3.4 Bottle @ himmeriget copenhagen. Pours a dark colour beer with a small head. Dark berries, vanilla with some roasted malts and wood. Dry finish
4.1 Why did someone with the funds not buy me more of this? Given the chance to try them side by side would likely cause a change of opinion, but this reminded me of sharing a Kuhnhenn Raspberry Icebock with Walt quite a while ago. Chocolate and raspberries, like a great dessert concoction made by a master chef. Maybe I even enjoyed this.
4.1 A resilient, tall, frothy-tight, dark khaki head offers a wall of lace with each sip, crowning a black body Medium intensity with solid complexity and depth, smooth transitions... charred oak ties into chocolate and coffee, a layer of subtle maple, dark and red berry layers offer mild sweetness and subtle fruity tartness with a creamy overlay balanced by tannic bitterness rounding out on a clean, mildly creamy, silky medium body with lightly tingling carbonation leading to residuals of the previously mentioned components with medium duration 12 oz bottle served at 55° into Orrefors Difference Porter snifter
4.0 Bottle 35,5cl / Botella 35,5cl. @ The Beer Garden Store, Madrid, España. A: Black / Negro. T/S: Roasted malt, chocolate, raisins, sweet, slightly sweet / Malta tostada, chocolate, uvas pasas, ligeramente dulce.
3.7 355cl bottle at home, this one sees distro. to europe somehow. poured a darker black colour with a medium seized beige head. nose of clear roasted malts, and a strong notes of red fruits, oak, and red wine. red grapes, and some bitter grape skin. flavor adds some sweeter chocolate aswell, as some burned caramel. the wine barrel adds maybe just a slight tart note to it. not a huge fan of wine barrel stouts.
3.4 Dunkelbraun mit rotstich, süßlich leicht fruchtig in der Nase, extrem fruchtig frisch im antrunk, dadurch sehr leicht. Mild im Abgang, hätte fast noch etwas lagern können.
3.9 Bottle Pours black with vigorous carbonation with a big frothy tan head with some lacing. Nose is char, roast, vineous wine barrel, woody, and red wine. Flavors exhibit the char wood and red wine character very well. Lots of char and woody notes up front with lingering char and red wine on the finish. body is a bit fizzy for this high abv.. very nice finish of char roast and red wine. tasty
4.3 Prairie Wine Barrel Noir) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 10% Black coloured body, two full fingers of thick, brown head, with excellent retention. Sweet aroma, with candy sugar, cherries, red sweet wine, berries, light chocolate, strawberries. Nice taste too, sweet at first, then a touch of sourness and ends up nicely bitter, great. Chocolate, roasted malts, red wine, berries, cherries, jelly, grapes, quite complex. Full body, good carbonation, slightly tart on the palate. Great beer!
4.3 Pours thick dark black with a bright cinnamon hued caramel head. The aroma brings delicious roasted cacao. Flavor brings the tart berry so sweet and delicious from the wine barrel as described which overshadow, but in a good way, the roasted chocolate notes. One of the best beers I have had from this brewery hands down!
4.1 Bottle 12 oz at JefVerstraete place Gent Belgium.03.08.2015.Thank you Jef for sharing this bottles.Pour it dark color with medium dark foam. Aroma of ted wine, wodden barrel also present.Taste of sour, red dark fruits, some saltinesd on the back, so many spices, cinnamon, interesting and strange.Good balanced and so complexed.
3.8 Bottle. fresh roast, strawberries, road, wooden notes, blueberries. Maripan cakes. Very unusual and hard to shoehorn. Chewy, nice.
4.1 Black color with tan head. Aroma is fresh, chocolate, cherries, roasted malts, dry dustyness. Taste is winey, chocolate, coffee, some tannines. The most balanced and delicate Prairie I?ve had so far. Good stuff, with a very silky mouthfeel.
4.2 (bottle, many thanks to sinh4!) pitch black colour with a dark brown head. aroma of toasted malts and dark chocolate, with a touch of brown sugar, cherries, some roasted beef and soy sauce. flavour is brown sugar, soy sauce and cherry syrup, with lots of strawberries, toasted malts and some earth in the finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with average carbonation.
3.3 Black pour, foamy brown head. Aroma of chocolate, very sweet cherry, and booze. Flavor is chocolate, cherry, grapes, red wine and cocoa. Interesting but way too sweet.
4.0 12oz bottle shared by Ryan. Big steady beige head. Chunky brown black body. Red wine and roast malt give it a red berry taste. An excellent Imperial Stout. The barrel really works well here, great final product.
4.0 Pours black with a dense, light brown head. The nose is very interesting. Its like a bourgogne on steroids; so big raspberry, a little strawberry jam and lots of licorice. Thinking about it it’s really more of a new world pinot than a french one. Big siruppy licoricy pinot. Liking the nose.. The taste is more mineral and slightly more bitter. As it warms it gets sweeter, richer. A slight oxidized sensation that kind of suits the beer. Like it lots.
4.0 Thanks to mr. Hoprider for swinging this my Way. Aroma is pretty subdued on the nose, but sure is a bang on the palate. Red Wine, red grapes, dark berries, slight coffee, chocolate, oatmeal. All that goodness you want from a stout. Tastet is slightly sweet up front, with a heavy dose of roasted bitterness from the middle and out. Medium bodied, with pricking and semi flat carbonation. I like this, but Think the Apple brandy treatment was better.
4.1 Bottle from cloaked-thanks! Dark brown with some reddish edges. Nose is tart black and red berries, some dark chocolate, light coffee. High carbonation. Dark chocolate cherries, bakers cocoa, slightly dusty, some blackberry. Interesting and complex beer and probably my favorite barrel treatment of this beer that I’ve had.
3.7 Bottle from Dranken Geers. Dark brown/black colour, beige foam. Medium carbonation. Sweet nose of caramel. Bitter roastiness of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Sweet nose of fruit candy, wine and potpourri. Strange combination. Not bad, but ok!
3.7 (750ml bottle) Pours a black body with a small tan head. Aroma of raisins, plum, vinous, oak, and cherry. Flavor of coffee, raisins, vinous, raspberry, plum, toffee, and oak.
3.4 Bottle at bishops arms örebro. Pours black with a tan head. Tastes like a blend of a stout and a barley wine. Rosted malt, licorice and red wine.
3.3 Bottle. Extremely vinous beer with notes of milk chocolate coffee. Smooth. Well made but not exactly my thing.
3.4 Bottle. Deep black red, off pink Caramel, hints of coffee and wine Deep taste of coffee, wine sourness, alcohol taste, sweetness Strange, astringent,
1.2 I am not a fan of this at all. I am not a huge wine drinker and this is just a horrible stout.
4.1 Drake’s 10k. Black, good head. Aroma of pepsin, hoppy notes, coffee and chocolate. Flavor matches, with some dark fruit floating about. Some tannic bite, presumably from the roasted malts and wood treatment. Really nice.
4.1 Nougat, raspberry nose. Cloudy dark brown, thin tan head, good lacing. Smoke, wood, currant, raisin, smoke. Full body, easy carbonation. Good complexity.
3.9 Bottle @ tasting. Very dark with cocoa head. Smells dark fruity and chocolaty. Tastes like dark chocolate raspberry. Not cloying.
3.6 Black with tan head. Red wine, roasted malt, chocolate, red berries and oak. Acidic, roasted, red berries, dry and spicy finish. Overall: well made. A little too acidic for my taste.
3.8 12 oz. bottle shared by phaleslu. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small tan head. The aroma was roasted malts, chocolate, vinous, dark fruits, oak. The flavor had roasted malts, chocolate, wine barrel influenced, dark fruits, oak, lightly tart, dry finish, good, not great.
3.8 12 oz. bottle - can’t remember the source, but it’s been in the back of my beer fridge for several months. Anyway, it pours an opaque midnight brown with a small lasting tan head that also leaves a thick ring and some spots of lace. Looks great. The wine barrels give it a significant amount of dark fruits, along with chocolate, oak, vanilla, earth, tobacco, and a little roast. Medium-bodied, with a smooth, sweet mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Surprisingly fruity. Yet another Prairie stout that’s good but overrated.
