3.8 pint 9 bottle shared thanks tracey. poured a pinkish hue with no lacing and no head. this is a mild sour to say the least with a very pleasant sweet cherry aroma and flavor. mild in all senses of the nose and tongue this is very good and tasty. love the cherry flavor through and through. this is a beginner sour for some but if you don’t like that over the top make you pucker sour this is for you delicious.
3.8 Bottle-purchased at a liquor store in Yukon, OK Pours hazy deep orange hue with a small fizzy white head around the rim of the glass. Nose is crazy cool-lots of brett-ish funk, sour notes, earthy esters, bing cherries, but the brett funk its predominant in the nose. Flavors exhibit the tart bretty yeast contrasting with the tart sour bing cherries. This actually melds pretty well together albeit a very bold flavor. As it warms, the balance seems to show much more, melding the funk and the bright tart cherries together very nicely. Solid offering. Mine was bottled and brewed in Krebs, but i thought all production was done at their facility in Tulsa now?
3.4 500ml, 2014 bottling. Aroma is indeed tart and funky, with notes of cherry, some horseblanket and spicy Brett character, faint lemon citrus, a touch of sweetness and pale malt in the background here as well. Cloudy light-medium orange-amber color with a very thin, fine, fading head. Flavor profile is gently tart and sweet to start, showing some cherry throughout, and finishing drier and with plenty of Brett yeast character, funk and leather, predominantly. Mouthfeel is very gently acidic, somewhat thin and low in effervescence, body is medium. Certainly good, but not quite as outstanding as the other beers I’ve had from this brewer.
3.4 18 Apr 2015, bottle. pinkish yellow, a tad hazy and some sediment. nose is lightly tart cherry and funk. appropriately named. thin body and moderately fizzy. nicely tart but not too tart, mildly funky. pretty good.
3.7 Aroma: Cranberry, Mild Cherry Appearance: Deep Amber Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head Ring, Some Lacing Taste: Tart Cherries, Cranberries Mouthfeel: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Tart
4.0 This is a tasty, mildly sour beer w/ just a touch of cherries and it by no means resembles cherry soda-pop so that works for me. It is a light red brown in color w/ a head that foams up initially but fades fast. The first thing that hits me in the nose is a slight, bretty funk which wanes to a round, sweet cherry smell with a hint of banana and clove around the edges. This is a little sweet and relatively full bodied but vigorous carbonation cuts this and it drinks like a glass of champagne. The tartness here isn’t really a centerpiece but an accent to that touch of sweetness and the subtle touch of cherries. As it warms, the sourness becomes a bit more prevalent and the carbonation softens some, giving it a richer texture. This is one that starts out nicely and grows on you as you drink it, which is a sign of a great beer.
4.1 Quickly fading crown atop the murky orange with pinkish hints. Cherry funk sounds about right, this is explosively fruity with citrus and cherries being the main appearances, but also eminently funky, showcasing the whole brett family, from the wild and flowery daughters to the leather-wearing father, to the granola, earth laden son and the horse-loving, tempery mother. Not agressively acidic, but this is fairly sour, slightly puckering and really dry. Soft vanilla whispers soften up the finish which is surprisingly without a hint of alcohol. Vinous tannins add some texture to this otherwise relatively thin and not particularly effervescent beverage. Extremely likeable, complex, fruit-forward, sugar-less and super aromatic.
3.7 Hazy/soft reddish pour with a thin fizzy off white head. Nice aroma, glad to remember funk and not sour here. Definitely funky, not sour. Cherry skins and earthy funk with some cherry pit/almond showing. Clean cherry in the flavor with a peppery finish. Light cherry skin acidity.
3.6 (500ml bottle) Pours a murky red body with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherry, oak, marzipan, leather, and mustiness. Flavor of cherry, oak, brett, and subtle vanilla with a moderately dry finish.
3.9 Appearance: pours with a medium peach head, the beer is a very clear golden color with strong darker almost maroon hue, head settles into a tiny head Aroma: cherry, sweet tarts, funky, not hard to pick up but subtle and tame Taste: sour throughout, tart, cherry is obvious, even some hop bitterness on the finish Palate: very light mouthfeel, leaves mouth dry, light froth to it, sour aftrrtaste Overall: another solid offering from Prairie, the cherry is not overpowering at all which I like, has a very nice sour and tartness, delicious
3.8 Cloudy purple muddy color. Aroma is cherry skins, brett, basement, oak. TAste is tannic bitterness, light tartness and fruity sweetness.
3.7 This beer pours a slightly hazy pinkish-gold color with a medium foamy bright white head that diminishes steadily to a dense film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of mildly funky cherries and yeast. Medium body with flavors of semi-tart cherries, wheat and herbal yeast. The finish is mildly tart with a funky cherry aftertaste. Above average overall.
3.8 Bottle: Poured a light reddish color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of tart cherry notes with light oak notes is quite nice. Taste is also dominated by tart cherry notes with some light acidity noticeable. Body is average with good carbonation. Love the fact that this beer was very easy to drink while presenting a good level of complexity.
3.5 Bottle (50cl): Thanks GT2: Served in a Chouffe glass: Small quick disappearing (off) white head. Leaves a headless hazy (red) pink dusty colored beer. Aromas of funk, wood, plastic, dust, some wild yeast, some hints of cherries, pencil sharpener and manure. Flavour has lots of funk, wild yeast and tartness but I miss some Chery action! After a while some minerals come through with a slight nasty bitterness. Strange tartness that’s quite lingering... Aftertaste is a mix of nasty bitters, tart, grains, warm, some cherries, wild yeast, funk and a hint of wood. Low to medium carbo, light creamy tart mouthfeel, medium bodied. Not bad, but I miss some action and balance.
3.6 Sample at Sour Sunday 2015. Hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma and taste of funk, cherries, oak, fruit and some hay. Smooth and with a light body.
3.7 Pours pinkish amber with a soft pink head. Aroma of cherries, yeast and mild funk. Only lightly sour with a slightly puckering finish.
3.5 Pours a gold with a small head. Nose is very funky with some sour cherry. Medium body. Carbonated mouthfeel. Flavor puckers you yup with tartness and funk. Barnyard finish and again sour cherry.
3.9 1/30/15. 500mL bottle from Happy’s, Cedar Falls. Pink pour with a smal pink head that sizzles away, mild lacing. Nice aroma, good and funky, loads of cherry, doesn’t seem very sour. Nice flavor, Brett, funk, cherry, not as sour as I was hoping. Tasty.
3.8 500ml bottle, light and good cherry flavors, funk and Brett, the funk is a little weird and chemically which is it’s only flaw . Another good one from prairie
3.6 Bottle: Clear, red....amber..with a small white head. Lactic cherry scent. Slightly funky/yeasty sweet red cherry flavor. Nicely restrained tartness.
3.3 Bottle from Tipples. A slight gusher here but not too bad. Pours light pinkish orange with a big bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. Big vinegar aroma, definite tart cherries in there, sweet cherry juice, dry aroma, some vanilla or oak notes. Flavor is lightly tart cherries, a bit sweet, not much funk or lacto sourness here. Sort of like fizzy cherry juice. Light bodied at first but the cherry comes off a little syrupy, big carbonation, prickly on the tongue. This doesn’t taste bad by any means, but not Prairie’s best effort as it lacks the funk and other sour notes one would expect from a beer like this.
3.8 Pretty light rose pink. Funk, light cherry. Wheat, funk, lactic tartness, earthy cherry, lot of stone fruit flesh as it warmed. Not overly tart, which is great. Not terribly complex but a great aperitif or food beer. Gonna work great with this here pork loin and tart cherry balsamic reduction.
2.9 Looks like grapefruit juice, sour acidic and straight forward, one dimentional though,...not worth the price friend payed..no depth
3.8 Bottle. Funky barnyard malt and light cherry aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Light cherry sweetness up front followed by a strong acetic barnyard. Nice body. Very pleasant mixture of flavors.
3.4 Pours light pink. Light funky nose. Taste has some distant cherries, light sourness, lacto. Light body.
3.4 Bottle from unknown. Pours a reddish pink, little bit of white head. Aroma vinous, yeasty, like a wine cooler. Body fluffy, very dry, finish acerbic, slightly sour, more vinous character. Not awful, just not my thing.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a slight reddish tint. Aroma is wine-y, but not really in a good way: cherry and fermented cherries, alcohol -- like a not entirely successful homebrew. Taste is of tart cherries. The tartness works well with the light, but fizzy carbonation. Definitely sour, but not overly so; there is enough residual sugar to provide some balance.
3.6 Hazy pink pour with just a slight white head from a 500 mL bottle. Funky cherry nose. Nice funky fruity taste too. Slightly sour with some acetic notes in there.
4.0 Shared bottle. Pours hazy amber with creamy white head. Aroma is brett, spicy notes, fruity esters, oak, with some cereal and toasted malts. Flavor is super smooth with great malt character, outstanding fruit character, beautiful sour notes, and light oak notes. Light body and medium carbonation.
3.2 On draft. Cherry color. Has a slight tart cherry but the taste is more of a red malt base covering it up. Kind of disappointed in the lack if sour. Need more cherry and funk in this cherry funk.
