Propeller IPA

Propeller IPA

Not for the faint of heart. True India Pale Ales had to withstand long sea voyages before slaking the thirst of cranky British troops stationed in the heat of India. Bracing, bitter, higher in alcohol. Trademark Propeller quality. A full-bodied ale for full-throttle beer lovers. Drink fresh.

3.5 473 ml can. Hazy orange colour, creamy white head. Sweetish malty aroma with citrus fruits and notes of resin. The flavour is malty, with sweetish bready notes, grapefruit, and a moderately bitter finish. Quite nice.
3.0 can. pours hazy medium dark golden with a small off-white cap offering some retention and lacing. citrusy lemongrass, harsh pine, toasted caramel maltiness, some peaches, resin, woodsy piney alcohol, clean yeast though. moderate carbonation, light body - oily; assertive but not unbalanced spicy-citrusy-piney finish. tamed shy hops, oldschool as well. nah.
3.7 A well laced white head on a golden body. The nose features honey, citrus and sweet malt. A really solid middle of the road IPA. The hops are engaging without being overpowering, featuring some lemon, melon and other tropical elements. Chewy biscuit malt and that touch of honey round it out.
3.7 Pours a clear honey colour, with a creamy head and good lacing. Aroma has notes of citrus, pine, and biscuits. Tasting notes include citrus, resin, more biscuits, and a nice bitter finish. Very well made IPA!
3.4 Pours hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma is citrus fruits with grassy notes. Good citrus fruit flavour with decent bitter sweet balance. Really enjoyable.
4.0 Aroma is orange candy. Orange and pine on the tongue with bready malts and more sweetness. Bitter sweetness. And yet it is such a happy beer.
3.8 Lightly hazed orange pour with creamy white head. Aroma is large citrus/resiny hops. Almost orange zest. Flavor is large citrus/resiny hops and sweet bready malt. Medium body with good carbonation. nicely balanced
3.0 650ml bottle from NSLC, Baddeck NS. A slightly hazy pale amber pour with a ring of white head; woody aroma with obvious alcohol; resinous piney taste; sharply bitter with grapefruit and alcohol to finish. Very unbalanced.
3.3 Sampled from the tap at Maxwell’s Plum. Pours a clear gold with a white head throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has sweet citrus and grass with a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has a nice sweet citrus with light grain and a bit of hay backing.
3.3 Draft in Halifax. Hazy orange body, huge off-white head. The aroma is misty with berries, the taste full and grapefruit with a long smooth finish.
3.1 On tap in Lunenburg. Appearance: clear, amber with excellent clarity and a very fine, durable head. Lots of lacing. Hoppy aroma with sweet malts. Flavor: Hops dominate; bready malt base. Earthy and faintly herbal. Medium bitterness for style. Mouthfeel: near medium carbonation and body. Overall: OK; not my favorite hop mix.
3.5 Tap @ Henry’s House & 650ml bottle from Bishops Cellar. Muddy light brown, good head. Like hop aroma. Resin boiled sweet flavour. Bitter hoppy aftertaste. Reasonable IPA. Bottle better than tap.
3.5 Lots of lacing. Golden and hazy. Lightheaded. Growler. Bitter a lottlemalt and good hops.
3.7 Golden colour and strong citrus and hop aroma. Light head, not to foamy. Stupendous beer on a hot day when in an ice chilled glass.
3.4 Poured from bottle. Aroma of citrus. Pours a clear golden colour, with white head. Taste is medium bitter. Medium body, oily texture, bitter finish. Nice IPA.
3.0 Poured from a bottle. Clear golden color, medium white head. Fruit aroma. Medium body with a fruity bitter flavor and a medium finish.
3.3 Aroma of sour fruit and malt. Pours a caramel color with short lasting white well laced head. Taste of fruit and malt with a dry medium bodied feel and a chalky slight bitter finish.
3.3 This is a decent hoppy beer. It pours clear golden and clear with a big foamy head. Nose is citrus zest, mango and some woody pine. Some sweetness brings out the pine in a pleasant way. This is very bitter which does a great deal to bake the full bodied sugary sweetness. It finishes with a bit of tropical fruit and piney, resinous bitterness. Not bad.
2.4 Bottle poured a clear gold with a lasting off white head. Aromas of bread, butterscotch, vanilla and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of bread, vanilla, light butterscotch and light citrus with a smooth finish.
3.6 cask. Light golden with slight cloudiness. Very fresh aromas and flavours of pine hops and biscuit malts. Nice IPA.
3.5 341ml bottle 6.5% ABV Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada) September 26, 2014 The beer pours a translucent metallic gold with a slow forming snow white head. The aroma is citrus, caramel, and earthy notes. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is light grapefruit, some caramel, some grains, and a decent bitter finish. Quite good.
3.4 On tap - dark gold with a medium head and lacing. Nice dry hop profile. Decent brewski!
3.8 Really digging this IPA and it’s big pine and resin blast, both in the nose and the tongue-o. It’s a curiously light orangey-yellow with a thin ivory noggin. I really enjoy the bold flavour of this ol’ gal and could happily have a light sesh on her. A nice chewy and lightly greasy mouthfeel make this a wonderful chomper of an IPA.
3.3 This was a pretty good IPA. Fresh tasting hops, biscuity malt profile, and a nice balance between the two.
3.4 Bottle from the brewery shop. Pours a crystal clear deep straw color with a huge tightly bubbled white head that leaves a huge a mount of stickies on the glass. Carmel, earth, and pine in the aroma. The flavor is caramel and earth again with a touch of resin and a hint of alcohol. Sweet maltiness with just a touch of hop flavor and bitterness. Medium body and a moderate level of carbonation. English style maybe, but really tame for an ipa, or too much crystal malt to let the hops shine through. I could drink this there’s nothing wrong with it but it has a 90’s old school feel to it.
3.8 (Growler) Pours a slightly hazy medium copper with a short-lived two finger head diminishing to a thin skim and heavy lacing. Nose is floral and herbal hops, biscuity malt, tropical fruit. Taste is sweet malt and mild floral hops. Medium bodied and chewy, with moderate carbonation and a bitter finish. This is a decently balanced brew, with good hop presence and a solid malt backbone. Nothing stellar, but a solid brew.
3.5 Couleur jaune brillant avec une mousse moyenne blanche. L?arôme d?agrumes. Très fraîche en bouche, avec un goût d’agrumes et un peu de malt.
3.0 Not a bad IPA, but I will usually go for Garrison, when I’m in Halifax. She is pretty juicy in the citrus and resin department. More hops than malt, so it isn’t as balanced as i would like, but still really good. Has a strong face puckering bitter after taste, which I enjoy sometimes.
3.2 Had in bottle before, but this time a pint at hart & thistle. Clear light amber. Light caramel and citrus nose. Similar in taste. Good, but not as good as I remember.
4.6 My all time favorite 5 o´clock beer! Good drinkability, nice hop aroma. Well balanced!
