking. (33cL, bottled on 31/10/11, Cellarbrations Carlisle)
3.7Bottle at Monks. Cloudy brown with a big pillowy off-white head. Well blended sweetish doubel. Raisins. Dried figs, plums, and dates. Medium dark caramel. Big lace forms over time. Very nice slightly chewy double, almost a quad. Vanilla caramel with some nice darker malt notes to balance.
3.4Pour is a cloudy brown with a large tan head. Aroma is some dark fruit and loads of brown sugar. Flavor is some sugar, figs and butterscotch. Finish is sweet sugar and some plum. Lots of carbonation with this beer. But it is still a very flavorful Belgian dark ale.
3.2Dark brown coloured and unclear. Has an off-white head, medium duration. Aroma has notes of dark sugars, faint toasted, yeasty. Flavor is heavy sweet, more sugars, light acid, light bitter finish. Creamy, syrupy texture and soft carbonation.
3.2bread, grass, amber, hazy, off white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, creamy, light nice long finish,
3.3Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Amber colour. Moderate malty and light hoppy aroma. some yeasty notes. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.
2.7Bottle. Pours dusty brown with tan head. Nose/taste of toffee, caramel, bread, water taffy, dusty grains and malt. Finishes with a dry gravel mouth feel. Medium body.
2.6Brown 33cl dumpy bottle, best before 23 Apr 2012, been in my stash for some time: opened and reviewed Sunday 22 May 2011.
Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru glass: the sediment seemed to stay in the bottle, so my glass was full of a dark reddy brown beer which had a very slight haziness to it. On top a well formed and deep off-white head of tight bubbles.
Malty molasses fill the nose, treacle and toffee notes complete the smells I found.
Roasted/toasted malty bread taste, with an alcohol undertone. Sweet and tangy, but lacking something when comparing with the better beers within this style.
I thought the beer a bit lively and over carbonated, the alcohol was too prominent also, the body not possessing enough strength or complexity to control it.
My wife liked this beer more than I did, the malty sweetness winning her over, compared to my more measured overview which pushed it towards more average scores for the style.
3.8Bottle (33 cl) from beerplanet.be. Clear chestnut, medium beige head. Nice earthy and woody aroma, slightly nutty, with notes of dried fruits. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Semi sweet, medium bitterness. Very nice!
