Prairie Ape Snake

Prairie Ape Snake

Ape Snake is a dark, dry hopped farmhouse ale. We’ve taken our dark farmhouse base and dry hopped it with Falconer’s Flight and Centennial hops. The combination of yeast and hops create an explosion of flavors, and this beer will continue to develop as it ages. Check it out in 500ml bottles and on draft at your favorite restaurants and bars!

3.8 Red wine, bretts, rather dry in flavor, rotten eggs, and a hint of caramel. Unique one!
2.9 Deep, pitch black coloured body with a slightly clear glow towards the bottom, still about 95% opaque. All of that with a thick, five centimetre tall light brown head that tops the beer very nicely. Aroma of yeast, dry funk, grasses, floral and herbal notes and a big dose of tart fruits near the end. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal notes, all with a bitter malt backbone showing some earthy and dry malt flavours and finishing with a ton of yeast flavours. Aftertaste has quite a bit of dry and earthy flavours with a big grassy finish along with a bunch of musty, basement-y funk throughout and an elegant hop profile near the end that leaves no bitterness, but some mellow perfumey notes. Overall, quite a pungent and earthy black Saison with some good flavours, but a bit too one-sided and simplistic, especially from this brewery. Definitely not worth the premium price for this one and definitely not worth trying to find unless you love Black Saison's or can't find any other options. Again, I can't understand how reputation ratings go so highly, but people love certain labels on the front of their beers. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased on 01-October-2017 for US$8,49 at BeerTopia in Omaha, Nebraska, sampled in my hotel room here in Omaha, Nebraska on 04-October-2017.
3.7 01-MAR-2017, bottle @Morten, preparation for 3x50 :-) Black with a lasting, tan head. Aroma is saison with spice and yeast. Taste is more roasted but still saison-like. Slightly tart, dry. I am not a huge fan of these Black saisons.
The Sour Dubbel Trubbel Clone!?😉
3.8 Bottle: great head and very dense color. Aromatic yeasty profile with lots of hops. Very interesting. The palate isn’t as dark and toasty as expected. Slightly ashy finish. Another really solid Farmhouse from Prairie.
3.9 16.9floz (500ml) bottle, no freshness date found, $4.50 sale priced single, tulip glass. One aroma characteristic stands out, and that is a certain kind (cannot remember which one...) of pipe tobacco. Its appearance is not how it tastes nor smells - dark opaque brown with a large light colored head. It tingles my tastebuds with tempt down spice and cardboard (better though than this description). Another unique Belgian style ale from Prairie - dry and medium-full in body. By no means a traditional saison as listed.
3.2 Shared bottle. Hazy brown beer with large, quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma of spices, herbs, flowers, dark fruits, light citrus. Taste is light+ sweet, medium bitter, spice, floral, dark fruit, citrus. Medium body, average to lively carbonation (too high). More spices in the finish. Very interesting.
3.8 Flaska från Beergium. Prairie-provning. Mörk, brunsvart med högt beiget skum. Snygg!
3.9 Pours dark brown, almost reddish black with beige long lasting foamy head. Aroma: citrusy, spicy, floral, fruity hop profile barnyard, funky...flavour in more intense: the same hop character mentioned by aroma, barnyard, lightly sour, salty, medium bitterness, astringent, bitter finish, medium body, oily feel, creamy, lively carbonation.
4.1 Pours dark brown with large creamy beige head. Aroma is minerals, funk, pine, some caramel, toast, leather, ginger, soap. Strong but a bit strange aroma. Light sweet, medium bitter, medium sour. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, salty and pleasant finish. Strange marriage of saison and black ipa. Highly intriguing, very tasty, easy to drink, another solid from Prairie.
3.5 Bottiglia. Il gusto al naso finisce sullo speziato. L’intensità olfattiva è elevata e la persistenza olfattiva è apprezzabile. Il cappello è di schiuma abbondante. Le bollicine sono fini. La carbonazione è abbondante. Il colore è scuro impenetrabile. Il corpo è strutturato. Il dolce è medio. L’amaro è medio. L’acido è leggero. L’aspro è leggero. L’intensità gustativa è elevata e la persistenza gustativa è buona. Il finale è bruschino. Il retrogusto è intenso. L’aroma in bocca riporta sentori di etilico e pipì di gatto.
3.5 500 ml bottle picked up locally from notes. Pours a dark cola brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have mildly tart citrus and dark fruit character, chocolate, earthy, herbs, lightly toasted grains, interesting.
3.4 Slow gusher. Pours almost black. Smells sour and lightly hoppy. Taste is tart and roasts. Light roast. ALL HAIL OUR BUDWEISER OVERLORDS.
3.1 Keg at Ratebeer Best Beer Festival. 31/01/2016. A murky brown coloured pour with a lasting light tan head. Aroma is tangy, pine, apple, some grapey fruits. Flavour is composed of woody yeast bite, pine, wood, light bretty funk, Palate is yeasty, dry, highish carbonation. Not a big fan of this.
3.9 500ml bottle. Pours dark brown colour. High beige head which disappears quite quickly. Sourness, spices, barnyard, brett, notes of berries, dark fruits in the aroma. Dark fruits, brett, sourness in the taste. Notes of cocoa, dried apples. Brett. Dry finish. Leathery and earthy notes in the aftertaste. Light bodied, really well drinkable, well balanced, medium carbonated, excellent brew.
3.5 Draught@CBC Blue Session 2016. Black colour, minor head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some citrus and mild chocolaty and yeasty notes to it. Flavour is citrus, fruity, some yeasty and mild toasted sweetish notes. Nicely balanced and wellworking dark saison.
3.4 500ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Hamar. Solid tan-coloured foamy head fading over a dark brown coloured body. Clingy lacing. Aromatic with juniper and pine. Comprehensive taste profile of wood, brett, pine needles and juniper, slightly vinous impression. Sweet and tart ending. Fine bodied. Refreshing, just a little bit unvaried. (Shared with friends, Ottestad 04.03.2017).
3.6 Bottle from Gambrinus. Pours a deep brown to black with a huge tan head that lingers. Lots of woody, earthy brett in the nose. Dark cacao, tart fig and more wood. Good carbonation with a cola-like mouthfeel. Long, lingering dry bretty finish with some light tartness.
3.6 Bottle from Beergium. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with citrus, earthy notes, yeast, ripe fruits, hops, wood, a bit of roasted malts and spices. Bitter finish with citrus, yeast, ripe fruits, spices, hops, a bit of roasted malts and nuts. Strange, but good saison.
3.5 An amazing , Brett and dark wood hop aroma . From there, things dull a little, it’s a tasty farmhouse saison with the malt giving an added interest.
3.4 29th July 2016 Craft Tottenham Court Road. Keg. With Nina and Ted. Almost opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Quite a sourish Flemish Red character to the ’saison’. Light bretty bitterness and a little red wine. Mild sourness. Touch of dark chocolate. Light finish. Tasty enough.
3.9 Kran. Aromat bardzo fajny, rustykalny i chmielowy. Smak wytrawny, owocowy, dziki.
3.8 Postpanel Rami Rami is drinking an Ape Snake by Prairie Artisan Ales at Chmielarnia MarszałkowskaBardzo bretowy aromat, troche ipowy smak, farmhousowo przyprawowe klimaty, bardzo ciekawe, inne, fajne Rami Rami: Te brety w aromacie sa bardzo rodem ze stodoly, stajni czy czegos, a nie skorzane Ocena potraktowana skryptem do przeliczania ocen (uzgodnienie UT/RB).
3.6 Bottle at home. Pours dark brown to black with a large, frothy beige head, long retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy bandage phenols, somewhat peppery with earthy wheat malt and medium toast malt, and earthy yeast and hops. Flavor is peppery and bandage phenols, toast and earthy wheat malt, light bubble gum, dates and figs with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost blackish beer with a big, creamy brownish head on top. Aroma has notes of barnyard funk, grapes, roast, leather and light saison funk with a touch of citrus hops. Flavor is mildly bitter, moldy, has some hops in there, some roast and some funk. Awesome combo of two of my favourite styles, which is very nice. Mouthfeel is silky, aftertaste is slightly funky acidic and carbonation is medium high. Nice one.
4.2 Bottle, 0.50l. Pours almost black with large frothy light brown head and nice lacing. Aroma of barnyard, citrus, berries, funk, a bit of sweat, caramel and mild roasted malt. Taste starts with medium sweet roasted malt, chocolate and black currant, following is yeasty, funky, leathery and roasty, mouthfeel is a bit dry, warming and mild spicy, while finish is moderate bitter. Medium body, slick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Ape star...
3.4 Celebrating a solid offer on our house a beer poured from a growler. I am kind of mixed on this beer.
3.8 Bottle: Brown color with a tan head. Hoppy sour aroma. Smooth flavor with a dry hop finish.
