Prairie Flare

Prairie Flare

Flare (yes, that’s how we are spelling it) is our gose that we have added citrus fruit to. This beer is slightly tart, a little salty, and has a nice balance from the fruit and spices. Ale brewed with orange and coriander.

3.8 Hazy amber. Aroma is citrus, lemon cake, some spices. Taste is salty umami with sour fruit. Fresh and full bodied. Rather sour finish. Much lemon fruit, the yeast takes it in. Very nice.
3.5 Bottle. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is orange, coriander, wheat, salt. Taste is orange, spices, coriander, salt. Silky mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Good Gose!
3.5 Bottle. Milky yellow, offwhite head. Salty citric kumquat aroma. Light body, dry citric, seaweed, clementine, light spice, tide pods. Fresh and clean.
3.6 12oz can from Windsor Hy-Vee, in a Sam Smith pint glass. Smells of seawater and overripe fruit. Apples, pears, grapes, nonspecific citrus. Pours a deep amber color with a finger of fluffy white head that dissipates in a few minutes. Some spotty effervescence on the bottom of the glass. Flavor of saltwater and fresh apple/pear acidity up front with yeasty malt asserting itself mid-palate, ending with a moderate malty salty finish with some clearer indications of orange peel. Light-bodied, crisp and easy to drink. Almost like a hard cider, but not quite. Not astringent or sweet. A respectable gose! A bit light, even for that style, although that's not necessarily a bad thing. Not as satisfyingly orange-y as To Øl's similarly-styled Gose To Hollywood. I do think I liked that one a bit more. Cheers!
3.2 Bottle. 50cl. Half bottle. Pours dark golden with a small, fizzy, off-white head. Aroma has leather, salty, oranges. Medium carbonation, fine dry and fairly creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has funk, orange zest, mild spicy, malty. A bit boring gose.
2.9 Canette 12 fl. Orange trouble avec mousse quasi nulle. Nez : herbeux, menthe, cornichon/vinaigre, quelques fruits. Bouche effervescente, agressive, sûre, pomme verte, poire, abricot, poivre. Petite amertume et moyenne carbonatation. J'aime pas trop !
2.7 Hazy, orange brown beer with medium, quickly totally vanishing head. Aroma has sour apple and orange, salt and flowers. Taste has berries, sour apple and salt. Also some orange and sweet caramel available. Medium body. Salty and sour with some nice fruits. Good on its style, it's only a pity that this is not my style of beer.
3.2 can. clear yellow, small bubbles head. slightly sour, salty, slightly flowery, mild malty aroma. faint oranges. flavor is salty, slightly sourish, clementine juice, a somewhat leathery malty base to it, malty flavor is similar to malt candy.
3.6 Draft at Hops and Pie 12-18-15. Rated by SAM only.
3.8 Color naranja, turbio, con capa de espuma blanca de tres dedos de grosor y no mucha retención, cosa habitual en el estilo. Carbonatación media. Textura acuosa y ligeramente chispeante.
3.3 Cab at Muted Horn . Amber with no head. Aroma is salted caramel. Flavour is salty orange, tangy fruit, salty, fruity, dry bitter finish
3.6 Can. Cloudy golden with a white head. Fruity, sour wheat, oranges, light spicy. Tart finish. Not bad, but wouldn't get again.
3.6 33cl can. Hazy dark gold. Thin white head. Medium bitterness, light sourness, light to medium saltyness. Thin to medium body. Aroma and flavour is salt, citrus, orange, yogurt.
3.5 060118. Can st home (beergium). Pours clear coppr with a nice disappearing hesf. Aroma white winey grape, berries. Slightly acidic on the tongue. Reasonably enjoyable, not my style though. Kinda like a white wine beer. Not Bad.
3.5 Canned 355ml. -from Beergium. Orange/golden coloured, minimal white head, coriander and whiff of white wine in the nose. Yeasty, acidic fruity, light spicy and notes of white wine with mild tartish finish. Good one.
3.2 Crystal clear light gold and copper coloured body with a pure orange glow and a nice white head that is just like soda and fades incredibly quickly. Aroma of grass, perfume, hay, light funk and a lot of soured candy with a bit of citrus and grain noticeable, but this is just about the funk, sour flavours and easy-to-drink maltiness. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal funks at first that combine with the brett and other sour-based yeast that roams through this bottle, but the malt is very light, the sugars show the fruit and the funkiness with the yeast really dominating this entire beer throughout. Aftertaste shows some apricots, pure peaches, a hint of raspberries, but an overwhelming amount of dryness and funk are noticeable - no salt, no complexities similar to a gose and only a touch stronger. Overall, a pretty poor interpretation for the style and not really worth going out of your way for, especially if you enjoy the style. That said, just because a label says 'Prairie' doesn't mean it's going to be a nice beer, but probably regardless of what I say, you'll still buy this beer, pay way more than it should cost and only getting a slightly quicker/cheaper alternative. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased last year at Merchant's in Dearborn, Michigan on 10-December-2016 for US$10,59 sampled at home in Washington on Christmas Eve 2017 after just more than a year of aging.
3.4 355 ml. can. Hazy orange. Harsh nail polish profile that doesn’t mix with sweet candied orange peel, nail polish, varnish, harsh paint & rather salty. The harsh nail polish, paint profile etc. isn’t for me but Americans dig it hence the very high rating I suppose. Another Prairie that I don’t quite get.
4.5 hay, floral, grass, spruce, citrus, leaves, fruity, golden, cloudy, sparkling, frothy, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium sourness, medium body, oily feel, lively, bitter, abrupt finish, really nice gose belgium style
3.6 12 oz. can. Clear pale gold, white head. Aroma of tart fruit. Taste is tart fruit, guava, citrus, salt notes, spice, wheat. Nice.
3.7 An orange beer, a head is small and blond. Aroma has fruiness of orange, strong (milk)sourness, also other fruitness. Taste has mango, sourness, fruitness of citrus. Medium bodied. Nice beer, which fruitness is nicely combined to quite strong sourness.
4.1 This is wonderful! It's a tad heavier than traditional gose, but I'm not rating to style, so ignoring that, it has a nice lactic tartness, just a hint of coriander and a mineral-y-ness or saltiness, didn't taste the orange. Semi-dry (there's still some residual sugar in there, just enough for a little balance against the sour, hence the comment about heavier than traditional gose). Golden, fluffy white head.
3.9 Can. Pours a dark copper pour with an ephemeral beige head. Nose is tangy and tart punctuated with citrus. Taste is sour and deliciously tart with citrus notes, wheat well hidden. Finishes on the same tasting notes with a nice sour fruity ending. Nice indeed . Quaff Score 8 / 10 7-3-7-4-18
3.9 Can from Growler country Tallahassee enjoyed on Thanksgiving Day. Cloudy orange color with bubbly carbonation. Big sour aroma that waters your mouth. Starts with a big sour flavor but then Mellows and do some nice pineapple fruitiness. Very nice.
3.6 Can from Beer Republic. Hazy golden to orange color, short frothy head. Aroma is soft fruity, slight tartness and funk. Grainy wheat, apricot. Quite a lot of lactic sourness, together with fruity skin bitterness. Its much more towards a fruity sour than I expected.

3.9 Can at home. Hazy orange colour, head disappears almost instantly, looks like a soft rink afterwards. Nose is light souness, some bretty, fruity notes. Taste is medium sourness, no bitterness at all. Orange, unripened plum. Very nice and refereshing!
4.0 Sample from a can at Hy-Vee Oktoberfest. Poured cloudy amber, thin white head. Aroma was berries, fruit, sour. Taste was tart, sour, salty, berries, citric.
3.4 [Can (12oz)] Pours a hazy golden-orange with an average size qucikly diminishing frothy white head and no lacing. Slightly sour fruity aroma along with herbs and light salt. Flavour's the same, slightly sour fruit, light herbs and a hint of salt. Average bodied. Pretty good.
3.5 Can. Golden orange with flat white head. Fruity tart apricot orange aroma with maybe just a hint of coriander. Light fruity apricot sweetness with some grassiness and tart apricot orange with fairly dry very light spicy bitterness in finish. Light body with a hint of salty slickness and a little salty aftertaste. I'm not a gose fan but this is refreshing and enjoyable.
