Prairie Vanilla Noir

Prairie Vanilla Noir

Vanilla Noir is Prairie Noir aged on organic, fair trade vanilla beans, and let’s just say it takes a lot of beans! The vanilla flavor compliments the whiskey barrel aging process and adds a delicious layer to the beer.

3.7 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a minimal tan head. Roasted malt, bourbon, dark chocolate, vanilla. Pretty good, but a little heavy on the bourbon.
4.2 Bottle, 13.7%. very dark brown with tiny beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and barrel. Flavour is roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, sweet, barrel, bourbon, warming, little liquorice and a little bitter
4.8 The bouquet offers up a promise of vanilla with a caveat of malt sweetness. The pour is lovely black and caramel. The mouthfeel is smooth. The flavour delivers MOrE than the bouquet promises. Lovely balance with intense dates and raisins and brandied christmas pudding offsetting a hint of chocolate, divine vanilla and a touxmch of char oaly bitterness. The finish JUST manages to control that malt sweetness.
3.7 On tap at Pastrytown. Pours black. Vanilla, chocolate, roast, banana, more vanilla, bourbon. Medium body. Not the most complex Prairie stout but still very tasty.

3.9 37.5 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma and flavour are roasted malt, vanilla, bourbon, coffee, and chocolate - with a roasted finish.
3.9 Bottle to snifter. Looks good; an opaque dull black with darker beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells RICH and malty with big notes of dark malt, chocolate, and oak followed by some vanilla. Tastes like it smells with a mildly to moderately warming and bitter medium full-bodied mouthfeel. An enjoyable sipper.
3.8 Black with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, wood, barrel, chocolate, light coffee and roast. Fuller bodied, fairly sweet, big choco-vanilla flavors going on here. Pleasant warming sipper.
4.2 I can appreciate Prairie Ales but have other brewers of imperial stouts I like better. With that said, I do like vanilla as an adjunct for impies. The 12 oz bottle came from the Cellar in Odessa a few weeks ago. I do see a bottling date of 11/15/19. My Buffalo Bayou tulip is out for this one, a thick pour of dark amber-brown with almost no head. I take a sniff, chocolate of course, grain and berry. A taste, whoa now, this is good. Baking chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, toffee, a hint of the booze and a small bit of char. Very tasty, very good.
4.2 12oz bottle. Poured a black color with a medium sized tan head. Vanilla, roast, chocolate, bourbon barrel, dark fruits and roast.
4.1 12oz bottle. Pours a pitch black in color and capped by a thin tan layer of foam that fades away quickly and rejoins the body below. The aroma is really nice showing notes of rich, dark chocolate, toasted vanilla, marshmallow, and caramel over a dark roasted malt base with notes of bourbon and old oak. The flavor follows suit with notes of rich, dark chocolate, toasted vanilla, and caramel up front and backed up by the dark roasted malts, the bourbon oak, and a soft bitterness to balance things out. Full bodied and smooth with soft carbonation that leads to a dark chocolate, rich, creamy vanilla, and bourbon oak on the finish with some lingering warmth from the alcohol to let you know this is a big beer. Really well made and really damn good. Great vanilla flavor throughout and just the right amount of barrel to enhance the notes of the vanilla. Great beer.
3.7 Pours thick black with thin, dark tan head. Aroma is whiskey, vanilla and roast. Taste is rich brown sugar, moving strong vanilla, roast and light coffee. Finish is vanilla, roast and whiskey. Good stout.
3.7 Aromas of vanilla chocolate licorice toffee roasted barley whiskey and barrel. Taste is vanilla rubbing alcohol barrel wood whiskey oak roasted barley toffee biscotti and burnt caramel. Overall, not bad.

4.1 Bottle kindly shared by Erik. Black with brown head. Loads of vanilla, almost a bit artificial. Some caramel, big milk chocolate, a bit of oak. Sweet and yummy.
4.7 Solsletta YGG 311218. Dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, chocolate. Flavor is vanilla, caramel, chocolate, alcohol, fudge, whiskey, cocoa. Wow. A very nice beer.
4.1 Bottle, shared by Meilby 11%. A dark brown beer, unclear, with a minimal sized beige head. The aroma has lots of cocoa, with an alcohol level not too bad considering the ABV, some caramel, dark dried fruits and a touch of booze. It's full-bodied, warming, super-smooth and close to sticky on the palate, with lots of cocoa and chocolate, caramel, some vanilla, booze and a touch of roasted malts. Everlasting cocoa finish. A wonderful beer indeed, although a tad too warming. 181231
4.2 Bottle 355ml @ yngwie, New Year tasting 18/19 Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, cocoa, chocolate, toffee, vanilla, molasses and alcohol. Taste is heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, vanilla, toffee, cocoa and molasses finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft
4.2 Bottle at tasting. Black pour. Aroma of chocolate, rich whiskey, caramel fudge, ripe fruit and vanilla. Taste of buttery caramel, vanilla, red fruit, oak, earthy vanilla, chocolate, boozy cherry and a long boozy fruity finish. Very good.
4.0 355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.5%. Pitch black colour, moderate to small tan head. Strong aroma of vanilla, roast malts and molasses, a hint of whiskey. Sweet and rich flavour, roast malts, molasses and vanilla galore, also notes of oak and whiskey.
4.0 Shared bottle at Cardinal. Pours black with no head.Aroma of dark malts, treacle and vanilla. Taste is moderate sweet dark malts, heavy fresh vanilla with notes of whiskey, nice enough .
4.2 Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours black with light beige head. Aroma of vanilla, dark chocolate, ethanol. Tastes sweet with little bitterness. Medium to full bodied, sweet finish.
4.2 A 12 fl. oz. bottle with a Julian bottled on date of 32117, meaning that it was bottled on 17th November 2017. Poured into a snifter glass. It was black in colour with a thin mocha brown head that dissipated quickly to a ring around the glass while leaving some sparse lacing. Aromas of chocolate fudge, vanilla, marshmallow, whisky, brown sugar and caramel. Tastes of chocolate, whisky, quite boozy (but not in a bad way), vanilla, marshmallow and caramel. Smooth, full bodied with low carbonation. Overall, a nice enjoyable sipper. Vanilla while there, seemed lighter than expected given the name, but not a big problem.
4.1 355 ml bottle. Pours black color with a medium sized beige head, minor gushing which I was not expecting. Aroma is roasted malty, vanilla notes, coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate and subtle bourbon notes. Flavor is bitter with roasted malts, creamy chocolaty sweetness follows, some cocoa and vanilla notes, faint coffee too. Subtle alcohol warmth at the end but nothing disturbing. A complex slow sipper, lovely. 5427

3.8 Vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, coffee and wood in nose. Pours pitch black weak tan head. Taste is sweet with vanilla, bourbon, coffee, chocolate, caramel and dark fruits. Medium bitter finish, bit boozy, soft carbonation, average to full body. Overall very good, but not my favorite Prairie stout.
