3.3 Bottle, 8%. Hazy amber with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, little toasted, grainy, grass and earthy. Flavour is malt, caramel, toasted, grass, medium sweet, earthy and medium bitter.
3.5 Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Hazy orange with an small off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and moderate hoppy - fruity. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 160115
3.4 Amber color with a short off white head. Nose of grapefruit rind and alcohol. There is a lot of caramel sweetness in this balance with a pretty raw hop juice grapefruit/pine flavor. The alcohol is omnipresent and gets a little aggressive as it warms.
3.5 Pours a hazy golden to amber color with little head. The aroma is grapefruit and pine, with malt and caramel. The flavor is much yhe same, masks the hogh alcohol very well. Palate is sweet with a bitter finish. And warming on the way down. Very well balanced beer.
4.6 Bought a six pack in Spartansberg, SC. Liked the description. Going to stick my neck out a bit, but I think its one of the better Double Pale Ales I’ve had over the years. Love the light amber & hazy color. Of course it has a thin, foamy head due to the 8% gravity. Has sweet aroma of caramel & pine (as they say, "a swift flavor combo of bitter hops & sweets malts) with a hoppy bitterness upfront and a sweeter finish of burnt sugars with caramel in between. Enjoy!
2.9 Bottle. Grass notes and does have a bite. Can’t really figure if I like this one or not, but see it being comparable to Sweetwater 420.
3.0 Bottle. Caramel malt and weedy grass/alcohol aroma. Hazy golden yelllow with moderate head. Sweet caramel malt and moderately bitter herbal grass flavor. Alcoholic finish. Rough.
2.8 Poured as a taster - will re-rate once/if I have a full serving. Pours a hazy amber color. Aroma - mostly malty with some hop notes underneath; caramel really obvious. Taste - alcohol is there and a bit peppery, some citrus/more resin notes from the hops, and malty sweetness underneath. This was okay, but wasn’t something I’d probably go out and buy again.
3.6 On tap Taco Mac Cumming. Hazy light ambernwoth a thin foamy ivory head. Aroma of sweet sugars, caramel, and pine. Huge hop bitterness upfront. Boozy on the finish. Definitely warms you up. Nice sweet malt, burnt sugars, and caramel in between.
3.7 Imported by bob from South Carolina. Nice. Hazy cider color. Rich toffee and tea nose. Syrupy. Sweet palate. Hefty caramel. Just enough hops and booze to balance. Very nice.
3.4 on tap poured into a snifter. amber hue, hazy, silky off white head. nose of caramel and toffee, mixed with some booze. taste as some sweetness with aforementioned notes. faint bitterness, mild pine finish. full body with some booze burn.
2.7 Hazy filmy amber. Aroma of pine, booze, and caramel. Taste is big sweetness, toffee and caramel. Boozy. Strangely Spritzy for being a big heavy beer. Meh.
3.0 Pours a cloudy brownish yellow, some lacing. Bready malts, hints of citrus on the nose. Malts, brown sugar on the tip of the tongue; big bitter flavors at the back. Nothing special.
2.2 Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a medium sized khaki colored head that has solid retention. The aroma has some pine, floral notes, a bit of a caramel malt, some candied sugar, a mix of a lot of things. The taste is really sweet, brown sugar, really off aftertaste. Sorry, bad.
3.2 Bottle at home. Pours lightly hazy dark orange with a medium, rocky and frothy off-white head, medium to long retention with good lacing. Aroma is peppery alcohol, light honey and caramel malt notes, toast and nutty malt with pear esters, earthy and pine hops. Flavor is medium hops, moderate bitterness accentuated by the peppery and spicy alcohol, background sweet malt, light fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation with a light alcohol warmth.
3.4 Aroma - malt has a caramel quality about it; the hops are resiny and make you feel the beer will be much more oily than it is. Appearance - body is burnt orange; liquid is clean; the head is about 1/8" and white, and eventually results in a layer of bubbly film; there is also some slight dappled lacing Taste - is a combination of medium to heavy sweetness and a light bitterness. Palate - body is medium almost full; texture is a slightly oily and somewhat chewy; carbonation is average almost soft; the finish is bitter and full of alcohol the vapors hang around in the mouth and warm the body. This is definitely an assertive beer
2.4 Pours amber with a very thin film of head. Aroma is strong and estery tart fruits with sweet caramel malt. The flavor is much more disappointing than the aroma. The good tart fruit flavors are barely there and there is also a sort rubbery and skunky flavor as well. Not very good but at least it has the alcohol content I was looking for.
2.8 Poured a clear cola color with an almost nonexistent white head. Aroma is faint caramel, cereal, and grass. Taste is floral, caramel, and a bitter yet slightly boozey finish.
3.2 7/9/2010. From bottle. Light amber color with a white head. Fruity aromas with malt and floral notes. Caramel flavors with alcohol burn on the finish.
2.7 medium dark orange clear with some head. Aroma of toasty vinegary. tastes like a grapey wall of malt. light carb good soft palate. it’s like a dressed up delicate malt liquor.
4.1 R.J. Rocker Bell Ringer has a thin, cream-colored head (which thickens up, once the bottom contents are swished and poured), a hazy, brilliant orange-mellon appearance, with gray chunks at the bottom and thick lacing left behind. The aroma is very strong, sweet, pungent, and of overly-ripe (rotted) light fruits. Tastes is also rich, with turned fruit, medium malt, sugar, fairly strong bitterness, and even a brandy wine aspect. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and R.J. Rocker Bell Ringer finishes cloying, sweet, semi-dry, and even harsh. This is a most excellent and challenging strong ale. RJT
2.9 Bubbly, orange-amber with a minimal off-white head. Strong, sweet fermented fruit aroma....tangerine, pear... Taste is caramel, spice with a strong boozy bitter..... Gets a better balance as it warms, but still finishes a little rough.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter finish with hints of caramel.
2.9 Growler pour. Comes off extremely malty, very bright artificial fruitiness, and showed big alcohol for 8.5%. This American Strong ale comes off really balanced. Nothing really played well together and just all over. Not what I was hoping for with little hop presence.
3.1 Bottle. Pours unclear orange with a white frothy head. Aroma is orange, toffee, straw, light bread, grapefruit, citrus and pepper. Taste is light sweet, light+ bitter and light sour. Body is medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft. Finishes sweet.
3.2 Bottle at Papsø. Hazy orange coloured with a medium sized off-white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel and candies. Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel, candies, grass and hops. Hoppy finish.
3.1 12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is herbal, grassy and toasted malty. Bitter and light herbal to grassy. Dry and herbal finish.
3.0 Bottle. Unclear orange with a white head. Toffee, caramel, light hop profile but some light tropical fruit notes comes through. Alcohol astingency. Medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation. Medium sweet and bitter; pronounced bitterness towards the finish.
3.4 Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours a cloudy golden with a white head. Biscuity malts in the nose with a little citrusy hops. Rich, malty body, loads of sweet biscuits with a decent late hop punch. 120713
3.0 Bottle; poured a dull amber color. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, generic sweetness, and vanilla. Flavor was strong, but rather boring. Hopping was in the background and only emerged briefly. Bready and sweet.
