Pyramid Outburst Imperial IPA

Pyramid Outburst Imperial IPA

Ignition Series #2

Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, we’ve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

3.5 Dark copper color. Moderate, but stable light beige head. Floral to citric fresh hops aromas. Hints of toasted malt in the background. Quite citric and malty. Fairly sweet with a mild syrup flavor. Finish is a bit biting and quite long. The longer I wait between quaffs, the more I hesitate. 12/10
4.1 Sweet caramel, cotton candy, pineapples and pine in aroma. Ruby copper with small head. Medium bitterness with notes of tropical fruit in taste. Pretty decent ipa, something different.
3.3 This was a very strong beer it had a nice upfront kick that really was strong but didn't go all the way through the beer to take it over.
3.5 Bottle. Pours a hazy deep amber. Minimal head. Aromas of sweet malt, a touch of corn, and hops. Taste is of buttered biscuits, citrus hops, a touch of pine, and a nicely smooth finish. ABV is noticeable only very late in the palate. A nice beer. Not great, but so few are.
3.9 On tap. Pours a hazy amber with a beige head and good lacing. Smells fruity pineapple and earth. Tastes fruity and tangy, not your standard NW DIPA. Nice level of bitterness and a good fruity aftertaste that lasts the right about of time.
2.2 22-ounce bottle in a pint glass. Fairly typical high-alcohol IPA, rather bitter.
3.5 Yum. Not my fave IIPA, but gets the job done. ABV not noticeable, which is great if you want go havesies with your best friend.
3.3 Hazy amber, small beige head. Piney and citrusy aroma with caramel as well. Lots of pine, resin, grapefruit, toasty malt, grassiness from the dry hopping. Medium to full bodied and oily. Not bad, but the heavy use of chinook for bittering gives it excessive harshness.
3.6 Bottle from Portland supermarket. Dark amber body with medium head. Nose is floral, hoppy, toasty. Taste of hops and fruits and apples. Thin texture.
3.6 From tap to wine glass Appearance: Orange in color, a bit hazy Aroma: Slight smell hops, not too fragrant Taste: Bitter with sweet aftertaste Mouth feel: A bit fizzy Overall: Very good beer, but really something to look for Drank: January 27,2016
3.6 bottle. Poured hazy deep amber with a thinner off-white head. Citrusy hop aroma. Medium body, a bit oily with a tart-dry finish. Sweet caramel malt flavour, notes of orange peel, piney hops with some pepper. Not overly dry as expected from the deScription but nice, alcohol well hidden.
2.8 Another citrusy, grapefruit, bitter hoppy IPA. Not so much "Imperial" in it.
3.6 The one thing about this beer is that it doesn't taste like the ABV is what is. Otherwise it's a nice refreshing beer for the price.
3.4 From a bomber. Aroma is not overwhelming, some malt. Taste is a dry hop with residuals on the palate. A decent beer at a cheaper price point.
2.4 355 ml bottle bought at The Q-Club in SoHo, Central. Looks: Clear amber red colour; less than one-quarter finger head and residual soapy white foam which fades in 10 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with very slight carbonation. Aroma: Quite fragrant and slightly oozy Ale malt, with cat piss, very light pineapple, harsh alcohol, light floral, molasses, light pine, resin, light earth, yeast, lemon and soaked grass. Taste: Mid to strong sweet Ale malt, with grapefruit, strong lemon, strong molasses, alcohol, strong pine, very strong resins, biscuits, very strong bitter hops and strong grass. Body: Close to full body. Dry, very oozy and thick palate. Mouth Feel: Solid strong roasty Ale maltyness in oily background. Sweetness is very strong, cloying actually. Grapefruit is rather low-fi but lemon is strong. Resin ooze and pine dominate. Booze is apparant but not as rubbing as the aroma suggests. Hmmm… Hoppiness: Very strong Simcoe and Chinook, as in strong cat piss, light pineapple, light floral, pine, strong resin and earth in nose; Grapefruit, strong lemon, pine, very strong ooze and grass in taste. The 80-IBU is in-your-face but doesn’t mix well with the strong malt sweetness. Lasting strong astringent strong sweet and bitter finish. After Taste: Dry, bitter and strong sweet to mouth. Comments: The smelly Simcoe cat piss and bad booze aroma got this one off with a bad start, the hops fruityness are quite low-fi and unimpressive, and the bitterness is standoff-ish when the strong malt sugar comes knocking. Its relatively moderate ooziness is the only positive. Unbalanced. Avoid!
2.8 Bottle, at a wedding. Ok aroma. Sweet. Caramel, orange stale bread. Clean reddish orange color , ok head and lace. Bitter sweet flavor. Medium body smooth mouthfeel, bitter sweet finish. It’s ok, flavor better than aroma. Kind of weak overall.
3.0 Bottle. Amber pour, with an off white head. Caramel malt, stale bread, very bitter, pine, notes of sawdust, and pretty sweet.
3.5 From QC. Drank with Matt after Reza's boat. Dark amber/reddish brown. Medium off-white fizzy creamy head. Lathery watery legs. Smells of apricot, some banana peach apple, musty woody hop, light herbal grassiness. Taste is resinous, moderate to heavy bitterness, slight apple-y malt but overall a bit thin. Body is medium, bitter, lightly grass, medium carbonation. Decent but not exceptional - nose is quite malty and taste is mostly resin.
3.5 Bottle from QClub at home. Copper amber pour with dense smallish head. Aroma is pine resin hops and quite a bit of bready malt. Taste follows - lots of malty sweetness but more pine resin bitterness. Sweet bitter finish. Not my favorite style of DIPA, but not bad.
3.5 Bottle (12oz $1.50): Golden with 1 finger white head. This is a very typeical imperial IPA. Some hop aroma. Taste has sweetness and pine bitterness. Somewhat syrupy. The product description is actually pretty close.
3.2 Pours copper with white head. Aroma is fruity and malty. Flavor is medium bitter, light to medium sweet and fruity.
2.0 Very strong bitter flavor. Good hop flavor coming through. Amber/orange in color. Overall okay.
3.6 Nose is fantastic....taste is really nice...sweet....i like this one.....(#484)......
4.0 From the 6-pack of bottles, nice orange with a white collar. Good hop flavor with a little fruit, good bitter happy ending. Nice 8.5% content, not really noticeable except in the warm buzz. Was on sale for $5.99 which makes it a total score.
3.6 22 oz bottle. From a gas station in Bend, OR. Clear deep amber colour with a small frothy off-white head. Resiny hops, sweetness and some caramel malt in a fresh aroma. The flavour is resiny and fruity hops, bread, cookies, sweet malt and some tea like bitterness. Balanced.
3.6 16oz draft at the brewery. Pours red brown witha sticky white head. Carmel, sticky hops make up the aroma. Dry on the palate.
3.5 Draft pour, and bottle poured probably a couple dozen times over the years. Can’t believe I haven’t rated this. Pours a copper color with a foamy head. Hoppy grainy aroma. Flavor is bitter, with some sweet hops mixed in. Finishes on another more bitter note. Always been a bit of a go to imperial for me. What can I say. It’s cheap, strong, and tasty. I’ll keep getting this.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a clear golden orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a decent amount of resin and grass with an earthy grain backbone. Flavor has notes of resin and pine with and a touch of earthy grain.
3.7 Bottle. Deep red-orange, off white head. Sweet pine, grapefruit, lightly caramelized malts, resinous and very bitter. Nice enough.
3.5 big malty sweet lots of grapefruit. Slightly sweet. Ok bitterness. Standard.
