Flavor starts spicy as well, some caramel and chocolate sweetness, toasted malts with lots of bitterness, some brown sugar and distant syrup notes on the aftertaste. 3.7Flaska från Drikbeer.
Svart med brunt skum.
Doftar kanel, kryddnejlika och muskot.
Söt, pepparkaka, kryddnejlika, fyllig.
4.2Aromas of cocoa, coffee and the spices - cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Taste adds a little dark dried fruits. Mouthfeel includes some warmth from the alcohol and spices. Moderate bitterness. Complex and balanced. Very good.
4.0Tap at drunk uncle. Minty and thick , but it works rather well. Fudge covered candy canes, some nestle quik, candy. Quite drinkable for the ABv. The original pastry gang does it better still. 8oz is more than enough. I’m sure I had this before via husom but backlogged. Good.
2.92015 and 2016 Vintages Vertical Tasting
Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, one to two centimetre tall rich brown head that stays afloat for a while. Aroma of deep spices with nutmeg, canella, nuts, vanilla, lactose, coffee and especially anise/licorice throughout here with a lot of malts, alcohol, yeast and pungency, without much mild qualities or room to hide from the pungency - this is quite potent, and while the five year old bottle was a bit more mild, it was still very strong in the nose. Medium to Full-bodied; Very strong earthy, nutty, grainy and especially spicey flavours dominate with a ton of anise, licorice, coffee, lactose, nutmeg, canella and prune flavours - this one is very strong with a bunch of chocolate malts towards the end that don't hide the alcohol in the slightest bit in either batch, but the 2015 bottle is a good deal smoother than the 2016 batch. Aftertaste shows some deep robust qualities with the chocolate, lactose, alcohol, metallic notes and especially the spices that don't give any leniency, even at the end - this is pungent to the finish and not for the faint of heart, and probably not for any normal human being to sample two of these at the same time, even in the small format! Overall, definitely not one of my favourite beers and much too spicey and pungent for the style and the licorice, chocolate and earthiness just don't blend well to me and don't settle well over time - this is deep and robust, in a not-so-good way. It wasn't awful, but I wasn't a fan of either batch and of the two, the 2015 was a good deal better than the 2016 batch. I sampled these two 33 cL bottles at the same time on Christmas Day (after all the madness) on 25-December-2020 at my house here in Washington a few hours before leaving on Christmas Vacation 2020 with my family. The 2015 bottle was purchased at Whole Foods in New York (Columbus Circle), New York on 27-November-2015 for US$9,99 and the 2016 bottle was purchased at Super Market Liqours in Fort Collins, Colorado on 17-March-2016 for US$6,99, and since that time I saw the current batch (2020 Vintage) on sale and passed up on it entirely due to me not liking either of these two.
4.1Poured from bottle to glass and it pours black as motor oil with a cocoa brown head that stays a short time only. The aroma is definitely cocoa with hints of coffee and earth. The taste is smoothe as silk with a bite at the end with moderate bitterness. The high alcohol content is hidden well and is an easily drinkable beer. However, it is definitely not as good as some of the other beers from this brewery.
3.7bottle. Spices and malts - thick and unqiue. Definitely tasted like Christmas. Cool beer
3.9Pours a pitch black with a thin brown ring. Bold aroma of cinnamon and roasted malts. Thick body. Smooth with a light tingle on the tongue of sweet cinnamon flavor. Hides the alcohol well. Warming finish and lingering malty cinnamon aftertaste. Good but fairly one dimensional.
3.7From a 12 fl. oz. bottle bottled on 10/26/2020.Dark brown to near black pour with a modest fading tan head. Whoa! Cinnamon galore on the nose. That's the main course I get with maybe some roasted dark malts and a chocolate cupcake. Floral perhaps. No booze for 13% so that's positive. The mouthfeel is smooth and bold. The taste is sweet and just too much cinnamon. It's like drinking a Cinnbon without the frosting. Maybe some nutmeg shows up and some allspice. Too over the top for my liking but I could see why some folks would love it.
4.0A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma,, sweet fruity chocolate dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, sweet chocolate malt with dark fruits, ginger, coffee grind, musty character, alcohol warmth, very nice and rich. 2014 bottle.
4.2Bottle. Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of cinnamon, chocolate and coffee. Flavor was quite sweet with chocolate, cinnamon, coffee, vanilla, brown sugar and some ginger spice.
3.9(Bottle) Dark brown body with a small light brown head. Powerful aroma is full of spices; maple syrup, cherry, chocolate; dark roasted malt. Medium-plus body; oily and sticky mouthfeel. Very sweet; cherry cough syrup; nutty, spiced, chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg. Almost too sweet, but the aroma and flavor are different enough from similar sweet, spiced ales/stouts that I recommend it.
3.8Poura deep, opaque black with a 1-finger dark tan head. Aromas of coffee and cinnamon with a bit of char. Thick and full-bodied with some oil to it. Finish is long, with a light boozy astringency. Strong flavor of cinnamon sitting atop the coffee.
4.3Draft poured in a snifter. Black with a solid lasting tan head. Served very cold muting the aroma of coffee. The flavor profile jumps with chocolate, cinnamon, and ginger spices. It is moderately sweet with the alcohol hidden deep into the finish. Very tasty.
3.7bottle with 2018 label - very faded in color. Nose is muddled. sip adds spices and typical imperial stout maltiness. decent. not worth the price.
3.92019 bottle. Flat black pour with a thin light beige head that recedes quickly to a film. Sparse patches of lace. Aroma of malt, spice and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, cinnamon, vaninlla and coffee. The finish is roasty with a chocolate malt and cinnamon aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
4.6a VERY plesant surprise. Has fewer flavors/ingedients than other Prairie stouts but wow this is basically a perfect stout for what it is. Reminds me of Holiday Weekend whic is a mix of Christmas Bomb! and Weekend. Like drinking the blood of the Gingerman. Very high quality brew not just for Christmas!
4.5/5
4.12018? Btl pours a super dark opaque brown color with a tan fizzy head that vanishes fast leaving no lace on glass. Smells of raisins, gingerbread cookies, molasses
cinnamon, prunes, Christmas morning! Tastes of brown sugar, gingerbread, cinnamon, raisins chocolate, vanilla, nutmeg, and a hint of alcohol. Big body, minimal carbonation (possible age), coating, oily mouthfeel, and a sweet, spicy finish!
Well this beer is exceptional! Christmas in April!
Spectacular!
3.8This beer is all about cinnamon. You have the coffee flavor but it is full of cinnamon. You have the chocolate flavor but it is mixed up with cinnamon. You have the molasses but it is infused with more cinnamon. Nice body. Low carbonation. Well done!!!
3.816 ounce draft at Lizard Party In Cleveland Ohio! Smell the cinnamon. Black in color with thin beige head. Taste the cinnamon and the malt. 13 percent alcohol and alcohol is well hidden. Smooth. Exceptional beer here if you like holiday spices. Cheers!
3.8Draft at Bru Craft. Opaque black pour with a low dense light brown head. Coffee. Dark cocoa. Cinnamon. Ginger. Vanilla. Nutmeg. Hazelnut. Molasses. Burnt marshmallow. Soft nose when cold. Broadens as it warms. A nice Christmasy version of the original.
